Against my better judgment I took my 2 year old in there because he was so excited by all the Christmas toys in the window.
I told him about a million times before we went in not to touch anything (everyone in Victoria knows this store's reputation).
We went in, and were promptly kicked out. My son was holding my hand, wasn't touching anything and was being very well behaved.
He sobbed as we were kicked out because he just wanted to see Santa. I can't believe anyone wastes their money in this store.
My daughter was doing a project on Christmas in Germany. I looked up on the net for a place to find an appropriate ornament. According to their ad, they say a five star customer servivce. BITE ME!!! I first ask someone where to find such an item. I received a brass, "upstairs" I get up there and am still confused. I ask someone else and again in a brass manner, "over there" Now if they don't want you to touch anything, then assist the customer. I find the German trinkets and ask my daughter, 10 years old, to read the prices. My eyesight is poor. I found a feather angel for 9.99 and tell my daughter that would be fine. All of a sudden there is a woman taking it from her hands very abruptly and tells her not to touch. "Excuse me," I said. "I am her mother and." That is when she cut me off by telling me not to touch anything. That these were very delicate. Had she let me finish, I was about to say, I was going to buy it. Well because of her arrogance and extreme rudness, they lost my buisness. Meanwhile my husband is downstairs looking for a snow globe for my daughter. Which we have been looking for the perfect one. He said he found one and I told him these people are rude and I wanted to leave. But he wanted to get it. Fine, I said. I will wait for you out front so as my daughter did not see him buy it. Just as I am at the door a very rude man grabs my hand saying my daughter can't take the stuffy. Which is an 8 year old Toys R Us doggy. Any one can see not something from that store. It even had her name on it. I said it was hers. He ripped it out of her hands while still holding my hand. Looked at it then shoved it in her chest pushing her back into the wall and said don't bring it in the store. A simple excuse me may I see that. And I would have shown him. My daughter was frightened. There was no excuse for his behaviour at all. These people are an embarrasment to Victoria and only give the city a very bad name. Victoria advertises a world of charm and courtesy, but not in this store. All you will get is a bunch of stressed out anal, abusive A holes! How can this be allowed to go on. They have tramautized my daughter. DON"T GO IN THIS STORE!!!! Needless to say we did not buy the snow globe neither.
I'm going to make this brief. I The reason why I visited this store was because I love Christmas and was intrigued by a all Christmas store in October. I went in and looked around and noticed a ridiculous sign which basically said that if you are not going to buy anything or are here to entertain you family or friends you are better off just to turn around and leave. It took me 2 minutes just to read the sign. What kind of Christmas store is that? It was down right insulting and arrogant. I understand that due to the nature of the store and the fact that some items are expensive there are cetain precautions that need to be met but this can be done with a "break it you bought it " sign. We really did not need a slap in the face. I really hope the owners of the store read this because instead of writing that huge sign you could have saved yourself the trouble and wrote a Go %@&* yourself sign instead!! I will never come to this store again.. instead I will buy my christmas stuff anywhere else.
Thank you for the warning. I have also seen comments like these on other websites. I was going to make the two hour trip just to see this store, but now wouldn't set foot in it for love or money. The owner sounds like the rudest, Scroogiest person around. I wish the Better Business Bureau would take notice, or Tourism Victoria.
The last time I was in Victoria, I went to The Spirit of Christmas which was ten years ago. Unfortunately, this store had closed. Unfortunately, I found this store instead. I went in and saw the various non-customer friendly signs, but reluctantly continued looking for something very specific. I came to the downstairs entry, and there was a sign stating one could not go down to look unattended. I had asked two woman at the front desk, and they said that maybe they could get someone to help me out. Then they went back to doing other things (non-customer related from what I could tell), and didn't help any further. I suspect the man on the phone moving frantically upstairs was the owner. Anyway, after reading the other reviews, sounds though it is their mode of operation. Not sure how they stay in business. If they don't like people, retail is not the place to be - time to throw in the towel...
My friends and I were so looking forward to visiting this Christmas shop on our day trip into Victoria. What a complete waste of time. I have never in my life come across people as rude as these shopkeepers were. There were signs all over the store stating things such as "DO NOT TOUCH UNLESS YOU ARE BUYING" or "IF YOU ARE HERE JUST TO LOOK THEN WE ARE NOT THE SHOP FOR YOU" Then they proceeded to make my friend show them every picture on her memory card on her camera. After showing a few pictures, she decided that she just wanted to leave the shop, and was then told that she was going to have to talk to the manager. She refused and we left, along with several other people in the shop who witnessed this whole ridiculous event. DO NOT SHOP HERE!
Made an $85.00 mini light purchase for my wife, but color was wrong, and she wanted more than I picked up. Called the store and the man (owner) was VERY rude, but eventually said they had the items I wanted in stock. I returned to the store 9 days later and was told he would not take the items back !!! He then lied and said the other items had been brought in special and they had to send them back because it took so long for me to return. I called him on the lie, but he just refused to aknowledge it and walked away from me !! I now have $85.00 worth of merchandise we can't use and nowhere to return it. PLEASE, PLEASE take heed and learn from my misfortune. This is UNBELIEVABLE !! I have never been treated like this in my 52 years on this earth !!! I've also never felt the need to write a review, but this deserves a scathing one. I will never cross their doorway ever again, nor should you !!! BEWARE I say...BEWARE !!!!!
No Browsing!
$5 if you want to take a photo!
No returns!
Just 3 of the many, many, many signs in this store.
Disgusting, degrading service.
This store is comically disrespecful to its customers.
By all means go in just to experience the complete and utter lack of civility.
You can't make this stuff up.
Ask the owner a question, any question and prepare for the weirdness to begin.
The store appears to be brimming with "old world charm" but it is not! The boxed ornament I purchased was broken when I opened it so I took it back. The worker behind the counter referred me to a man who said I must have broken it because he doesn't sell defective merchandise. He refused to replace it without charging me. His female workers' eyes were noticeably downcast. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!!!
I took my daughter who is 5 into the store. She was playing with the webkinz that were located at the front of the store. When we went to make a purchase the man at the store who appears to be the owner asked where the toy was. I explained that we put it back and he went on to say that because she was playing with it we should buy it. Out of surprise I went to get it and purchased it even though we really don't have a big budget this year. I said that I couldn't afford it and then he went on to say that there are probably a lot of things in the store I couldn't afford! I asked if there is a policy, that whatever you touch you have to buy? He said that it was because she was playing with it for a while. I can see his point slightly (because of the spread of germs) but I definitely couldn't see a sign like this anywhere. It was clear to me that this man does not like children and has no heart. After moving to Victoria for my husband's work I have been unemployed for almost six months and can't be spending a lot of money. To insist that I purchase something in the store that I didn't want and didn't break is really lacking in Christmas spirit especially at Christmas during these hard economic times.
The owner was so rude and made me so angry it almost ruined a perfectly lovely day in Victoria. The chamber of commerce should run this man out of business. There is nothing that has the Christmas spirit in this store. Do not go, especially if you have kids! I was yelled at, yes yelled at, for trying a door knocker on the wall. I was actually thinking of buying it for our cabin, shouldn't you be able to try a door knocker to hear the sound? Apparently not in the Christmas Village from hell. Anyway, it just went downhill from there. You could not pay me to support this man's business!
It was a horrible experience. I was there yesterday with my two children, who were very interested in the softtoys that they are selling. When I checked further in the shop (trying to go upstairs) for coming xmas deco/ presents, we got shoo out in a RUDE way saying 'CHILDREN are NOT ALLOWED' to go up. Actually they can put a sign on the door saying 'goods broken considered sold' to cover the unwanted incident instead of damaging the image of their store. Anyway, the shop does NOT has Xmas spirit at all, if they shoo out the children !!!
First time being there and the last! Owners are very rude! As it being my first time I was not aware that while shopping they recommend a basket, but was chased down the stairs by a screaming owner threatening to throw me and my boyfriend out! As a member of the hospitality industry I found this EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. And I have heard many stories similar to this. I strongly do not recommend it!
My handicapped client who is on disability went into the store to buy me a Christmas gift this year and he had some extra money on him so he could buy himself something nice too....He bought 2 wooden dolls and spent $300.. I expected a $20 gift not $300 SoI went into the store to get him a refund just 10 minutes later and the owner refused to give him his money back.....Merry E-FEN Christmas. I hope to God this store is out of business soon. Promise me you will NEVER shop at this store...
This is a terrible store. The guy who owns it is horrible. Who's ever heard of a Christmas store that has banned children?
Avoid this place unless you feel like getting watched and then yelled at
