My stay was great. The cell service wasnt as great but that was due to the trees so not the hotels fault. But over all I did enjoy my stay
Basic accommodations with two double beds and a bathroom. Mould lined the upper edges of the yellow-ish bathroom walls. Furniture looked dated. Beds were springy and worn. Old state smell of smoke in the air.
The government issues vouchers for local domestic disputes, children welfare and newly released prison inmates to use this establishment.
The motel was not clean. The sheets were clean but the beds were worn out. The water pressure for the showere was great. But cleaning standards were not. The staff were very helpful in helping with the wifi. And it was a great location for our stay. The price was very good
The motel is an older 1950s style motel. The owner and his family are very nice and do a very good job taking care of the guests. I was especially pleased with directions to an ATM and the Via Rail Canada Station. At many budget chain motels the front desk could care less.
My son and I chose this hotel because it was inexpensive. On the good side, it was spacious, quiet, close to town, and had all that we needed: 2 beds, A/C, fridge, microwave, tv, hot shower and parking. We were comfy and slept well. On the down side, it so needs a good cleaning. Also could use a paint job. We weren't in the hotel very much, so didn't have to worry about it. If you're looking to... more
worst room I ever rented - air conditioner did not work asked for a different room - was told none were better - carpets extremely stained - bathroom had dirt in corners- partially repaired dry wall - slept in my truck along the interstate - at least it was cool!!!rate this motel at minus 10- peril of pre paid rooms
I traveled with 2 kids and felt very unsafe off the bat. They seems to be cost cutting as refrigerator was not plugged in. Beds were old and AC was a bit smelly. Good thing though was how close it was to Blue water bride and park.
Kindly get rooms clean, they were very dirty
It is really surprising how they are still in business
Wow the cockroaches were as big as cats and were threatening us. The bathroom smelled like an outhouse and there was no toilet just a hole in floor. The carpet smelled like dogs poop and the mold on walls and ceiling made interesting geometrical designs. We opened the closet and discovered a dead body crumpled inside. We called the front... more
My expectations were low and I was shocked to find a new lower low. Worn out sheets, dirty floors and carpet and too much old abused furniture (could hardly walk past the bed to get to the bathroom!) I didn't even want to use the disgusting shower.
adequate when all other Sarnia hotels are full. You get what you pay for.
The location and the price are great. I was going on a shopping trip and it is close to the border and very cheap. Cleanliness and repair of the hotel are not very good. Beds are fine and area is quiet and safe. Could use a lot of easy upgrading. Good choice for the price and we keep coming back.
Nice area. Noisy at night. Poor beds - need raplacing along with bedding. Nice manager - let us check in early. Motel needs a lot of work. Priced quite low. Great restaurant next door. Would stay again.
At first sight, I was a little apprehensive. Decor of the room not up to date, but clean and comfortable. I would probably check out other locations on my next visit.
The room was to be smoke free but bedding smelled of stale smoke, the one bed had a broken frame when my wife sat on the end of the bed it went almost to the floor. The rug was sticky and the room had an order in it. When I asked about check out and said we'd be leaving about 8am he said there would be no one around just leave the key in the room and leave, I aked about our bill he said it... more
very rough rooms,ac did not work, evry room seemed like a smoking room
It is pretty the same as other hotels charging $57/day. Just make sure you pack before 11:00AM. Check out is at 11:00AM not like in other hotels at noon.
Al the front desk clerk was very helpful, we asked prior to booking to view the rooms they where ok for the price! Bed where nice and clean the floors and trim could use some dusting and the a/c unit needs overhaul for sure. They have nice bbbq also outside for guest to use. We made great use of it... more
the restaurant next door was convenient and the food there was great. It was close to the park and the Lake. All in walking distance.
Rooms were fairly clean. Although we asked for a non smoking room, there was a faint cigarette smell and a musty air to it. Bathroom was clean despite reading one review that said it was mouldy. Could be another room. Overall, thought it was better than expected except for the musty smell.
I think maybe people confuse extremely (extremely) dated, with dirty. I found the room clean enough, I wouldn't eat off the carpet, but I wouldn't eat off the carpet anywhere! We stayed here for a night away from the kids after dinner at the Chipican Restaurant (best steak, rivals anywhere!) and a walk in Canatara Park.
You get what you...

We needed a room for the night, had 2 choices either the Guildwood or Chipican. Only couple room s to choose from at each .We chose the Chipican because of price and location. The room had not been aired out, cig ashes behind bathroom door , dime and lint and dust under bed. Sheets looked clean, but brought own. Shower walls disgusting, black mold. Will not stay here again. Manager was... more
It was so cold in the room that we were never able to take off our clothes. The manager put on the heat but it never warmed up sufficiently even though we had used our own sleeping bags to help ward off the cold of the room. My husband slept from 12:00 until 3:00 a.m. and I slept until 4:00 a.m. In the morning it was too cold to have a shower and I never even unpacked my suitcase for a change... more
What is great its close to the Canada/US border. The bathroom could have used some sweeping. No coffee in the room. Great steak house next door. It was fine place to crash for the night. Sleeping area was clean and comfortable. For price paid it was a great deal.
Good value for a place to sleep while travelling.
nothing fancy - basic hotel. very conveniently located. excellent price. The chipican restaurant attached to the hotel is a great value! I would recommend this hotel.
I can overlook a lot of things but I expecte a comfortable bed. The room had two full size beds. I sat on the first one and rolled immediately to the middle of the bed. The second was even worse. I felt like I was sleeping in a bathtub. I am there primaryily to sleep so the quality of the bed is most important. Other than the bed I would have no problem recommending this hotel.
The hotel was expensive as there was an event going on and could have used a really good cleaning (walls & mirrors) and maybe some repairs. I didn't mind it though as the location was good, a restaurant next door and it was a place to crash and shower. Depending on your expectations is whether you would like this place or not. It served it's purpose for me.
Although the staff was friendly, the room was old and not the cleanest. It smelled.
Our family has stayed several times at the Chipican - very reasonable rates allow older kids to have their own room. Staff is very pleasant; rooms are cleaned daily and although not terribly luxurious, the rooms have everything you need.
This is a very good bargain for the traveler who is looking for a place to sleep and shower while vacationing. This place has impressive customer service for the price. I found the front desk staff to be extremely well trained, as I am a traveler for work staying in hotels every week for over 6 years I do have extensive experience with front desk people. Rooms were clean and bed comfy. Of... more
The room was a good size. The carpet was clean and in good condition. The beds were neatly made and there was also plenty of sitting space.
The standard of customer service was excellent. Check-in was quick and efficient and the member of staff very polite and helpful.
Our stay at Chipican Motel was great as usual. Polite, courteous & friendly service. Thank you, we will be back. Meals at the rstaurant were exceptionally good, also excellent service there as well.
Since we were there two weeks, we appreciated the senior rates. Also, because it was quiet there, we both slept very well. The room was clean. We liked the new tub and sink! And how nice to have a quick response and friendly smile to any of our requests! And we have to say our stay there was quite a good experience. Thank you for that!

We just wanted to say again -- that our stay at your 'Motel Chipican' was most pleasant.
We stayed there to be close to the bridge and downtown. All those places where we wanted to go were nearby. Next door restaurant food was good. Park in front of the motel is nice for walk & picnic and we enjoyed our weekend stay there. Room was a decent size with two double beds and of course a bathroom... more
This hotel is in need of extensive renovations. My room was in very poor shape (except the bathroom that had been extensively renovated). The advertised amenities were not in working condition. Probably good for somebody whose only consideration is the budget.
The office person was very nice as he took my money for the room, of course. Opened the door to an overwhelming stench of old furniture, cigarettes and dirt. The room was decorated with roadside furniture. There was putty filler clumped on the ceiling, stains running down the walls and the carpeting was worn off, We did not remove our shoes. The... more
I consider myself lucky for not worrying about the bad reviews on this motel. Last week before crossing the bridge I just wanted to have a night rest with the lowest price in any hotel near the bridge, so I took my chances and stayed at this motel. Surprisingly the room was better than my expectations, bathroom was clean, staff... more
I decided to stay overnight in Sarnia on my way to Chicago. I found the motel room to be very old. The furnishings were very old, the bed lumpy, the pillows hard, the lighting dim, the towels old and thin. I was not impressed at all. Good thing I had an extra pillow from home with me or I would not have slept at all.
We just needed a place to stay overnight to relieve a long drive the next day. The Chipican Motel was predictably adequate for our 1 night stopover but really overpriced for the quality of the hotel. The mattresses were as old as the facility and had no mattress pad - just a thin sheet. The screens on the door and windows had holes in them, so we went with the air conditioner, which worked just... more
For the price of $ 55.00 Cnd you could not go wrong. The price reflected the cleanliness and noise. It did not matter that the rooms were outdated but the amount of "dust bunnies" in the sleeping area and dirt in the bathroom could not be overlooked. I did not have a shower due to the bathtub and bathroom surroundings... more
We did not enjoy our stay at this motel. If we had not prepaid for these rooms we would not have stayed and we feel you should remove this motel from your web site. And I feel that a credit for 1 nights free stay at a better motel in Ontario.
Although not quite as dreadful as some of the older reviews might suggest (there are signs of recent attempts to improve the motel, and I would guess that our room -- number 4 -- was one of the "renovated" ones), I would not recommend the Chipican highly. The place was generally run down -- there was no stopper for the bathtub, for instance -- and our room smelled strongly of mildew. However,... more
Nice and cozy rooms with all the amenties. Friendly staff and good service. Definetely a very affordable and nice place to stay. I will definately recommend it my friends and family.
We went for a family reunion and booked for a day but end up. staying two more days. Its a nice cozy budget friendly motel. We stayed in non smoking room which had two double beds with a microwave and a fridge and a desk , chair etc. Room and the bathroom inside was neat and clean and provided with... more
Hotel was dirty. Sheets were stained. Bathroom had black mould in every corner of the room and the shower. Curtains were falling off. A/C was broken. Alarm clock was broken. Carpets were dirty. Dirt on floors. Looked like dusting hadn't been done in months. Hair in sink. Toilet wasn't washed and had a dirty plastic container with a sponge in... more
Not consulting Trip Advisor before we booked this motel was our first mistake. Upon arriving, we were verbally harassed by another person staying at the motel, and should have left right then and there. Since Bayfest is the busiest time of the year, all the other hotels in the area were sold out. The person at the desk charged us... more
I enjoyed staying at the Chipican Motel. The rooms are clean, service is excellent. Very decent rates. Management & staff are nice people & friendly, and friendliness goes a long way with customers.
Comparing to the rent we paid the motel room was decent and above our expectation. It was comfortable, clean and very quiet. Next door restaurant meal was very delicious. We were visiting some of our relatives during Christmas holidays and next time again it will be our place of stay for sure.
This place is absolutely disgusting. We walked into the room, turned on the light, and saw nothing but filth. One bed was messed up, there was dust covering all furniture, what seemed to be blood stains all over the back of the door. The bathroom was the grossest thing I've ever seen -- black mold/mildew growing in the shower, toilet... more
I usually go to sarnia at least once every month for my business trip and always stay at this motel. The reasons are, quite and nice location, lowest price in town, big and fairly clean rooms. The best part is it is located right across a beautiful park which is my favorite place in whole town and I always like... more
This place is the kind of place you would drive by and wonder "who would stay there" Room rentals very cheap by the week.
Curtains are dirty and hanging off the windows. The restaurant next door is a good cheap steak place (different owners) but the hotel needs to be gutted
I stayed at this motel for a night during the Bayfest weekend. Their rooms were fine, not too fancy and luxurious. The room I had, had all the basic necessities I required and I found it to be a decent enough place to stay peacefully at for the night, with a pretty reasonable price.
When I went there the motel...

This hotel was so bad we did not even walk on the carpets with bare feet. The matresses filty. The bathroom moldy. The "drapes" held up by masking tape. I do not know how this place hasn't been shut down already. We stayed up and out of the room for as long as possible. Because it was for one night... more
My husband and I and another couple went to Sarnia for Bayfest. We had booked the room a week prior and were looking forward to the party. I was looking at hotels in the Ottawa area when I came across this site, tripadvisor.
I was wondering how honest the reviews were, so I thought I would check to see what was posted about the Chipican. I am impressed...most of the reviews are honest (though I find some a little too charitable for describing the Chipican).

Went back to sarnia looked in at this motel to see if it had improved from my September05 visit. Sorry to say it was still the same. Filthy and the same surly character on the front desk. Didn't stay and didn't pay. Have passed my comments onto my Canadain friends and to Sarnia chamber of commerce
The room amenities offered within room were more than to be expected. Staff were extremely friendly and provided prompt service. The room rates were incredible considering the location and amenities offered. I will most assuredly return to this motel.
This "motel" filth hole is nearer the truth. Grabs your money then gives you the key. ALL unoccupied room have the drapes closed so that culable punters cannot see the dirt till they pay their hard earned cash. When you complain and ask for your money back it is against internet booking policy for them to do so LIES they set... more
I wish I had come to this website to read the reviews before I paid my hard earned $63.08 to spend the night at this place. This is the worst place we've ever stayed in... even worse than the backwoods motel we previously thought was the worst in Paduca, Kentucky when the hotel clerk asked us to borrow money for... more
Has to be, by far, "The Worst" motel I have ever had the misfortune to stay at. Trust me, other comments made in the other reviews are exactly correct. Our room, as described by my 14 year old son, must have been a crime scene as per the tell tale signs of blood on the carpet and I have to... more
This was a complete disasater. The room was filthy, complete with 1/2 inch of dust on baseboards and an old leather chair that was in such bad condition it was being held together with duct tape and management had thrown an old mangy blanket over it. When I pulled the comforter off the bed I discovered to my horror that... more
"Comfortable & Clean Rooms" offered in the web site description couldn't be further from truth. Room 12 was outfitted with a King bed that looks to be a salvaged waterbed that had the water mattress replaced with just a mattress, no box spring. The bedding (sheets & blanket) barely covered the mattress. Speaking of the 60's, it looks like the... more
