Worst experience of my life
August 07, 2014

Terrible place. When I go into details of why this was the case, my review gets rejected.

Do not stay here! May be cheap ($80/night) but here is what you can look forward to
-Sweltering heat and no AC
-Rooms that have had serious chain smokers as guests
-Heavy Metal playing loud enough to rattle the walls in the pub downstairs until 1am
-Dog blankets for your bed spread
-Terrible customer service

Horrible, horrible experience.
-Dysfunctional showers

Inside good, outside bad
May 26, 2014

The outside of the hotel and the immediate neighborhood are pretty run down (my girlfriend called it "really sketchy"). It's also in the same building as a karaoke bar that seems to be managed by the same guy. That said, that one guy was really friendly and helpful and inside the room itself was great. I paid a bit extra for a "deluxe" room and it was all decorated in a deep red Chinese style... more

One night was too much!
September 21, 2013

We booked a room for a couple another an additional adult. the supplied room had 2 beds which were supposed to be 'double' but they were below the width of the usual double bed. for the couple this meant a most uncomfortable night with little sleep. the hotel staff were pleasant and the gentleman helpful with directions. We would find it difficult to recommend this establishment.

Would definitely go back
September 19, 2013

Considering the first place we stayed at in Squamish had dirty comforters, stained sheets, black mold, and wifi that would not work couple with rude staff, this place was great! The staff was sweet and caring. This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, but it was quiet and clean and so close to the shops and all the rick climbing Squamish has to offer. My only suggestion would be to increase the... more

Hotel was nice, but no good room. Smelly rooms. Uncomfortable bed etc. No proper parking directions. It was very hard to communicate with the hotel staff.

Good Price-Clean Rooms
August 18, 2013

Hotel staff were very helpful and attentive. Hotel exterior is very rundown, however room and bathroom were clean and somewhat updated. Hotel is under new management and perhaps they will continue to make rennovations. Hotel is in a good location, you can easily walk to restaurants and unique gift shops.

Good Value
August 09, 2013

We selected hotel because it was the only one available and given the low price our expectations were very low. The hotel entrance adjacent to the pub reinforced our initial impression, but much to our surprise the room was clean and quiet. If all you want is reasonably priced, clean quiet place to sleep, then the Chieftain is not a bad choice.

A certain charm
July 24, 2013

Normally, my wife wouldn't go for a $60 hotel but it was at the tail end of a costly trip. Fortunately, the desk clerk made a very good impression when we checked in. The only real downside was that the room was hot from the sun. We opened the window, turned the floor fan on, threw all the blankets off... more

Solid economical choice.
June 23, 2013

Well within expectations for this price range and location. Solid 3-star hotel; indeed our bathroom's cleanliness and room amenities (good size mini-fridge, microwave) exceeded our expectations a bit. Front desk personnel checking in and out (different people) were welcoming and friendly. Even though this hotel is attached to a bar/pub downstairs and we stayed over a weekend, noise was never... more

They could use fitted sheets that stay on the bed. And the breakfast they advertised was a coffee pot in the room w/ tea and coffee to make in the morning.

Pictures can be deceiving
August 21, 2011

We spent two nights at the chieftain and were surprised to find that the rooms look absolutely nothing like the pictures on their website. The "double" beds were more like twin size, we could barely stand in the tiny shower, there stains and cigarette burns in the blankets, and there was no screen on the window which not only opened... more

Nice downtown Squamish stay
August 07, 2011

I decided to stay in Squamish while visiting the area and found the Chieftain to be a nice hotel. Squamish definitely has the small town feel and most places close pretty early. I would consider staying here again if I was doing a lot more sightseeing in the area.

We drove through Squamish on our way from Whistler to Vancouver Island in late May and needed a place to sleep. The front desk at the Chieftain hotel was very helpful when asking for availability so we decided to spend the night here. Big mistake! The check-in that usually takes no more than ten minutes, took 35 here. They were trying to make copies of my credit cards, passport and driver's... more

A step up from being homeless
March 21, 2011

First of all, don't be fooled by the pictures of this hotel that are visible on travel sites. I took my own pictures, and I promise they don't match up. From the hole in our wall to the cigarette burn in my blanket and the wooden slabs which held up the slightly-larger-than-twin beds, I was ridiculously thankful when my cell... more

Two of my friends and I stayed here on the way to slay the dh trails of Whistler. The price was nice and, upon seeing there were 3 of us the gent at the front desk gave us an extra room FREE! The views from the room were fantastic. No A/C, but big whoop. Get tough. I will return.

I love this place
July 13, 2010

The Chieftain is very different to most hotels we stayed at on our 4 week road trip.
We had passed through Squamish on previous visits to the area, but never stayed, we knew the Chieftain from the TV series "Men in Trees".
Do not be put off by the appearance of the large old building. It houses a Hotel, Pub,... more

Chieftan Hotel in downtown Squamish
June 14, 2010

The hotel exterior looks quite plain. The hotel is older but beautifully maintained. Everything is very clean, the lobby is small and welcoming. There is no elevator but it is only a short flight of stairs to the rooms. The room was very clean with a great view of the mountains. NIcely decorated. The bathroom is recently remodelled, very bright and clean. The rooms are small but have a... more

Great Room. Really Clean
June 10, 2010

I would recommend this hotel not just for the price but for the cleanliness of the rooms and the very pleasant helpful service. All rooms have recently been remodelled and updated. Decor is tasteful. Had a great sleep in a VERY comfortable bed.

not worth the cheap price
November 27, 2009

I found this on Expedia for $69 and it seemed nice. The hotel is older, no elevator so you have to drag your suitcases upstairs. On entering the room it was all in green complete with velvet green bedspread and green sheer draperies. Worst part was the continuous thumping from the bar below and NO hot water at nite or... more

July 14, 2009

When booking this hotel, I was taking a risk because it did not have nay review yet. The price was not too modest, so I expected a comparable level of service. When we arrived, a lady at the front desk found our reservation and still charged us for a room although it was already pre-paid by hotels.com. When the manager came, he corrected the situation and refunded the charge. The hotel looks... more

A little rough around the edges, but the room was clean
April 06, 2009

I had to stay at the Chieftain for one night with my 15 year old son, when everything else in Squamish was booked up. I was a little apprehensive, since this is an older, downtown hotel with a rowdy bar on the premises. When I booked on-line I specifically requested a room away from the bar to reduce noise, but... more
