This is a well known place, lots of business people come here for important dinners. They make very good steak, it's well known for a reason.
i had a really great meal here, with good service and although the price was a bit high i thought it was good value.
I'm under the impression that although the food here is incredible, it's not worth the price. Others disagree and say it's worth it. So the value is questionable, but the quality of food is not. If you're not from Alberta, it would be a great choice of restaurant to experience what our beef has to offer. Incredible steaks, and a good atmosphere for all types of people.
Justifiably proud of their dry-aged Alberta beef, the Chophouse delivers fantastic a la carte steaks in a gorgeous... more
Amazing!! My girlfriend and I ate here last night, we loved the canada prime tenderloin and the peppercorn gravy was incredible! Our server was very nice and gave us a great experience! Thanks again, we'll see you again soon!
I'm not a big fan of Paul Vickers or his restaurants. That said, the Chophouse is a place I've been a number of times, and will go back to. I have consistently gotten good steak, good side dishes, good vegetables, and good service. On one occasion, I ran into a problem--my wine (by the glass) was corked. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she (a) didn't ask what I meant, but instead (b)... more
Almost great, but missed with the service... my steak was great though
Food was ok. It was a good steak but didn't think it was worth the price. I like their mac n cheese dish. Its quite good and definitely helped the rating here, but you could get a similar quality steak elsewhere for less. Just my thought.
It's my first time and last time I will be ever eating in this over priced chophouse. I ordered cowboy bone-in aged prime rib, quality and age of the meat was great, but it's a disgrace that the flavor of it all is covered by over-burnt/char bitter flavor and too much salt. It really wasted the quality of the meat. My side dish was lobster mac and cheese, it was okay on the first bite, and it... more
The steak tenderloin I had was excellent. The bearnaise sauce I had with it was superbly delicious. The wine was very good too. However, it was overpriced I think, but I would recommend it for an excellent steak place.
A step up from the Met, Earl's, and Saltlik, but prices are a HUGE step up. I'd go to Ruth's Chris over this place any day, and the food would match the price.
Good steak, very good appetizers. Wine selection is great as well.
Terrible. Slow service, bland food, under cooked meat. Took over 1.5 hours to get our main meal. Getting a beer took at least 30 minutes. Didn't take our order for 30 minutes. Place wasn't busy at all. Steaks are small and expensive. Asked for medium, got a cold rare steak.
Went there for lunch. really good food. great service, good wine list.
Food is quite nice, but EXTREMELY expensive for a steak. Most any steak you get will range from $28.00 to $50.00. I got the fois gras added on to my own Bison Steak, and it was $50.00 alone just for the steak!! That's not to say, the food was outstanding, the steak the best ever in my life (not that I had ever had bison before). There were some other shortcomings: the music was nice, but WAY... more
Good atmosphere, good steak, alright appitizers. All together very over priced though.
My family went to the Casino with a reservation for 6PM... and they cancelled it! We were told there was no reservation and the restaurant was full. When I got home I found an e-mail saying the reservation was cancelled at 5PM! Insane! I would never visit this restaurant after being treated so shabbily. It gets worse. I sent them an e-mail on Sunday and have recieved no response. -10 for... more
Waiting for the 3 girls at the desk to acknowledge us after entering, one finally does, asks our name "yes, reservation", she half-nods and WALKS AWAY while the other two must be playing Angry Birds on the machine they have behind the hostess station as neither looks up while we stand there feeling like we should run screaming.Oh, if we only had - there's a COOP deli near here - might have been... more
This place is pricey (thankfully I wasn't paying!) but the food was awesome! There aren't too many vegan/vegetarian options, but they were good about swapping this for that to make a meal (note: they have quinoa!). A coworker and I ended up sitting on the second floor under/near the fans, though, and apparently there wasn't much our server could do because we asked twice about them and twice he... more
This place used to be a good place like back in 2005-6. then not anymore. i would rather go to some other place in dt.
Way overpriced for what you get. We should have known walking in on a Saturday night to a completely dead restaurant that the restaurant wasnt all it was hyped up to be. We waited 45 minutes to get our entrees (keep in mind that the restaurant was dead). When we did eventually get our food, my prime rib had more fat than meat. No one came back to ask how our food was. Right after we paid the... more
I didn't order a starter, and they brought me homade chips and dip. i finished that, and they brought me bread with balsamic and olive oil.Lake trout cooked to perfection, with a tasty dill slawPear creme brule was awesome, but could go without the chunks of pear
Loved this place. The food was exceptional. Make sure to try the beef wellington appetizer and creme brulee for dessert
Food was exellent, service was fine, the meals arrived fast and were extremely tasty.
We enjoyed our evening at Chicago Chophouse. We both had steak - which was very tender and had great flavour. Our Calamari appetizer was also tasty and the sides we ordered for our meal (garlic mashed and asparagus) were fairly good. Overall, the service was polite but a little slow - even for us as we we usually enjoy a "less rushed" feel when we eat out (our server seemed a bit scattered and... more
We all felt this restaurant was overpriced for what you got. Two of us had ribeye steaks that were probably 1/4" thick, not what you would expect from a high priced steakhouse. The appetizers were small but tasty and the sides were a good size and we enjoyed all that we ordered. The service was very good and the restaurant itself has a nice feel to it. The thing that got us was it is called a... more
We felt ignored for the first 10 minutes as the waiter was nowhere to be seen. Once the meal started he was much more present. The meal was great and the wine service was impeccable. Definitely will be here again.
The service and the food were top notch. The wine list was impressive. If you like steak and red wine, this is the place for you. Highly recommend it.
New owners. New Restaurant. The service is greatly improved. Professional, Knowledgable and Courteous. The Beef was excellent and had a unique twist that I quite liked. On the pricey side, but the quality is there to justify it. Bon Appetit.
Recently, my husband booked a corporate dinner for 10 people- the experience was horrific. We were seated upstairs where the temperature could not be regulated despite numerous requests from our table and a few half hearted attempts by staff to try and fix things. Appetizers were good, services was incredibly slow given that it was a Wednesday night and the place wasn't over-run with customers.... more
The best steaks in town!! They let you see your steaks before they cook em up!!
Last Thursday colleagues at my new job took me to Chicago Chophouse for a 'Welcome to the Company' lunch. We walked quite a few blocks to get there so we were happy to be greeted by a girl with a friendly face and positive attitude upon entering. Our server was tentative and took our drink orders promptly while handing us our menus. I would have liked a drinks menu on the table when we sat down,... more
Ridiculously expensive. $36 for a 6 oz tenderloin... JUST a 6 oz piece of steak.. No sides. Wow.. And the atmosphere was nice but the service was not so great. It took a while for our server to come greet us and after we were served our food, we'd asked for tabassco, but we never saw her again until after most the food was gone... And even when she did come back to check on us, there was still... more
I have been to the chophouse recently for lunch and for dinner, both have been great. Lunch offers an array of delicious and affordable entrees. It is fast paced. The service is wonderful, and the everything was served in a timely manner. Dinner was last Friday. There was incredible live music from 3-6, fabulous tapas, and the whole place was lively and fun. It really was a place to see and be... more
my boyfriend and I came here last year for a friend's birthday, and we ordered steak. The steak is literally JUST a steak. No veggies or sides, no nothing. And it was 40$. You could get a way better steak at Joey's or Stonehill for 30$ including veggies and sides. The plate looked extremely empty, and felt ripped off. My friend also had a chop salad - A salad you had to chop yourself. It was... more
Food was FANTASTIC (and well worth the price), however,... don't seat yourself. Lol!
I ate at your restaurant last night for my second (and LAST) time! The first time we came to Chicago Chophouse (May/11) our food was delicious, my husband and I had the Chateaubriand tenderloin which was cooked to perfection, and our service was prompt and friendly. However, last night was a totally different story...our waiter, Simon was unattentive and sour, and when we had a complaint about... more
The service was ok. The bread was freezer burned. The meat was average. The split pea risotto was great. All things considered, this was an average meal with a big price tag. If it weren't so expensive, I would probably have rated it better. If I want food like this, next time I will save my money and go to my local pub. There are lots of choices in this city for great meat. Despite the... more
The most amazing steak I've ever had! Only thing I can say about previous negatives is that they must be jealous restauranteurs, The beef that we had was beyond belief in flavour and texture. Vegetables were fresh ,expertly prepared and presented in a simple yet appealing manner. Forgot toention that the house salad was ample in size with a great variety of vegetables, loved the fresh tomato... more
Our table was great, the service was attentive without being intrusive and we had a grand time.
complete rip off. price and quality don't go hand in hand here. apparently have new owners, my advice- sell.
Fantastic experience, excellent food, wine and service! Was entertaining out of Province associates and they were so complimentary and also raved about the whole evening.
Slow service. Average food. Extremely high prices. Enough said.
It's been a bad week and a half at work, and this Friday Night Dinner needed to be special -- and after a bit of wandering down my personal favourite foodie stomping ground that is Stephen Avenue, we opened the doors to Chicago Chophouse to see what was cooking. I was greeted and seated within a couple minutes after being spotted by the maitre d', and was greeted by a cheery bartender/server... more
This place is the "IT" place in Calgary but clearly price and quality don't go hand in hand.
Went with my wife for our anniversary. Had an outstanding experience. Great Food!
This restaurant makes steak an experience. A native Albertan, the Chophouse still made me appreciate steak in a whole new way. Amazing, though pricey. Worth it.
well it wasnt anything special, the steaks at Vintage and Murriettas are just as good but with better atmosphere and service! We found the service staff to be a touch presumptuous, and flighty. We figured that such a high end place would have more 'experienced' management. I have been in the restaurant business for quite some time in Toronto and have never given control of any high end... more
I recently had the delight to dine at Chicago Chophouse. This place is a great place to entertain a business client, a family gathering or even host a party in one of their private dining rooms in the lower level. From the moment we entered the door to the moment we left the staff at Chicago Chophouse treated us like royalty. The Dry Aged Beef is absolutely incredible, intensely flavoured super... more
Chicago Chophouse is a Steakhouse, Steak, and Szechuan/Cantonese restaurant where most Menuism users came for a romantic date.
When your mind fixates on red meat, with its rich flavor, tenderness and sizzle, you'll want to come here to satisfy the craving. The Chophouse features local Canadian beef that's dry-aged, ensuring that you get a terrific cut of meat. Prime rib is the real draw, juicy and succulent, although the pork isn't too shabby either. You can order something manageable, like the 8-oz. filet mignon, or... more
This new stop on the steak and red wine circuit is marketing itself as THE place for a power lunch or dinner, with dry-aged Canadian Angus beef on the menu (prices range from $18-$34), and bottles of wine that cost more than what some of the help earns in a week. The young and attractive servers are what you would expect from the local entertainment group that owns this and a nearby... more
