I've had very good Italian food at Chianti's in the past. This time, I and my daughter ordered veal a la parmesan. The meat was not tender, too much cheese just strewn over it and the thick spaghetti noodles were tough and the sauce appeared to be just sauce heated up from a can so a real disappointment. To top... more
Great pasta, go Monday and Tuesday for pasta frenzy for discounts. Caesar salad is $1.99 and the chocolate mouse is on special. The pasta and service is very good. Monday and Tuesday is busy so recommend reservation
If you are ever in old Strathcona it's a "YOU GOTTA EAT HERE"
The food and service was exceptional !
Dining solo - they treated me well, service was prompt. Server was new, so she couldn't really recommend much. I ordered the Cioppino - the linguini and sauce was good, but the scallops, squid, and prawns were overcooked - I don't know if the mussels were or not. The bun was boring.
The Food is always good, Service is well-done and the food is superior. We have never had a complaint in any of our visits.
We went for a mid-afternoon "lupper." The service was good on the patio and the spinach Fettucini Diablo was superb.
We ordered food from Chianti's for a double baptism celebration. They have a fantastic catering menu at $10/person. We expected about 40 people and had tons of food left over. Portion sizes are large and everything tasted great. We ordered the Penne Alla Gigi, Penne Supremo (minus scallops) and Fusilli Giardiniera Con Pollo. All delicious!
Pre-ordering was so easy. We...

Chianti's is simply delightful! The fresh pasta is to die for. I love the penne with sun-dried tomatoes in a curry creme sauce! The fettuccine Alfredo & pasta with rose sauce are both sinfully delicious! Perfect place for an afternoon lunch on the patio!
We regularly go to Chianti's. Especially when we want an Italian meal. We always get great service and usually ask for a quicken the service as are late for something.
They have really good specials if you like seafood.
Portion sizes are great!
Service was ok the food was below average. The combinations of the pasta were a little odd and the lasagna was a little greasy.
Chianti's pasta, there's nothing better then fresh pasta. They serve a tasty Gelato as well, the service has always been good when I've been there. They are also very accommodating, if you want to slightly switch up how things are on the menu, example switch out one kind of pasta for another with the rest remaining the same.
I haven't...

My wife and I went to Chianti Cafe recently. Having grown up in an Italian household, traveled to Italy and eaten in several Italian restaurants, we've developed a natural love for Italian food. Unfortunately, Chianti Cafe was terribly disappointing. This is not an Italian restaurant. It is an imitation and an extremely poor one at that. Bread buns with no... more
Honestly my lasagna at home is way better and the calamari was disappointing. I think it's just the location is why it's busy. Will never come back.
I have been here a few times and had a great experience every time. The decor is nothing fancy so it allows for a nice casual atmosphere. The food is always delicious. Try the mista salad and alla panna, they are my favorite. The servers are always friendly, constantly refilling drinks and the food always comes quickly. On top of... more
The place was very busy and noisy on a weekend evening but the wait wasn't long and the service was good. Food ranged from ordinary to good. Prices are reasonable.
We were in Edmonton for two nights and ended up going to Chianti on both nights. The first evening we went for dinner - it was freezing out and we started with Minestrone and hot, complimentary bread rolls. Yum! Perfect for the weather. We both chose veal, although we picked different sides; the kitchen seems prepared to be endlessly flexible... more
Chianti's is a decades-old fixture on the Ave, and well worth the trip. Excellent pastas at thoroughly reasonable prices - especially on Mondays and Tuesdays.
My personal recommendations are the Fettucini Supremo and Fettucini Du Chef.
Excellent waitstaff and atmosphere, particularly in the spring/summer with their outdoor patio. This is a place that is good for dates, business lunch or...

We are a 25-minute drive from Chianti's and find ourselves frequently heading the car in that direction.
Chianti's is in the artsy university district and has a casual, funky atmosphere. They serve a great selection of very tasty Italian cuisine at very affordable prices. IF you happen to hit their pasta frenzy nights which happen most Mondays-Tuesdays, they offer $9.95...

We have visited the Chianti Restaurant on Whyte Avenue many times and always have had a consistently excellent meal. We also find the prices reasonable, the ambiance authentic, and the service excellent.
Some friends and I came here for lunch on a weekday. It was a very enjoyable and relatively stress-free experience.
The service overall was very good, and the food was just wonderful. I was especially impressed that the restaurant was able to customize orders for those who have specific dietary requirements, so that no one in our party felt left...

Ate there last night after leaving the Keg next door and getting no food after a 2 hour wait and a rude manager.
Walked in at 9pm, waiter was great, got us a cold beer and took our orders and wer eating in 30 min. What a contrast to next door at the Keg, We had 4 beers and 2...

Nice italian food on whyte avenue! Good atmosphere and value in a good location. Their coffee is just amazing for Edmonton standards.
Great atmosphere and great service. Unfortunately they were not able to execute traditional Italian dishes such as bolognese sauce and carbonara. The bolognese sauce tasted like canned pasta sauce and the eggs in the carbonara were overcooked. There were clumps of egg whites and cooked egg yolks in the pasta, which was also overcooked. I used to frequent this restaurant... more
This gorgeous location gives a realistic Italian feel. The menu is good. The wine selections are good. The three of us all ordered a varies of dishes; veal, baked pasta, and regular pasta plus appys. All the dishes were, good. Not brilliant, not unique in flavours, just good. But the service we got, WOW. From entrance to wine delivery, food... more
We went on a busy Sat. night. This place had a manager in charge who was right on top of things plus they had enough staff to cover the restaurant. The staff as well worked together not just sticking their tables when food was ready to bring out.
The food as always was great- pasta cooked just right.

We stopped by this busy restaurant on a warm summer evening. It was crowded with everything running smoothly and our wait was not very long. The noise level was a pleasant hum that one would expect. Our waiter was efficient and very friendly. We had a wide range of items to choose from the menu and our orders were brought... more
As other reviewers have indicated Chianti offers a quite an extensive menu, but the food is certainly not 'fine dining'. Weekday night at 6pm and the restaurant was suprisingly busy. Waiter was a friendly and helpful student. Complimentary bread and drinks were on the table quickly and the main courses were on the table within 15 minutes. The $12 gnocchi... more
rated as take out only. homemade pasta is good. fettucini a little thick, and a little lean on the sauces, but otherwise good. creamy tomato sauce my new fav.
The menu was very good and had lots of choice of different Italian foods. I chose penne pasta with spicy Italian sausage with onion, garlic and a spicy tomato sauce. It was ok but nothing special and certainly no better than I could do at home. Perhaps when I go out I'm looking for something better than I can do myself.... more
My review is based on lunch time, mid week Thursday. Well hard to put all the good regarding Chianti into one review but to start: location, location, location. Housed in an old building ( I think office or retail) three different establishments, the entry to Chianti opens to a busy eating area with servers busily moving from table to table,... more
Chianti is located in a charming heritage building that was once the post office in Old Strathcona.
The owners have actively and consistently supported events in the area for years, in addition to delivering good eats at reasonable prices in a charming venue. It is a regular stop for me and many of my friends, particularly on Pasta Frenzy and...

I loved our dinner here. The atmosphere was great, the service was exceptional, and the food was unique and well prepared. They were super flexible with our menu and accommodated everyone really well.
I am an avid pasta eater and find it hard to find good quality pasta dishes at most restaurants. After trying Chianti I knew I had found a gem! This is my Uncles favorite restaurant and he finally got me to try it. I loved how you could make your own pasta by choosing the sauce, pasta type and ingredients.... more
Best gnocchi I've ever had, and my colleague said it was the best fettuccine she'd ever had! Right across the street from the fantastic Metterra Hotel.
It was ok, really! The portion was a fair size. The meatballs was tasteless, not enough zap for me. Sauce was good. They didn't have hot peppers, Imagine that! The Server was ok. It was a ok place to drop in grab a bite and split............... more
I had previously avoided this restaurant, thinking it looked too "posh." It's actually a great place, not expensive and a nice relaxed family atmosphere. The portions were huge, even the half orders. Most people I saw leaving had a doggie bag! I had the sole, which was good, and the shrimp on the top were excellent. Staff were eager to... more
We booked a reservation for lunch for a large group! We had dietary concerns and a timeline to be in and out quickly! Both issues were met with professional ,knoweldgable and excellent service! I went to this location once with my family while in Edmonton and it was great. We all had different food but it was all good. I love the sangria - cheap for a pitcher as well. I would recommend for sure.
I have been eating here since I was about 7 years old. It is by far my favourite Italian place in Edmonton. The fettucini Alfredo is delicious, I get it every time!
The serving sizes are OK but the noodles were over-cooked and the sauces bland. The service was slow. One advantage is that this restaurant does offer a number of gluten free options.
Came here for dinner one night with my husband. The food was great. He had a curry pasta dish and I had a gnocchi al pesto. The server was also friendly. If you dine here, you MUST try their tiramisu! It was the most amazing tiramisu I've ever had. It was so light and fluffy and the strawberries in it... more
We recently stopped in for a late night dinner as it was convenient to our accommodation. The meal was at best, average. We had ordered a starter of calamari, and it was classic rubber and no flavour. Nothing inspirational. The entrees were large portioned, the mussels/pesto pasta dinner was well reviewed by those who had ordered. The half portion of... more
I've always enjoyed the fresh food and the prices at these restaurants in Edmonton and Calgary.
Little disappointed last visit, prices have gone up and quality has gone down a little; may have been an off night but disappointed.
Relaxing casual atmosphere and a great location.
Chianti's used to be our favourite place when we lived in Edmonton in the early 90s so we decided to return while we were in Edmonton this week. Mondays and Tuesdays are 9.99 pasta frenzy so all pasta dishes were that price or 7.99 for a half portion. We had caesar salad, ravioli, and gnocchi and everything was yummy. It... more
My family went for lunch at Chianti. With 2 young children, I am always pleased when were seated with crayons and paper for the kids. Our child then proceed to spill the water all over the table in which they were quick to clean up and supply the young ones with more paper. We shared a double sized salad and... more
I find that the pasta is overloaded and it discounts the taste of the other ingredients and herbs. It's a little bit of a cattle farm, I felt rushed in my meal and the serving staff seem to be rushing around with little time to focus on service (not their fault perhaps). I haven't been blown away by a meal... more
First time there and we really enjoyed the meal. We waited for quite while for table and service so next time I might make a reservation!
The food was boring and overpriced, and the service was TERRIBLE. I have been to the Whyte Ave location twice and I will never go back.
The gnochi is excellent! The server was very well attentioned to our needs and provided quick and professional service. Delicious.
Italian but oh so American rush rush. Food is cheesy, aka goopy, but ok if you like that kind of American "Italian" food.
At all costs avoid the $9 spinach salad; it is basically a bag of spinach thrown on a plate, with a few slices of mushroom and bacon bits - horrid.
Service is good; some waiters are engaged...

If you love Whyte Avenue (as do I)and you love atmosphere & good food... then go! I love it! The place has a vibe! I like it if my food doesn't come immediately because I can enjoy the endless hot bread rolls they bring to you!! Mmmmmmm! I could feast on those and a bottle of wine alone! I appreciate that they never mind making special dishes I request as my palate desires! Go - Enjoy!
I took some clients here for a business lunch, just for a change, and even they were impressed with the service and great food.
The food is amazzing, service wonderful i recommend the pollo con funghi chicken in mushroom sauce - to die for.
Great food, I loved the pasta very much, I had excellent service very attentive and pleasent, unique building and dining.
The pasta was great but the service has room for improvement. Mabey someone died cause the atmosphere was terrible. It looked like no one wanted to be there but then again was really cold that day. Give it a miss.
I love going to this place, such a unique atmosphere and great food even better service. I love what they did with the whole place as far as design goes.
I'm a pastaholic and that's all I've tried at Chianti's. It has a very friendly and cozy atmosphere and in the summer they have a great patio. Pasta's are cooked right and the sauces flavourful and interesting. They usually have 3 or 4 special dishes on at any one time and at least 2 are not a pasta (they do serve other good stuff too). One of my favorite pasta sauces they have is a curry-cream... more
