If you're an aircraft buff like my dad, you'll love this interactive museum that charts the course of Canadian aviation from the beginning of World War II to the present. Visitors can climb into the cockpits of World War II trainer crafts or a CF-100 jet fighter. The most popular attractions are the flight simulators, which allow aspiring pilots to test their skills (my favorite part). There... more
One can't help but get a bit teary eyed walking through the initial display about the men and women who put it all on the line to "keep 'em flying". This is a great place for the little ones. Admission is free for 5 and under. They can run around the static displays. Lots of "old timers" around who flew or worked on these aircraft to help you understand what you're looking at. Some cockpits are... more
If you are in the area or living in Hamilton and never been to the museum, you should seriously consider visiting the museum. There is nothing like seeing up-close all those wonderful machines that helped preserve our way of life. History buffs will spend hours studying the planes and kids will just have fun and learn a lot of about... more
This is one of the best kept secrets , you can see war planes that you probably have not seen learn the history , also display of uniforms of the era , snack and light lunches available, and often program for the young. This building is completely accessible, there is nothing to dislike
Kids had a blast looking at these funny planes. Lunch was well done inside the cafeteria. We took our time and had a good look around. Some of the older guys had some good stories. Fun family event.
This is a first class museum with a very understated presentation from outside. but once you enter, you are taken back more that 60 years in aviation history.
It's more than a museum in that restoration work is carried out as you tour the "hangar." Anyone with an interest in aviation or WWII history will find this place to be...

One needn't be an airplane buff or a World War scholar to appreciate this attraction. The fact that much of the operation is run on the basis of the enthusiasm and dedication of volunteers, adds to the marvel it has become. Often there are men and women volunteers working onsite restoring planes, in what is a vast and varied collection.... more
Wow this is a happening year at the WPHM, but in some respects a somewhat sad ending this summer. There are a lot of unique events that I will want to attend, that will give you great new photo ops. I want to get as many great shots of the Lanc, my fave warplane, and I have been busy doing... more
Anyone who loves aviation, history and a really really amazing experience HAS to go here. It really is magical and if you're there when the Lancaster or a Mitchell is taking off or landing it's mind blowing. The planes inside are wonderful, you can spend hours and hours going through the place. I Love it!
Second time, and it just gets better and better, great volunteers with a lifetime of knowledge. Don't put it off
Spent an afternoon at the Warplane Heritage Museum with my Mother and my young son, 11 years old. Very much enjoyed getting "up close and personal" with many legendary and some more obscure aircraft that they have on-site. Although the museum seems a little "sleepy", we enjoyed the self-led tour at a leisurely pace and were able to get a... more
I brought my 20 year old daughter, my boyfriend and my senior parents. We all enjoyed it. Spend the time to read the displays in the first part of the museum. They really are interesting. And then be wowed by the amount and types of planes in the hangar area. It's a very very well done museum.
I really enjoyed the visit to this museum. The entrance fee is low and they have donation boxes throughout the exhibit (including one for Canadian Tire money to help buy much-needed tools and supplies). There was a set-up for wedding and apparently they do a lot of business with receptions.
The aircraft were amazing. In addition to housing the aircraft...

A real hidden treasure in Hamilton !! This is one of those places that you have to at one time go and visit. Great static displays and passionate people who are involved in the restoration of older aircraft. Lots of history and a chance to ride in either the "Lanc" Lancaster bomber or perhaps a B-25 Mitchell. Our friend from... more
This is truly a unique musium filled with rare & historic aircraft. Check it out ... you won't be sorry !
The warplane museum is very interactive and also has meeting facilities . It can accommodate private functions as well . We enjoyed our use of the facility and recommend it to all ages . Children and well as adults will learn an incredible amount due to the ability to see inside the many planes .
Great place for all .
Great place to revist the Canadian war effort. Also a great location for catered events. Our daughter had her wedding reception there, with the head table placed right below the Lancaster. Balance of guest could visit the other exhibits guided by some vets. Great occasion.
The Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton has been a historical icon for generations. Children as well as adults are always fascinated with flight and the history behind these wonderful aircraft that are stored at the museum. One of my sons is an aviation technician and has been an admirer of planes since he was a teenager! He is always a... more
It's a fun way to spend an afternoon if you're a plane enthusiast.....you can contact them ahead of time to see if you can 'charter' a ride on one of the older planes....sometimes it's available, sometimes not.
Easy to get to. Home of one of only two operating Lancaster bombers. Nice clean and interesting facility. Volunteers work on restoring wartime era plane that you can view.
My grandsons will go there three or four times a year, they never get bored. They come home every time with a new airplane from the gift shop. Great for family outings. You can tell the staff take pride in the museum. I would highly recommend.
My boys loved going here.checking out the planes and you can go in some and some fun things to see and do.great for pics.went to 2 weddings here too.great ambiance for it.
Very well run museum. Modest size but collection is good, staff is outstanding. Very helpful and clearly dedicated. Very kid friendly, a kids birthday party was going on during my visit in their canteen. Great gift shop, many unusual items I've not seen elsewhere. Check out their event calendar
Wonderful of collection of planes. Would love to go back in the summer and see some of them in operation. The volunteer was very knowledgeable about the planes on display.
Great afternoon at the Warplane Heritage Museum. Got a chance to sit in a restored plane and try out the simulator. I loved the video sections and what a great gift shop they have. Also attended the Rememberance Day ceremony for the last three years there.
Great Airplane displays. Friendly staff. Great for an afternoon outing for anyone who loves history and airplanes.
A fine collection of aircraft. The volunteer staff provide guidance,
information and are very friendly. Recommended.

If you enjoy history or war stories you will find this place just what you want. You can walk around for hours. The people are very nice and helpful about all the planes.
Amazing work that everyone does on the planes to keep them flying for everyone to enjoy and to keep history alive for generations to come. Well worth the trip and helps to support the museum. Great venue for weddings and parties too. Gift shop has quality items for sale. Staff are friendly and helpful.
This museum is a great place for family and friends. The guides are very knowledgable and will answer your questions. My daughter even had a sleep over in the museum with her Girl Guide group! This is a fun place filled with history and lots of interesting exhibits. Give it a try when you are in the Mount Hope/Hamilton area.
I visited on a cold snowy New Year's Eve morning when everyone else had other things to do & places to be, so about 12 of us got the place to ourselves on a very quiet day. This was ideal for me being able to photograph the historic planes in peace & quiet.
Fantastic being up close & personal with...

Hamilton is not known for its long list of cultural attractions but it's Hamilton's own fault for not making this quality museum -- located across the street from the airport -- better known to folks on both sides of the border.
There aren't many very good plane museums in North America so this should be added to any fan's list because, as I've learned from a few visits, it keeps getting...

This is a well set up museum with very knowledgeable people around to give you insight and information.
Love that the planes that are currently being restored are also on display.
We have been to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum several times over the years. The displays are excellent with a large number of aircraft. There are also flying simulations that kids really enjoy. You can look in the cockpit of many aircraft and sit in mock ups and go on board the flight deck of a B727. All in all... more
It was very interesting going back in time with the rebuild machines they used in the wars to help make our country safe. This is something worth seeing on your check list of to do's.
Great for kids and adults alike. See the planes up close and climb aboard several of them. Informative and interesting way to learn about the role warplanes have had in missions around the world. A hands-on way to learn about an important part of our heritage.
Very intresting that men flew these old planes in the war,it makes you think how brave they where. The times have change so much from then.
great as a museum ( very interesting ) and banquet place . attend the Vday dance in time period costume and dance the night away amongst historical airplanes .........excellent entertainment and food .
We were just married there. They were very helpful with a lot of things, even if we did go through 4 coordinators before the wedding. They also let us in to see the museum any time we wanted at no charge. The guests loved the setup and are still raving about it! We had the Lancaster behind our head table.... more
When you're visiting Hamilton, this museum is a must to see. When we went the first time my kids were teens and we all enjoyed the day spent there. It was my second visit, a friend was flying from Hamilton airport, we had an hour so we went to the museum
It is nice but I have been to much bigger one in Portland in the US
It's a good museum that requires about an hour to go through. It is volunteer based and the restorations are pretty cool to take in.
My son (14 years old) and I just returned from visiting this museum. Was a little disappointed today as a large portion was roped off for a dinner event and it seemed very cramped.
Lots of the platforms to view the planes were roped off as well.
The admission price is high $24 for both of us.
Probably would not...

I gave this a 3 because I thought it was just ok. My son and Mom both really love planes so we thought this would be a good stop. Neither one enjoyed it much. The price for admission is most definitely too high for what you see.
The place is big and they had a lot of stuff in it...

Great planes and exhibits. My wife and I always have a great time just hanging out and looking at the planes.
If you go on Saturdays early, you can see a lot of the planes landing and taking off as well as flying for the people that have paid to go up in them. Always nice seeing them flying around.
This is a very good Museum with lots of different aircraft to view. The entry area gets you right in to what it is all about and then you are in the hanger area..It is huge! The volunteers ask you if you are finding everything and the folks that are rebuilding the aircraft go into great detail of the aircraft... more
Having heard about but never visited, we stopped in on a rainy Saturday to check out the museum. A great place to spend a rainy afternoon.
Well laid out, organized and a great place to go back in time and see the airplanes up close and learn something about the days of early aviation.
Our grandchildren loved it. they climbed in and out of the available planes and we celebrated the photo app. We showed them the photo of our late great uncle who was killed in the Dambuster raid. They loved eating overlooking planes. I love the giftshoppe
Totally fascinating, amazing variety of planes, lovely shop and lots of volunteers to provide details on each plane. Great place to take the kids to.
A very historical review of the war with great displays. Also a chance to sit in the cockpit of old airplanes. Many on display. If you are lucky there may be an opportunity to fly in one. Also a supporter of local cadet programs and events which we should all be grateful for and encourage our children 12-19 to become... more
Great museum! The planes on display are beautifully kept and the hangar area was huge! Tons to see, great exhibits, and very nice staff. It's not a massive museum so it won't take hours to go through but the hour or so you'll spend there is totally worth it. We even got to meet the mechanic who works there full time restoring the planes and keeping them flying. Must see!
I've been going to this place for decades, since it was in the old WW-II hangers. It's now a world class museum with some of the finest WW-II aircraft you'll find anywhere in the world, many in flying condition. One of the few flying Lancaster bombers in the world. Nice little coffee shop & great gift shop. I love this place, if you apreciate aviation history you will too!
Flying through the Hamilton, ON airport? Stuck with a long layover? Head across the parking lot to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to pass the time. There are warplanes aplenty AND they have a canteen that has better (and cheaper) options than the airport. I took my family of 5 there and it made our day fly by. They even have kids meals that come with tiny (cheap) plastic... more
