A Real Gem

Stumbled upon this fabulous little museum by accident and it was fascinating. So much history and our guide was well informed on the history of Toronto and Canada. Our teenage son loved it and had great discussion with our guide. It's a guided tour only for about 45 minutes to an hour, but it really was worthwhile.

A house with a very moving experience
July 08, 2014

The Campbell house is a great location in the middle of busy down town. The history of this house is fascinating and the staff are great. I liked the basement kitchen and the history and pitures of this move being moved to its present location. It is nice to go there around Christam to see the decorations they have.

A Welcoming Elegance

We attended a wedding reception held here and the service couldn't have been better. From the servers to the bar staff, everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at ease. The food was fresh, tasty, and nicely presented, though there were not enough places to lay items down: because of the many antiques and their... more

In the City

Check times for when this place is open. I didn't and when I go there, it was closed. Perhaps best to call ahead. I did go back and enjoyed learning Toronto history that I wasn't aware of. You will have to go there to find out because I'm not sharing. It's not a large house so your visit won't take... more

Charming gem
March 24, 2012

This is a great way to learn more about the history of Toronto and what life was like in the early history of the city. The guide was extremely knowledgeable with lots interesting facts about both Toronto history and the house itself. If you are into small intimate museums then this is the place for you.

Cute Little Colonial-Like Home
February 26, 2012

This home is adorable and was available for free entry during the Nuite Blanch Festival in Toronto and the Doors Open Toronto. I was able to see the house at night during the Nuite Blanch Festival. It is a short excursion (approx. 20mins) to see the entire house. It is very cute and the rooms are decorated according to the... more

Overall rating:
It is worthwhile to take some time for this unassuming building. To Toronto from times past to understand better is the Campbell House, as well as the First PostOffice Toronto country badly.

Fun tour of one of Toronto's oldest homes
September 10, 2011

The Campbell House is on Queen Street and is a very short walk to Nathan Phillips Square where the Old and New City hall buildings are located which makes visiting all these places in short order. The Campbell name comes from its first owner who was a prominent justice in early Toronto. To gain entrance and have a tour guide... more

A rare example of Georgian architecture, this museum is the restored home of the first Chief Justice of Upper Canada.

Campbell House was built in 1822 for Judge William Campbell, the Sixth Chief Justice of Upper Canada, and his wife Lady Hannah. More than 150 years later the 300-ton house was jacked up at its original site on Adelaide Street East, and moved to University Avenue over a period of six hours. In 1974 the carefully renovated Campbell House was officially opened to the Public by The Queen Mother.... more
