I took my family there for dinner and we all agreed that we would not return.
From serving a warm martini to over cooked and dry pasta, our entire dinning experience was terrible. The owner tried his best to correct their numerous mistakes but not enough to waste our time and money. I don't recommend this restaurant.
My husband and I have been coming here for about 22 years when we started dating. We haven't been here for about two to three years, we didn't want to go to the usual big franchise restaurants. Boring! So were thinking about what else is exciting in this town.... well low and behold an old favorite. The service was great,... more
We also had a dinner for 4 deal for $99. They did take credit card. The food was quite good, in fact better than expected. The owner allowed us the Filet Mignon because they ran out of the New York steak on their deal menu, also he allow us all the dessert choices because they did not have all the... more
We just had a wonderful dinner at this little cafe. They had a special menu for valentines and the highlight was the the homemade mousse au chocolate, to die for. Over many years we always enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Missing live music, but will be coming soon.
Me and my boyfriend bought a groupon for $52 for a three course meal. The food was mediocre at best, We ordered crisp calamari, escargot (which was greesy to my taste) for appetizers. Entrees were nothing special and what p@!%!d me off the most was the dessert which i ordered a crepe and it was literally served with a plain... more
My wife and I have been to the restaurant a few times but after we moved it has been over 5 years since we were last there. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the food still was.
Our waitress was excellent and when she brought the food to our table, it was still pipin' hot.
We definitely were full...

I don't know how best to describe my dinner at the Cafe. I left full but not gastronomically satisfied. I've never been to France so I don't know what traditional bistro food is like so I can't thoroughly compare. I had the arugula salad -- simple, salad, chèvre and salad dressing .... The salad wasn't dressed but the dressing was... more
A little remark about the area - Richmond Hill is about 50 kilometers from downtown Toronto, and there are no other French restaurants and cafes in the vicinity.
Naturally when we booked a table ( an online deal) we did not expect much, as we had an average ad below average experiences in the other restaurants at this area. Again...

A promotion on the computer for a "Fixed price, 3 course meal - Value $104.00 for $52.00.
The appetizer (escargot with mushrooms and blue cheese *) we found to be TOO Salty and Sandy and mentioned it to the server, when asked if everything was O.K.
* Note: This was recommended to us, however were told later that it was...

We decided to visit this Cafe on Saturday and we both thought it was fabulous. The interior was warm and very welcoming and reminded me of a wonderful bistro we often frequent in Montreal. We tried the blackboard special which was salmon with a mango glaze served on a cedar plank along with stuffed chicken with brie cheese, wild rice... more
We enjoyed our meal which was tasty - coquilles st. jacques, and seafood pancakes. The servings were generous and the vegetables cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is cozy with romantic French music as background. Our waitress did all she to could to accommodate my special diabetic needs.
There is also lots of parking at the back.
It was a cozy bistro in Richmond Hill, Team Buy was selling $19 for $50 food credit. There was auto charge 15% gratuity on the final bill. The menu was not as affordable as I expected, the portions were small. There was no bread to reserve; it was my 1st time ever. The owner was doing his multi tasks as... more
We just had dinner at the Café En Passant. It was awful! We ordered an appetizer and main course. The waitress brought the main course but not the appetizer. We asked whether the main course would be kept warm and she assured us it wold not. The appetizer (escargot) were so salty we could not eat them. We also had... more
My wife and two children had a terrific experience recently at Cafe en Passant, which is always the case when we go there. We have been loyal customers for a number of years and have never had a bad experience whatsoever. The food, hospitality and atmosphere is always top-notch and the easily accessible parking and restaurant location helps to make... more
Nowhere else in Richmond Hill offers a nice French/German cuisine like Cafe En Passant. My wife and I had a wonderful meal there last week and will be going back this week. The menu is varied..the prices are reasonable and the owner is very accomodating with "substitutions" from his normal menu (a rare thing these days). Their crepes are amazing... more
It is a small european restaurant located in the town centre of Richmond Hill.
When we came it was probably not the season, but it was just one table beside ours that was occupied. There was no background music, and NO atmosphere at all. It was quite uncomforable to whisper to each other's ear, as otherwise you had all the...

For a light meal, order the soup of the day, combine it with the house salad. Other items on the menu are equally as good. Parking out back helps.
Unlike the other reviewers on this site, I was quite disappointed with the food at Cafe en Passant. I ordered the Spanish Paella dish (a dish with seafood, chicken, and tomato rice) and the soup of the day, which was mushroom soup. The mushroom soup was quite salty and tasted like it contained MSG. (I was thirsty for several hours... more
Its a small quite restaurant with great food and good service. Definitely try it out!!
Tonight's Beef Tenderloin was good, with some wonderfully cooked mushrooms. The garlic mashed potatoes were also good, and the helpings of vegetables were large and fresh. It was a good sized portion, and very satisfying. My wife also liked her Filet of Sole with a great sauce, the same potatoes and vegetables. We've been there twice this year, and they... more
An older restaurant in the heart of "downtown" Richmond Hill. A romantic dinner is expected at this type of restaurant and decor and it is presently nicely. Not a cheap restaurant to eat at but the quality of the food and service is excellent. You will not be disappointed if you go here.
Cafe en Passant is a good restaurant which thinks it's a great restaurant, and that's a big part of the problem. It's a lovely quiet room with understated decor. We got a friendly welcome and were seated promptly. We ordered a half litre of white wine and the flask was promptly brought in an ice bucket -- but the wine... more
Food is well-priced and mains are served with a generous side of mixed veg and starch of your choice. My favorite is the Veal en Passant which is sliced veal in a creamy mushroom wine sauce. The style is French nouvelle cuisine with ingredients being fresh and crisp.
lovely food. quiet atmosphere.
This well-established restaurant in Richmond Hill is known for their charming ambiance, with tablecloths and fresh flowers on every table, adding European flair to the place. They are known for their steaks and pasta and affordable French cuisine. An outdoor patio is available in the warmer months.
