The name is really just a name. Some items are FAR more expensive than Whole foods. However it's clean and easy to find things.
Humble exterior that had me concerned over content and quality, but you'll be surprised at the variety of foods available here. I was very pleased with selection and prices. The store is always kept very clean and employees are informed, polite and always wearing a smile. I have yet to have a bad experience here.
I'm not a huge fan of the upkeep of the parking lot but then again, that's minor.
In early July 2015 I went back to the cashier to show her I'd been overcharged a bit for a product. She called her supervisor and I was refunded and given approximately $5 item free. I've been refunded the difference, after finding I'd been overcharged before there, but I guess they have a new policy. What a treat! Made my day:}
I recently moved closer to this spot and have come here a few times expecting nothing (it's a budget grocery store what's there to expect?) and was so pleasantly surprised each time. The employ a diverse staff and every interaction I had was just a bit more impressive than I could have anticipated. Staff walked me right to the item I was looking for, or had an immediate and accurate answer to a... more
Awesome selection of organic and value priced items. Fantastic staff and a convenient parking lot (although confusing to access). Can find a lot of things here you may struggle to otherwise, I urge you to explore. They offer delivery service for 5$ (free for seniors) also! Gets extremely busy around rush hour, and on Sundays.
I thought this was supposed to be a discount grocery store? Their produce, meat, and bread prices were on par with more upscale IGA. But the quality of the food at Buy Low seems much lower. I'll stick with IGA, or No Frills.
It should be called "Buy Low, Sell High."
Contrary to the low-budget impression that this fluorescent-lit, no-frills space might invite, this place is ridiculously expensive.
I used to like Buy-Low as an opt-out from the boutique grocery store trend. Lately, however, their prices have crept up so high that they are now more expensive than Whole Foods. Do they think that their customers don't...

This store has a really great selection, the checkout lines are short, and there is no fussing with loyalty cards. I will be very, very upset if this store ever closes. They stock many items that Save-On does not carry (eg. canned tomatillos). Great selection of valu priced and higher end products. The veggie display is gorgeous and typically fresh with local, seasonal options (eg. Fraser... more
Hello this is my first review on Yelp, I lived near this particular grocery store and that is really the only reason I shopped here fairly regularly for about 6 months. I won't ever shop here again though. Anyway ill get to it.
Pros
Nice staff
produce is alright
Prices are usually pretty reasonable, but by the tacky look of the place you would think it would be cheaper.
I never saw a rat!.. I...

Out of all my local grocery stores I think this one has to be my favourite. They have a great selection of alternative foods considering it's a fairly small grocery store. It's definitely not a high end grocery store (hello yellow décor!) but it is clean and well organized. Comparative to other grocery stores I think it's well priced too.
Looking pretty weathered but a good place for groceries. Prices are reasonable and there is lots of parking which is a plus. A-OK.
The staff here are very nice. They have a good selection of craft sodas, and enough organic junk for the hippies who've migrated from the Drive, and some good sales.
Some of the checkouts have Oskri Dark Chocolate Coconut bars, which are the greatest snack I have ever found in the world. I probably shop at Buy Low just for these orgasmic morsels. Buy Low, if you're listening, put them in EVERY...

Buy-Low foods. You'll get what you went there for and pay less than what you went there with, leaving you with more than you thought you'd have which is great considering what you went there to do, just buy groceries. It'll pick you up and never put you down, it'll make friends, bread, do the dishes and put sunscreen on your kids, it'll give you a single band aid if you can't afford a pack or... more
Not recommended. The meat dept might actually be UBC running a series of experiments. The last ground beef I bought there had liver in it (I know the smell of liver frying up- it haunted my childhood), the "chicken" there just looks stringy and wrong, and they actually sell that mechanically separated style meat that looks so revolting it nearly makes me toss my cookies just catching a glimpse... more
Buy-Low Foods is my second favorite anchor store in the Kingsgate Mall and my favorite parking lot in all of Vancouver. The staff here are exceptional, the stock is ordinary, and the parking lot is the best public patio in the city. Their grocery food prices are reasonable, on par with other mid-sized grocery retailers like the Save On and Safeway chains.
Many of their staff members are the...

This is the most inexpensive grocery store in the Mt. Pleasant area. I really hope this Kingsgate mall complex sticks around because I would cry a million tears if this place was torn down and turned into one of those "we only sell organic milk to get around the government price caps on food staples" fancy grocery stores.
So this isn't a glamorous place to shop for food but certainly it does the job. It's the store I go to the most frequently because it's a short walk from home and it covers the bases for my basic needs.
As other reviewers have noted, yes the produce is just ok (but there is a wide selection), same goes for all of its departments. But if you are looking for non-family pack meats, milk and some...

I am not much of a grocery shopper but from time to time I dip into whatever grocery store is nearby to get some hot peppers. This place has by far the best habanero peppers to date and they are fresh. I keep coming back here from the Dunbar area for these peppers and for the delightful service of the employee that works the first cashier outlet when you walk in. I can't remember her name but... more
A few years ago I wrote sketches for late night comedy show. It came on at 1130pm on a Sunday I think so it's unlikely you ever watched it. In what would turn out to be my writing and television acting debut, we needed a location to sub for the 1980's. The parking lot outside of the Buy-Low was chosen as the best option, because well, there aren't many old school locations in Vancouver that... more
Good location and offering. The staff are good, but are a little on the odd side.
Anyways, given their close location I love going there to get the little things.
Bigger, brighter, and better than the Fraser one, higher ceilings helps. Considered a mega-grocery store in its area.
Fresh deli and bakery so that's a bonus.
WHAT?! I haven't reviewed Buy-Low yet?
So, I decided not to participate in the cutthroat battle for the Dukedom of this fine grocery store that is currently raging between Trudi C. and Neil H., but despite that, it is the grocery store I visit most often in town. It's conveniently located in Kingsgate (aka Hellsgate, Skidsgate) Mall, where there is also a BC Liquor Store, a Shopper's Drug...

They are trying to sway us by blasting an approximation of "freshly baked bread" fragrance throughout the store. You will notice it as soon as you walk in and having seen the bread for sale I doubt very much that any baking is being done here. The scent will effect your brain if you are not prepared and you will find yourself heading toward cookies or cereal or some kind of food to put in your... more
The name just happens to be Buy-Low, I'm sure of it. Has anyone *reeeally* bought very low here? A bit of a misnomer, really... psshht, semantics. BUT in a strange little mall like Kingsgate, what more can a person expect?
So here we are, at Buy-Low. Again.
It's not that clean (though that may just be the fluorescent lighting that fools the eye to make everything and everyone appear to be...

I like Buy-Low. I advise against buying the meat there. I'm veggie, but I've seen it in carts and daaaam. They're pretty good for nearly everything else though, they always have sales, usually two of my favourite things, hummus and almond milk. Everything is easy to find, it's pretty clean in there. They've got okay produce, there's always someone around tending to it and I appreciate that.... more
Is it me or is grocery shopping more expensive in Vancouver? And where are the big deals on 'Buy 2 cans of beans, get the 3rd free!' (though I'm not sure whether you'd want beans ;). This could also be the reason why Britain has a growing obesity problem!
This place does do some offers though, but I still come out feeling like I lost a little too much money in there. There's no points or...

Produce selection is above average and in general prices are good. However the meats are well below average. I would stay away from buying any meat from here as I have had several bad experiences.
LifeSource Cran juice sold out after the yelp! review was posted! It's back on the shelves, for all you thirsty yelpers! I was stunned to see empty shelf space for my fave hit of cran. A quick word with the manager, and presto - after a few days, bottles of the deep red lush liquid perched, waiting for us.
Check out the ground buffalo in the meat department next time you visit. Yum!
I don't think the name matches up.. I come here if I have to, but I don't see any 'low' prices.. Nothing that compares to other places I go to anyway.
The good thing is that they have lots of Dan D Pak stuff, yes!
Buy low , sell high! Well this statement does not go with this Super market. I was a total snob of this place forever. The name and the bright yellow motif did not fit into my idea of what a supermarket should be, it kind of reminded me of Mcdonalds. But i have slowly cracked and have made this my local shopping place. Mainly because it is so utterly convenient to get to from my home. There is... more
Don't let the 1970s ghetto style fool you, this store has decent prices and they'll deliver your food for only $4.00!
The selection is varied, produce is cheap, the staff are kind and perhaps overworked, and it is a bit confusing to get into or out of, the first time you shop there.
OOps ! wrong store. Take the hand, palm towards forehead, and thwap!
I was thinking of another place altogether when I ended up at Buy-Low instead. (Kingsway, not Broadway -doh!)
This is not an impressive store. The prices are not low, the selection of goods are o.k. but the people who work here are quite nice and helpful. It's centrally located and therefor attracts a good crowd. It's kind of...

I have driven past Kingsgate Mall for years and never really had the desire to explore it. I'm not sure why exactly but I always thought that a Buy Low Foods was some scary discount grocery store that sold the cast offs of the food world. So, when the hubby and I recently bought our new home in Buy Lows hood, we thought it time to have a Buy Low experience...

Buy Low isn't the prettiest grocery store and it's a little hard to figure out how to get to. Enter on 10th rather than on Broadway. The grocery store feels rather industrial, not cozy and trendy, but don't let that stop you from shopping there. The prices are good and you'll probably find whatever you are looking for here. Buy Low has a great bulk section and lots of Dan-d-pak products.
