We come down from Peterborough where we have 4 Thai specific restaurants. It is well worth the drive to Port Hope. I wish they would open one in Peterborough. It could cause some serious concern for the other Thai restaurants in Peterborough and really make peterborough residents salivate.
We took a party of six without a reservation on a Saturday night and were lucky to get a table. Many others have found out about this little Thai restaurant on the main street in Port Hope.
If you're looking for the average "sweet and sour" served on rice, this is not the place to come. The extensive menu is...

We make regular trips to Port Hope just to go to this restaurant. The food is always tasty, fresh and very authentic. Sammy, the owner, is a little sweet fireball from Thailand and she knows how to a run a restaurant!
The lunch specials are particularly good value for the money but dinner is also very reasonably priced. The Mussman...

My daughter & I ate lunch here while visiting Port Hope on a theatre package mid June.
We overheard someone mention that they had a $9.99 lunch deal so decided to do that rather than have dinner there.
The restaurant is so exotic & beautiful & our server looked lovely in her long blue gown
which unfortunately I didn't take...

Thai food was excellent - large menu with many choices. Our waiter was patient and even brought extra curry chicken spring rolls so each of our party of 6 could try them. Chicken satay was good as an appetizer too. Mani courses were authentic and wonderful mixture of tastes from traditional pad thai to green curry to mango pineapple pork/shrimp.... more
I had lunch with a friend here yesterday it was excellent . The food was fresh hot and delicious. The server we had was Christian the best I have seen in a long time, you can tell he loves his job. The price of the dishes are very reasonable and worth ever penny. I look forward to the next time... more
Fresh, hot food served in an authentic feeling Thai environment, complete with Thai music. The dishes were delicious and the portions very generous.
We had a fantastic meal here. We shared the mango salad and then soup followed by our entrees. Everything was delicious and the service was very, very good. Highly recommended!
Enjoy the Thai dishes a lot. For a small town this restaurant has the better selection of ethnic foods.
I am visit to Port hope today. have dinner at Bualai taste of Thai. I got pad Thai .this pad Thai I thing this pad Thai is the best in Town. before never get taste like Thai pad Thai at any where . and I have a spicy pork. excellent is spicy and hot pork is well done .taste like... more
Maybe the chef changes at lunch, but the difference in food is noticeable. My husband and I have frequented this restaurant since it opened a few years ago. The decor is beautiful, you really feel as if you are in Thailand. However the same cannot be said of the food. Prices are good but the quality of the food changes from lunch... more
Absolutely amazing. Been here twice and ordered different things both times and not at all disappointed. Mango salad is amazing, so fresh and flavorful and very large for an appetizer.
Pad Thai is superb as is the veggie stir fry. Spring rolls were a huge hit with my friends.
Service is great, food is served very fast. Servers are nice...

Have had dinner here (eat-in) many times and I've never had a bad experience. Sammy, the owner is an excellent hostess. She greets EVERYONE with a warm friendly smile, not just her friends and regulars, like so many other local restaurants. Once she was understaffed so service was very slow, but Sammy acknowledged and apologized for this and gave us... more
Since we have had kids most of our visits to Bulai have been for take-out. The food is consistent and always outstanding. They are very receptive to special orders (ie. pad thai w/out egg). Amazing and flavourful food!
I used to really enjoy this restaurant but over the last few months it has gone downhill. The last 3 orders were very disappointing:
1) Ordered take out 30 minutes ahead, had to wait an additional 40 minutes once I arrived because they lost my order. No apologies or discount.
2) Ordered Veggie Pad Thai, went to pick it up...

I have never been disappointed no matter what I have ordered, however my favorite is the green curry! Yum!
Best restaurant of it's kind and in the price range in Northumberland County. Food, service and decor are all excellent and authentic. You cannot go wrong here.
Love original and traditional Thai food, great service, great taste. The Pad Thai is wonderful and the Mussman chicken is also great
This restaurant has authentic Thai food and it is absolutely delicious! I like the fact you can ask the chef to prepare your food to taste...spicy if you want
Had dinner there last night.. it was a slow night for them but the food was great as always. Take out is fantastic !
I have eaten at the Bowmanville location several times since they opened and it has been absolutely amazing every time. We order tonight so looking forward to the same experience(November 10) and we were greatly dissatisfied! So bad I am turned off and will never eat there again which is such a shame because before tonight it was the best... more
Ordered the crispy beef dish extra spicy. It was very good as was my wife's peanut chicken. The only negative comment was of the slow service. It was 20 min before we saw our vegetable spring rolls (app; also great) and then another 20 for the main course. We found this a bit excessive considering we were initially the only... more
My husband and i love this restaurant! The food is always fresh, hot and good portions. Lots of variety for vegetarians. The owner Sammy is a real sweetheart, and the staff are helpful and pleasant, we are fortunate to have this restaurant in our town!!
I've been here a few times and yes the service can be slow at times but the food is worth the wait i enjoy the food every time i go. i have also sent many people here and have never gotten bad feed back about the food. Decor is a little strange but to me that doesn't matter when the... more
The only negative was the flies ( not that many but annoying ). It was a hot day so the door was open. A screen door would solve this problem. Otherwise a very nice lunch. Betty Ellery.
This is the best Thai food I have ever had (and I have tried a lot of places). The owner is from Thailand and her food proves it. Service is great and staff are very friendly. We are so happy that there is now take-out in Bowmanville, so we can enjoy it more often!
This was a great little thai place to eat that really loves their guests. The food was interesting and tasty, and had great value. The decor was a little off the wall, and obviously done themselves, but it kind of added to the entire eating experience.
It doesn't look like much from outside, but its worth trying out.
Delicious food, but the worst service ever. They did not give us menus, and took our drink orders. Waited 30 minutes for drinks, then had to get up and get our own menus. Then we ordered vegetable spring rolls and they brought chicken springrolls 3 times. Worst thing was that our waiter wouldn't even address the problem. We had to... more
Big family dinner party. Buffet style dishes for all. Food was OK, nothing great. I've had Thai food in quite a few places and thought this place was missing a few key ingredients for the true taste in the dishes I tried. Namely basil and sweet chilies. Portions were good though and the ability to supply some guests with Vegetarian... more
My family recently tried Bulai and we were all pleasantly surprised.
I look forward to trying it again soon.
Having just moved from Toronto I really miss all the food options that were available, and am delighted that Bowmanville has a Thai restaurant on par with anything the city offers.
The food was very good, reasonably priced, and portions were...

Don't go anywhere near Port Hope without visiting this restaurant. Best Thai food east of Toronto. Very authentic, delicious food and decor. Charming atmosphere and great service. We are regular customers and have never been disappointed. The 1/2 hour drive for us to get there is always worth it. Prices are very reasonable. Say hi to Sammy, the owner....she is... more
Very nice staff and great service, Food was delicious
The Bowmanville location (only take out) is an excellent diversion from Bualai's Port Hope location. I love the food, but the service needs more work!!...long waits (even when I've phoned in advance) and they never seem to know if a customer has paid for their food or not, but I think this is lack of experience driven. I hope it... more
I ordered from the new 'takeout only' location 9 King St East in Bowmanville. I found the pricing to be quite high compared to other Thai restaurants in Toronto and Oshawa, but decided to give it a try. I ordered: #1 spring roll, #14 mango salad, #43 tamarind fish, #54 peanut chicken, #151 Chicken glass noodle. Myself and family were... more
My family and I took my Mom to Bualai Taste of Thai to celebrate Mother's Day. Mom is a vegetarian and found many delicious dishes to choose from. The servers were attentive and polite.

My husband and I absolutely loved this restaurant! We have only tried Thai food once and decided to give this restaurant a try, we were not disappointed! We've eaten here a couple of times. Not great service the last time as it was slow. But this time service great and food very good except for the pad Thai it was a little sticky. But overall I would definitely recommend it. If you are going to eat there before going to the theater though give yourself some extra... more
Our party of four arrived at 6 p.m. on a Friday night. My wife and I are regular customers. The restaurant was busy but not crowded. It is a small dining room with lavish, authentic Thai decorations, so I wouldn't take a large party unless you call ahead and make arrangements. The wait staff are young, attentive, and very friendly.... more
This was our first time visiting the restaurant. Loved it, the food was excellent. We had Lemongrass soup, Mango chicken and Chicken Pad Thai. Absolutely delicious, very flavorful sauces, with lots of chicken in each dish. Great size portions also. Service was wonderful and friendly. Wonderful decor, very ambient and authentic. Would highly recommend this restaurant. This is a reason... more
Service - Very efficient and accommodating with a baby.
Food - Good value. Ordered peanut chicken and it came with a side of rice and spring roll and lemon grass soup starter. Good quality food. Soup and chicken both had lots of heat.
Atmosphere - beautiful, colourful - artwork, wood pieces and table linens.
Awesome service and the food is fantastic, never dissapointed... one of the most extensive menues I have ever seen. Must try's: coconut soup, clear lemongrass veggie soup, spring rolls, thai baskets, calamari with sweet chillie dipping sauce, crispy chicken, basil chicken and the curry dishes are out of this world. Be back soo Sammy!! Paul, Newcastle
I go to this restaurant as often as I can. The food is prepared perfectly, the atmosphere is great and the owner, Sammy, is delightful. This is the best Thai around
Love the spring rolls, mango salad, coconut soup and so much more. Some of my girl friends and I often visit this restaurant. We order a variety of dishes and share everything so that we can try more things. The flavours are soooo good. There hasn't been a dish we haven't loved. Worth the visit. We usually go during a... more
Fantastic cold spring rolls and really like the atmosphere. The mango salad was a bit on the overkill, but otherwise it was excellent!
