Good food; lively atmosphere. Would be nice to have the music at a level where conversations can be heard, though.
As with all their locations, this Broken Plate in Kensington lives up to the reputation of fun and good food. In fact, being in Kensington might make this particular one just a bit more lively and a place for a great evening of fun. The menu has choices for everyone and the kitchen does a superb job. Rather on the noisy side, so don't go there if you are looking for a quiet romantic mood. This place is for a rockin' good time.
I just got back from dining here tonight, and I always leave this place with a smile on my face. The staff are so energetic and really enjoy what they do, and they have fun with celebrations too! Food, of course, was fantastic. I love Greek food and they do it well.
This place is fantastic, they always have such good food and it's always consistently good. The only problem is trying to find out what to eat! Get the same thing you always get, or try something new? You won't be disappointed either way. Opa!! They just need to bring the Kleftico back after removing it from their menu. Tch tch.
Fresh and contemporary in both the food and decor (it's not just white and blue!), Broken Plate delivers consistently... more
I was not at all impressed. I grew up around greek food my entire life and this was a joke! I can tell that the prices.... I went twice, had a female and a male waitor on different occasions and found them to be quite sloppy. I don't enjoy a meal when the waitor can't handle the stress. I asked the girl on two occasions for another glass of wine and she kept forgetting! The second time I went... more
good wait staff, nice ambiance, good food but expensive and I think you could get as good, if not better food at a better price at Santorini's on Centre St.The bread was less than impressive, and everything else we (party of 4) had was as to be expected.
Went to the Broken Plate in Kensington for a friends birthday a couple of weeks ago and had a blast. The atmosphere was very upbeat, lots of dancing and plate breaking. The service was pretty good and the food was amazing, cant wait to go there again for my birthday.
The Broken plate was highly recommend to my by a girlfriend. So I went with high hopes that it would deliver on my expectations. Unfortunately, the flavors were not there. The flaming cheese starter was such a let down. It congealed after a few mins and it was so difficult to eat. The waiter forced us to get calamari (he really did, we didn’t even order it), it was okay but it was really oily.... more
I've eaten at many Greek restaurants but this is by far my favorite!
Great food. Service is a little slow, but it;s worth it in the end. Plus smashing plates and yelling "OPA!" is one of the most satisfying things ever.
I have never had a bad dining experience at the Broken Plate. their food is great, the staff is always very friendly, and it is such a great atmosphere! I admit that I'm a huge sucker for their sangria and the paidakia. I have been here several times, and will be back for several more!
went here a few years back, never again over priced i guess some people get a kick out of breaking a plate but please..... thats why the menu is so expensive they are adding the price of all the broken plates at the customers expense, what a waste.....i just want a quiet place to eat good food and not pay a fortune so i guess this place is out.lol
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Calgary. Great service...great food. I always have a good night out or lunch when I eat there.
We went there for my father in laws birthday and I felt it was WAY too expensive for what we got. I would go to Santorini's any day instead of the B. Plate. We went to the Aspen B. Plate a couple of weeks ago and that was delicious and well worth it but the Kensington location was not that great. I give the Kensington Broken Plate a thumbs down for sure.
Went to the Aspen location, terrible experience. Our waiter got so drunk that he couldn't even process our credit card. He charged us for over $500 worth of shooters we thought he was buying. Then he left the resturant and urinated out front of the resturant and got in his car and drove home, WASTED! We will never go back.
Over priced, had better Greek food for half the price
Broken Plate prides itself with consistent quality of Greek food. I wouldn't say that the food was amazing. It was just like any other chained restaurant. Probably good enough to open up more than one restaurant but not good enough to impress a Greek friend. The selection of food for Vegetarians is very poor, out of the menu, I think I could only select one main dish and the dish was not vegan... more
Went to Broken Plate for lunch - very nice atmosphere, busy but not noisy. We ordered a Scallop app and it was delicious. The wine was great too. The main course was the Lemon Basa - served on Rice with a small Greek Salad - fantastic taste. Portion was just right, the fish was light and very tasty. Service was great as well, attentive but not pushy. Very friendly with good suggestions on the... more
Good service/ food but a little of priced for the portion size you get
We had a great time here... I agree with others that the "breaking plate" thing can get a tad much at times but it's still entertaining. The food was pretty good, price is a bit high but the service makes up for that I find. Will definitely go again!
We spontaneously decided to check this place out while walking around Kensington. It was packed at 8:30 pm on a Saturday night, but we were able to get a table for two without a reservation. The atmosphere is nice. The breaking plates and shouting servers scared the c@!p out of us but gave us a good laugh. I mean, the place is called BROKEN PLATE....The menu items are a bit pricey, especially... more
i like it, especially on a Friday or Saturday, the entertainment makes it worth the while :)the price is alright, the food is goodbut i did notice recently they changes their menu.i liked the pasta they had before... the new ones not as cheesy... more
Even though the atmosphere was really nice and the service was good. I was rather disappointed by the portion of the food I received compared to the expensive price. The food tasted good, but the style of food seemed less Greek and more westernized style then other authentic Greek restaurants I have eaten at. The price really was not worth the type of food I got. If anything the price would... more
Noisy. If smashing plates into a corner and shouting waiters is your thing, then this is probably the place to be. If not, go somewhere else.
very nice place to go on a saturday night ive been here a couple times its small and the decor i gotta say is greeek and its classy , and the best thing about this restaurant i gotta say is the customer service the servers are trained to show you greek food and they know hot to show it well , i like how they break the plates and dance and i love the flambave they do with the cheeze !!! its good... more
The portion sizes were substantial but not exaggerated. It was good food edging on great and many things were above average; on-par with what you'd expect from this type of restaurant.
This place was simply amazing Went on word of mouth and have nothing but great things to say
