Had a company party here and eventhing was satisfactory
Hotel is tired and badly needing improvements. Should not be included in Unique Country Inns Grouping as it does a disservice to the other outstanding properties in this listing.
Bed was way too hard. fffffffffffffffffffffiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
No elevator. rooms need updating.beds need better mattresses.Hopefully the pulp mill will resolve toxic smell which depending on the wind direction can get pretty foul.
Stayed here one night then returned a few nights later. It's old but a good value. Have dinner down on the water near the tall ship. Only $ 21 for a lobster dinner and it was good.
The room was comfortable, the continental breakfast was good....loved the freshly baked bread. This place had the feel of a bed and breakfast and we loved the fact that the windows opened...dislike the fact we had to climb stairs to our room... We thought when we opened the windows we would get the smell of salt air! But there was some really strong sewage odor coming from outside the... more
We were attending a wedding at Pictou Lodge. Arrived at Braeside and was pleasantly surprised. Older hotel with all the extra's. Hotel was something you would read about in a novel. Unique. The staff made our stay pleasant and answered any questions we had. Made our stay very comfortable. Only thing was no elevator.
I wish we had been able to stay another night to experience breakfast in the dining room. Lovely, charming atmosphere.
This place is a nice little Inn with clean, comfortable rooms and very pleasant staff. Our greeting was very warm and kind and very accommodating!
had just a one nite stay in pictou after riding the ferry from PEI on way to Cape Breton Island. Sweet hotel. Good Value for the price.
The Inn had a lot of charm. It is an older home but well maintained. Not luxurious but very homey. I have no complaints about the Inn.
A very pleasant stay for my wife & I. The room was adequate and we especially enjoyed the friendly and helpful interaction with hotel staff.
The staff were very accommodating, and very friendly. We were going to be getting in late at night, and they didn't have 24hr front desk staff, but they made sure everything would work out for us, and that we'd still have access. Very unique place to stay, enjoyed it.
We had no accommodation booked in advance and decided to stay at The Braeside Inn as we had looked at the website before when we were doing our research for our first visit to NS. We were given a couple of rooms to look at before making our choice and both were nice and clean and reasonably sized. The owners of the hotel, who were English, were really friendly and helpful.

This Inn has nice old style charm in the dining room and downstairs sitting room, but the rooms and bathrooms are very old style. The bathroom was almost to the point of unacceptalbe, no plug ins for a razor or hair appliances. In my opinion it was more like a room that should have been $60.00 and being charged over $100.00. I was not impressed at all, not even a coffee maker in my room. The... more
Love this place, cozy, good location and worth the money.
The restaurant was closed and no elevator service. Rooms were good and clean.
Very nice hosts. Rooms are well decorated and the bed and bedding outstanding. Breakfast was very good and our sever was entertaining. Thank you for a great night stay.
Kept in a very Nice old style. Very friendly people.

Everything were great.

Our room was clean but basic. The overall hotel was a beautiful historic space with a great breakfast. The owners were also accommodating about our late arrival.
Proprietors were very helpful
Good position
Breakfast good
Good Laundry facilities

Pictou was a bit limited in what it offered
A very good value close to the wharf with very pleasant and helpful innkeepers.
Quite comfortable. Great location and very walkable within town. Nice continental breakfast with friendly staff.
The rooms were comfortable and the hosts friendly and efficient. Breakfast was good and the service was very good.

Also management was excellent. Charming and warm establishment.

Lovely eclectic furnishings make for and interesting environment. Great staff, good food, personable hosts. Pleasantly unpretentious.
the entire experience was very good, the atmosphere of the inn was like going into another era, the dining room and the sitting room were extremely inn quality, so homey and comfortable

the 22 steps to the 1st floor room, I swear it seemed that little elves came by at night and added another step.
Food was excellent as was the service. Waitress was friendly and efficient. We had a table by the window overlooking the harbour. No need to go elsewhere to eat.
A wonderfully comfortable and homey place. Decor was outstanding- felt like a trip back in time. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the very generous breakfast, and our dinners at night were delicious. Despite no soundproofing, all was quiet after 10; very restful.
room was quiet, restful and having guest laundry was a definite plus. We enjoyed the meals and the hosts were gracious and very accomodating for needs, question re: local information or anything else. The dining room is a historical delight

we were "young" enough to take the stairs to our rooms, might be a bit of a challenge for folks less mobile - worth the trip up though

The nicest owners you could ever hope to meet! Helpful, accommodating, entertaining and more.
We asked for a quiet room and we got a corner room on the top floor. It was lovely. Dated....yes...but clean, friendly, and enjoyable.
The dining room looks enchanting. We missed its opening by one day but we did get breakfast the day we left.

Couldn't have asked for better, more personalized service and pampering particularly when the Inn was just opening for the season! Very much enjoyed the experience and want to visit again
What a beautiful place. Unfortunately I did not stay overnight but encountered dining at its best. A very lovely place to go with out of town friends. They would be impressed. The owners are wonderful people and make your time spent there very special,.
Our last meal at this establishment, which should be very fine, was a disaster. Our group of 12 were demanded to pay 15% gratuity after grumpy service, our son receiving his meal way after everyone else, and waiting on frozen cheese cake dessert to defrost. Well these things can happen but, really, the waitress was a complete grump? Why? We... more
Friendliness of owners.excellant evening meal. Nearness to harbour.
Historical charm. Very accomodating. Nice breakfast spread. Excellent coffee!
The friendliness of the reception,we were given good advice which
allowed us to discover a beautiful beach, breakfast was ok and the coffee
better than in other places

The room was small,a bit dusty and I had the impression that it
hadn'tbeen used for a long time, the bed was rather short too
The dinner was delicious and the value for that meal was excellent. The staff was wonderful!

I would have liked to have seen them use some in season local produce in the menu.

we had what they call a single room which is a double bed (a double room has two beds) and it was really small and really really really dated. ok for one night, we had to catch the ferry the next morning, but otherwise no thanks. place needs a serious facelift
the rooms were clean and huge the food was amazing the best meal i had down east
The hotel has a lot of charm - a very interesting old inn
\n\n
Our room was very small - the continental breakfast was very sparse -
although the coffee and the lady that served it were excellent
Unique charm. The grounds and garden overlook the bay. The Inn is within walking distance to downtown, the wharf and art centre.
The food was great. The service was great (they even drove us home when it started to rain as we had walked down) The ambiance leaves a bit to be desired. Very quiet and the organ music in the background made me fee like I was 100.
very nice comfortable inn close to a lot of interesting places and a very good resturant ,the oweners were very accomadating
Nice hosts, lovely old house, complimentary breakfast, use of computer, helpful staff

paper mill and its output could be seen over the inlet
The inn is in a good location. Welcome was warm and hotel has interesting furniture with good public rooms. The restaurant served substantial portions well cooked and we ate there both nights. The bedroom had a king size bed and was fine..
A group stayed at the Inn in March 2012 and we were WOW'ed by the owners. There was fresh everything available all day during our meeting and after super - which was also AWESOME we were able to take a wonderful stroll along the waterfront. Upon arrival back to the Inn we had a great get together in the social... more
This cozy Inn has all the comforts of home with a touch of class. The rooms have beautiful beds , dressers ,and desks of rich dark wood. Many of the bathrooms still retain their old pink and black tiles and are spotlessly clean. The calming pinks and whites of the lounge and dinning room leads you back in time to when life was slow and easy. Flowers and wildlife adorn the walls giving nature... more
The hotel seemed to be located in a somewhat noisy(cars racing) area, and was sometimes downwind from smoke from a pulp mill across the bay. Friendly reception and good service and food. 3 Stars seems about right. jm
Good overnight hotel Short walk to Fisheries Museum and Lobster Hatchery and warf area Lovely dining room with very good food Best sea food chowder ever
we had a small room,,,was so small you couldt move,,,couldnt take a shower,,,water was yellow,,wall paper falling off the walls,,,across the water,,thick smoke that stank badly,,,,i had bathrooms bigger,,,,,ws not impressed,,,and would not recommend,,or stay there again!!
Takes you back in time with the older style looks and lighting.Very well kept and very nice people.Only way to your room is by stairs, but it is a charming spot sat on top a hill will a view of the water. The food is GREAT.
The Braeside Inn has got fantasic food and a very comfortable setting to dine in.I have eaten here a few times and always have had wonderful service and excellent food.
A/C was so noisy it kept us awake most of the night, no coffee in the room and no frig. Overpriced for services provided.
Loved the location on this hotel. We arrived just as the lobster festival was ending. We were able to walk to the outdoor stage but could also hear all the performers from the hotel if we had wanted to. Great restaurants were within easy walking distance as was the Fisherman's Museum and the Hector Museum (a must see in Pictou)! Check-in was easy. We think it was the owners who were at the... more
The people were nice and informative. However, it was disappointing to not have restaurant available. The room was smaller than expected. The bathroom was cramped.
WE checked in after touring the Scottish heritage town of Pictou, where this hotel was recommended as the best for dinner in town. As we had already made reservation for dinner, this was great news. The dinner was as described, Great! WE had pan-fried Halibut and the special, Seafood Wellington, accompanied by lovely sauteed vegetables. The room had a beautiful view of Pictou harbor and a... more
Our B&B owner recommended it. It was a rainy night and close to the B&B so we (3 couples) went. None of us thought the food was particularly good and it was overpriced for the quality.
Being originally from Pictou and having been "away" now for almost forty years, I must say that I was disappointed in the Inn when I stayed there last year with a girlfriend of mine. It had always had the reputation all the years of my growing up that it was "THE ' place to stay or to go for a... more
