Tucked into an innocuous, petite strip mall just off the 124th Street stroll is this absolute gem of a restaurant that simply has to be one of the best in the country. A small room in muted gray and blue tones, the Blue Pear is the brainchild of a food-obsessed husband-and-wife team. He's the chef; she handles the hospitality. It's a perfect partnership: Over the course of a five-course meal,... more
We read that The Blue Pear was closing its doors forever so we wanted to sample it at least once. Our reservation was for Friday Dec. 21, 2012. It was a cold night and parking was nonexistant having to compete with the nail salon next door. The setting was cosy and intimate but everytime the doors opened a rush of frigid air surged in around our feet making it quite uncomfortable. Our server was... more
While I enjoyed the experience at the soon-to-be-closed Blue Pear I was a little disappointed with the food. Everything was perfectly cooked but nothing stood out as original or particularly flavourful. From the beef tartar plate to the chicken to the flourless chocolate cake everything was well-presented and the service was excellent, but the food itself left something to be desired. Wish the... more
The Blue Pear stands as a powerful force against a depressing decline in both health and food in our society. Every dish reflects an impressive level of creativity and polished, professional chefing. Their commitment to use only fresh, local, responsibly-grown product pays off in flavours as well as the satisfaction of eating sustainably and supporting responsible farmers. Prices are higher... more
This has always been one our favorite restaurants in the city. We were sorry to hear that it may be no more, since the current owners are selling. Was Always a gem!
We are very sorry to see that the Blue Pear is closing its doors. We have enjoyed bringing many of our friends to this unique restaurant in Edmonton over the years. Dining at the Blue Pear is like nowhere else we have ever experienced. You truly enjoy each of the three courses served. You never feel like you are being rushed. The wine paring with each course is perfectly matched to the type of... more
My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner on December 7th. This is a very small restaurant with only 11 tables. The food was ok... They paired some different ingredients to make some unique dishes, which is great. But most dishes nothing special and were lacking flavor! The service was just ok. When we were first seated, we sat for about 20 minutes before anyone even came to bring... more
Pricey - waiters did not come to ask how the meal was! - we probably would have not chosen but we had a gift certificate
This was our first dining experience @ Blue Pear.My husband and I each had 5 course meal in which most of the dishes had an excellent presentation and lots of flavour. I did not enjoy as much beef tartar and milk fed veal, thought that after outstanding appetizers they were missing something. Foie Gras, Ahi Tuna appetizer, quail, escargot, soup of the night-excellent, excellent,... more
The service was very good. We selected the 5 course meal and were totally stuffed as we start our entree and had to take doggie bags home. The service noticed and asked if we were stuffed if we would like to forego the dessert selection and she would just delete the cost from our bill. Excellent idea. I would suggest having the three course meal but then you'd miss out on the soup which was one... more
Quite simply, The Blue Pear is NOT worth the drastically inflated prices they charge. Just skip it.
I found the service to be a little over-eager and "in your face," and the decor was a little strange. (The restaurant is one small square room, in a strip mall in a random location).
But it was when I saw the prices...

Excellent meal and fantastic service! It was our first time at Blue Pear and it was a wonderful night.
I would return to this restaurant for fine dining. It is very personable, relaxed and quiet- with limited seating capacity(as it seats only about 30-40 people). With that size of room, you know that the food is going to be of good quality and prepared with extra care.
We went for the 5 course meal with the wine pairings. All the courses were very good. The soup, a mushroom and bean broth soup with tofu foam and cubes was the best that we ever had. The appetizer of frog leg rice and tuna was outstanding. The mains were very good, poached halibut and the roasted chicken. The desserts,... more
What a great atmosphere, the server was amzing, food was to die for, try the kangaroo appy, will definately coem back here again.
We Have gone to the restaurant on more than one occasion but it has failed to live up to the glowing reviews it has received. While the decore may have been seen as cosy and intimate by some, it appeared a bit worn and definitely dated to us. The service was friendly but failed to in a couple of particulars.... more
I had postponed going to this restaurant for some time as I had heard it was difficult to get a reservation. Finally went this week.
Food and service both excellent. Would definitely go again.
My husband and I had a gift certificate for this restaurant. It is a business casual dress code but some people were there in jeans. The decor is very bland so hard to say it has any ambiance. My husband had the five course meal with the wine pairings. He enjoyed all of his meal except for the bit of... more
Had a marvelous 3 course meal - fantastic flavours, nicely paced. Waitress could have known more detail about the menu, but overall a wonderful experience. This is a special occasion restaurant as it's pricey, but soooo good!
After hearing about this restaurant a couple of years ago and reading about its Honourable Mention as a top three restaurant in Avenue Magazine (avenueedmonton.com/articles/best-rest..., my wife and I decided to check it out. After finding parking at the side entrance of what appeared to be some kind of quasi walk-up apartment / strip mall hybrid, we rang the doorbell... more
At The Blue Pear there are a number of things you can count on: excellent food; fine service and pleasant surroundings.
If you are into a full coarse meal with great service and wine this is the place to go but make sure you book ahead of time.
Loved the food :)
Can't comment about the price cause it was free (drug rep dinner), then again, free food always tastes extra good ;)
This is one of the smaller restaurants I have been to in a long time but it is a real gem! I think at max they could seat 40 people but there were plenty of servers so everyone got lots of care and the atmosphere is very charming and classy. We were greeted at the door by the host --... more
With my wife and another couple we had a fabuous experience. The Blue Pear offers (as well as other choices) a 5 course meal with optional wine pairing which all 4 of us chose. All of the dishes which we selected were fabulous and presented with care, the wines paired well and the service impeccable. The timing of service was... more
We went with our family of 4 for my husband's birthday. Half of us chose the 3 course menu and half chose the 5 course menu. My husband and I opted for the 3 wine parings although you can get a 5 wine paring with the 5 course menu. The autumn harvest soup was very tasty made with local produce.... more
We have heard good things about this restaurant from some friends, so decided to try it out. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall, in an unusual location of town, across the street from a pawn shop! Unless you specifically go there for the restaurant, you would miss it driving by. You have to ring a door bell... more
My trout and my companion's stuffed pork were both overcooked and therefore dry, chewy, flavorless. In fact the whole presentation from starters to desserts seemed to lack attention or care from the kitchen. Service was fast, friendly, and vigilant. Diner at the next table had a smartphone problem. Can staff direct dinners to check their phones at door? Wine was... more
We normally go to the Blue Pear a couple of times a year for a special occasion however this last time the menu was really poor and the portions were small. The service was poor at best with the waitress quite unhappy to be there. Over the years the price has crept up and now it is way too expensive... more
Although the service is not friendly but almost arrogant the staff is well trained. The restaurant and its atmosphere is very, very special, but I liked it. If the staff improved next time I will give 5 points.
We had never been to the Blue Pear, so when we decided to try it during Fork Fest, I was looking forward to our first visit. Unfortunately, it was terribly disappointing, in the service, food and ambiance. I would hardly call the decor romantic or private with the tables placed too close together and the lighting too bright. If there... more
This was our second meal at the Blue Pear--after last night, we will not come again. Weeks ago, when I made the reservation , I indicated that one of our group could only eat low-fat dishes. No problem. Except, there was only one item on the menu that was low-fat and no adaptations could be made to any other dishes.... more
My husband and I dined at this local on a random evening not expecting much. The parking lot is small but free parking and there's also side street parking. The signage is on a busy street so, it is easily missed when trying to find. We drove around the block and asked someone waalking for directions and I tend to... more
This is a superb higher end restaurant .The seating is for about a dozen tables,so it would be considered a smaller restaurant. which requires reservations. The food was very tasty and the desert was extremely good. The menu did not have a big selection to choose from.Apparently ,one person we were with said the small menu changes monthly so there is some... more
It is great to see the Blue Pear is changing with the times. I love having the option to go for the all-out splurge of the 5 course menu and also have the 3 course at a very reasonable price as well as offering a-la-carte any day of the week now. The portion sizes are now larger and I feel... more
certainly not the best edmonton has to offer. we tried Blue Pear thinking that it would at least measure up to some other fine dining restaurants in the city but were sadly disappointed. salt seemed to be the answer to the lack of any real flavour in most of the food and the inability to cook even a simple steak... more
This is truly a 5 star restaurant. A mandatory $49 - $89 per person menu, but that includes 3 appetizers, a main course, desert, and usually a special little something from the kitchen.
The food is outrageously good and right off Iron Chef in it's presentation. The menu changes each month, and this destination would be mostly a once a...

There are two menus, the three course or the five course. Single course meals are not an option. "Salads" are stunningly small, consisting of four items on a tiny plate. A three course meal is barely enough to satisfy. I'm no stranger to "ritzy" food, but here I was continually unimpressed. The tastes I remember are bitterness and burned. The... more
This restaurant is amazing. Their specialty is pairing wine with your food. We had a wonderful 5 course meal with a different wine paired for each course.
Started with a sparkling wine to clear the pallet. Then a choice of appetizer with a wine to match. Next came a very interesting soup. After that a salad. Both soup and salad...

My boyfriend took me to the Blue Pear for Valentine's day. It was my first experience with fine dining which is perhaps why is far surpassed my expectations. Everything was delicious, created, cooked, and presented perfectly. It is a little on the pricey side, however I do not feel that we overpaid for the experience. However, the cost of our... more
One of the three best "higher end" restaurants in Edmonton offering a fixed price 5 course menu in a minimally appointed room. The price has been going up steadily to the point that it no longer compares favourably with top end restaurants in Vancouver, probably due to the higher cost of quality ingredients in Edmonton.
We really enjoyed having our anniversary dinner at The Blue Pear. It is a set menu of five courses, where you pick your appetizer, entree and dessert. And then the soup and cheese plate are also given. All the courses were absolutely delicious, and used the freshest of ingredients. The Pink Martini I had was one of the best Martinis... more
Excellent food, charming atmosphere.
fabulous! highly recommended
Awesome. Highly recommended.
Wow. If you like different, flavorful food, this is the place. This isn't for the meat and potato crowd. These people are passionate about food and it shows in the service, presentation, variety and quality. If you can afford it, do the wine pairings. We are planning our next visit.
Good food, but overrated, and pretty zero atmosphere.
Very creative dishes, eclectic mix of different ingredients
Fantastic, but crazy expensive.
The Blue Pear has nice 5 course meals. Reservations are a must.
This is not a restraunt you just walk into. No, you book a week or more in advance and they buzz you in upon your arrival.
The food is outstanding.
I love food for what it is and this is a creatively exciting experiance. Add the perfectly selected wine parring to your meal and settle into a little piece of...

Amazing, amazing, amazing...
You must try this place. When we first saw the building, we thought "WHAT???"; it's a bit shabby to say the least and in a strange location. We were seated and felt a bit intimidated by the hushed atmosphere and small room. I think we are so used to noisy, crowded restaurants and bars that we're taken aback when it's quiet! Our group ordered different dishes...

Quelle belle surprise!!!
What a wonderful experience! Even in the best restaurant, there is usually clatter and chatter - not here! At first we were intimated by the quiet atmosphere, but soon relaxed and enjoyed the best (so far) dining experience ever!
This is one of the best meals that we have had in a long time. The service was excellent even though all the tables were full and only 2 people serving! A great evening and we will go back
Fine dining, evenings only, open @ 5 pm ( Wed -Sun )Multi course prefixed menu with choices for Appetizers, mains and desserts.Everyone receives the same soup and salad.Menu changes every 4 - 6 weeks.Wine available by the glass, bottle, or one of 3 different wine pairings.
Dine at the Blue Pear Restaurant, a chic restaurant decked up in white canopies and beautiful paintings that promises to make your culinary experience a delightful one. From their delicious French entrees, deserts to fine wines, this place attracts many patrons. You can also catch here occasional live performances and jazz events.
The Blue Pear specializes in set menus. The cooking is globally-inspired, and meals are five course forays into haute cuisine. The menu changes monthly, but you may find appetizers such as a black bean cake with goat cheese and heritage tomato salsa, grilled bison tongue with eggplant relish and confit garlic yogurt, or seared scallop with spicy savoy cabbage. Main course options might include... more
