Not great food, poor decor, and over priced. It looks trashy and dirty, and I think the owner is stressed and hates criticism.
We stopped off at Port Alberni for a road trip lunch, walked once around the quay and settled on the Blue Door for first class omelette and coffee. Nothing clever, but good to watch the food being cooked up in front of us, great to see such a squeaky-clean washroom, and a pleasure to be served by ladies who combined... more
We just needed to quickly grab some takeout and the train conductor had directed us to this cute little cafe. Two lovely women greeted us as we placed an order for takeout. The fries were pretty greasy but hey, they are fries...what do you expect?!
Next time we're in town we'll stop in for a proper sit down meal.
Fresh quality and very tasty. Small but quant. I always find it open. You can enjoy your meal out in the sun under an umbrella, or inside at A counter or table with provided reading materials on local events including fishing info. I stop there often.
We went in for an early breakfast before taking a day's boat trip. The food was freshly cooked and my wife's pancake was particularly good. Great value.
We came across this place by accident and were really pleased we did. We found ourselves in Port Alberni on a Sunday morning, starving for something to eat. The Blue Door didn't look like much from the outside, but don't be fooled. Our waitress was friendly and chatty and the food was really good. I had an enormous pancake with... more
We wanted a good breakfast and saw the mixed reviews about Blue Door. Well we got a great breakfast and a pleasant conversation with the cook/hostess/waitress. We sat at the bar and she brought the local news paper over and we talked about the current floods in Calgary while our food was cooking. We were all alone and had a... more
Great Owner & Staff, Great Food
A Wonderful Cafe to visit while in Port Alberni. Down by the docks which make it a wonderful place to enjoy food and coffee.
Always good food, cooked right in front of you, small cafe, but you get to know your 'neighbors', very quaint, excellent service,
i live in port alberni and didnt even know it was here, when i came to learn about this place i was in heaven im a sucker for home cut fries, the food was amazing and the place was sooo clean, i have become a regular that is for sure, as for comments above about horrible service, i have come... more
Went there for breakfast and felt like u was in a place that did not know what it wanted to sell. It is a combo of a comer store and a school cafeteria. Please go someplace else for a better more enjoyable time.
The Blue Door Cafe down by the Port Alberni Quay is not fancy by any means. It is warm and inviting. The service is fast and friendly. The food is excellant. I love their wall mural of fish and clams down under the sea. After wandering around the Quay and looking at the boats, finish of there for coffee or... more
Went in for lunch and the cook was ranting about something. She was saying im sick of this im shutting down. When i left the doors shut early and a sign was slapped on the door "Closed until further notice". I won't go back there, I feel sorry for the poor server that had no idea what was going on.
The cook/server was rude. We went in for lunch and she was scowling, tried to say hello and was ignored. It's not a fancy restaurant, if you Would like friendly service, nice restaurant, good prices don't eat there!
Nothing very fancy but always the best breakfast available. Cooked in front of you so you know they are always doing everything right. You want a pancake made without sugar ... they can do it.
This is a small little diner where you don't have to get dressed up to go the.... If you are looking for ambience this is not the place for you.... It's great if you are just coming in from walk around the dike..... What you will get is good home cooking at an at a good price.... The hand cut... more
I do not recommend going here, they have bad service, unfriendly staff with rude comments (in regard to racial discrimination) I will be sending a complaint to the BBB and the local AV times. I'm appaulled by the actions and words of the staff at this establishment.
We were staying in a motel but didn't want to cook breakfast. The motel owner recommended the Blue Door Cafe.
It's nothing fancy - far from it: it's almost what we'd call 'a greasy spoon' here in the UK, but the food is great, the price is good and the service is excellent. What more could a hungry person want?...
