Fine dining seafood and traditional fare. Spectacular waterfront location at the Comox Harbour Marina. A destination point for many visitors to the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island. A fine selection of wine and whiskey choices is offered along with an extensive list of martinis. Offsales available.
On the short walk from downtown Comox to the marina, you'll pass this hospitable pub overlooking the harbor. The menu is large and, for a pub, quite interesting; some of the dishes feature Asian flavors. Entrees range from schnitzel to curry chicken, though with waterfront views, you might find local pan-fried oysters, grilled wild salmon, and halibut fish and chips hard to resist. The usual... more
Went twice...I am vegetarian so I had salads. Both times there was so much old veggies in it that I couldn't eat it. I never went back for a 3 rd time.
GREAT RESTAURANT IN COMOX!
I really recommend anything with seafood. Their burgers are great and all but since there are next to a marina and the ocean... Plus they have great seafood.
The seafood chowder is really what drives me to this place. It's one of the best.
The oysters were great. The halibut fish & chips. Coconut curry cod. Anyway you get the idea.
Great place with great food.
Pretty much the best fish tacos I've ever had! And that's saying a lot. I'm from Arizona and spend a lot of time in Mexico, but the unique fish tacos at Blackfish were delicious combining prawns and lingcod with jalapeño oil and wasabi aioli! Yum! We also had the won ton soup. Also quite good. Huge bowl with tons of prawns and veggies!
Steak and prawns were tasty and cooked to my specifications. The waitress was nice enough. Will try this place again when it's not a peak dining period because I couldn't hear my partner across the table.
I went to the Blackfin had the soup...
Chicken cordon blue... amazing...
Who would have thunk... Yummy
I just had the best blackened salmon and side dinner salad... it was excellent... perfectly cooked and very reasonably priced. I just wish I had taken a photo!
You cannot beat the view, the best in the valley
Thankfully they have changed up some of the wall decor
The server was OK, never really got the feeling that she cared. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder, that was scalding, not necessary.
The clam chowder was tasty. I've been here before, and usually things go better for
Loved the view , delicious food. Very friendly and prompt service. I love when they bring water right when we are seated!...and then quickly followup with the drink order! Great, relaxing, delicious meal.
I had a bit of a disappointing dining experience here the other day. The menu was a bit different than what was online, and they didn't have the turkey burger I wanted. I wanted to try the chicken burger, but to have it grilled instead of fried- the server told me they can't do that as it's a frozen prepared burger. I chose the Montrealer. It was sooo dry. Like dry bread and meat were the only... more
Great food and a beautiful, cozy little gig with a killer view. By far one of the best mojitos I've ever had. Slightly on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for. I've found the staff can sometimes be standoffish, and come off a little haughty. Once I came in for dinner with a group of 3 without making a reservation and the hostess gave us a "you guys are d@!%!**#s" look, before turning... more
Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Very impressed with everything. Have the mussels in the Thai cream sauce, great appetizer, but next time I am just ordering two or three.
I loved coming here 5 years ago, however after visiting during my travels back up the island I have switched my tune and have witnessed a decline in service.
It is not due to food because we did not even give it that much time, we left. Maybe the lack of service was due the fact we were weary, and not dressed to impress (or tip.) We had been traveling from Vancouver all the way up island. I...

What a wonderful pub. I have a huge (read: massive) affinity for dark wood and carpet in pubs... clearly we were made for each other.
Easily accessible location with lots of parking, just enough seating inside with a great patio. This place is a solid step above regular pub fare. They have the standards like meat pies and wins, but they also carry local specialties like local oysters and...

Such a great restaurant with a big selection of food. I had the banana coconut cod with mango curry sauce that was unbelievable , so so good . Staff very nice and good at recommending what is popular , thank... more
A wonderful setting to enjoy a meal. The wine list is robust and the food has been outstanding on every visit. My one criticism is that most of the seafood is fried and there aren't many options for fresh fish on the menu.
We hadn't been in awhile so made reservations to check it out once more. We arrived at 630 and it was packed with people waiting for seats. We were seated immediately and ordered drinks. They took a bit of time to arrive but understandable given the number of people. We ordered our starter - baked brie with flatbread. It came incredibly quickly which was good as we were hungry. It's hard to... more

Loved this spot on the marina and had a delicious meal! Everything from the Caesar to start through the main course and dessert was fantastic. The views also make this spot extra-special, and I appreciated a large wine list and food menu that offered many seafood options. Would highly recommend.
The most beautiful room and view in the Valley! The food is exceptional, as well as the service and care to detail. The owners are always present and amazing. If you are ever in the area, The Blackfin is a must!
Service and view were fabulous. The food is terrible though. All of the entrees come with same flavourless side dishes, chemical tasting reheated mashed potatoes, bland carrots and mushy zucchini. No seasoning at all. Main meat dishes tasted like reheated cafeteria food. The mussel appetizers sauce was like a thick white sauce with no flavour. I think they just cook the mussels in a huge... more
Got the BC Sockeye Salmon. Was overcooked and was a tail piece. What a joke. Please don't ever come here. Food is overpriced as well.
After a grueling day on our bicycles, we arrived at the splendid Blackfin Pub, a welcome haven from the wind and rain, to find it bustling. We waited a mere 10 minutes in our bright spandex ensembles, sped along by a quick and attentive bar service. We got a seat amongst starry eyed lovers spending a Friday evening in a cozy date environment. The real romance happened when we first bit into our... more
Good upscale pub grub. Amazing view. Good service. The lighting is difficult, don't know if it is the glare but it can be hard to see in there.
Had a great experience with Grama here last week when we were in Comox valley. Accommodated all of our special needs. Service was excellent.
Read the reviews and thought we would give it a try, was not disappointed. Halibut & chip were great and the Angel apple spice was also great. Went there again the next night. Had steak sandwich, my wife had pasta. Both were very tasty.
Service was very good both nights. Food came out very fast. Definitely will come again next time in Comox area.
we last visited tha blackfin a number of years ago . we live south of unionbay. my wife had a belini drink I coffee. my wife had stuffed Yorkshire I cod and chips, both looked great when when they arrived, the fish batter was really thick, The inside was not cooked still wet and cold the amount of fish was pathetic,so dry. coffee was ok . should have went to the ROYSTOWN in Royston better... more
This place refused to serve us because we had our child with us and we were told that although they serve food it is up to the 'owner's discretion' to allow children. Age discrimination is a still a form of discrimination. Ridiculous that a family can't eat in an establishment that serves food because they also serve beer? What year is it?
While the food was fine, even quite fresh and tasty, the length of time required to prepare a couple of simple wraps seemed very long. Thankfully the views offered respite from the long wait.
Was here a couple of years ago and it was fantastic, not so much anymore! The service was adequate but the food was generic, commercially processed and mediocre. The crab stuffed chicken breast was heavily breaded and something you'd get in the frozen section of Costco as was the artichoke dip. The garlic mashed potaoes had no garlic flavour and had that boxed consistency. The Chicken club... more
I had the special seafood Ceasar salad & it had the most mushy, overcooked, tasteless salmon & some other unrecognized fish I have ever experienced! I say experienced because I cannot say I have ever tasted because the all of the fish was TASTELESS!!! Thank god the wine was good. The crowd noise overwhelmed the very loud, for a "restaurant", rock music. It truly is a PUB and cannot be called a... more
Food was ok. Service was deplorable.. if the bartender paid half the attention she did to her customers as her tattoos...then we might have had a decent experience. One of the worst service experiences ever.
Thought I would keep it light tonight, so I ordered seafood chowder and a steak salad.
Seafood chowder was a glorified cream of mushroom soup with three pieces of fish and tone of mushrooms!. It had no flavour and was all creamy broth. The steak sandwich was served with perfectly cooked asparagus and a tougher than usual medium rare steak.
The wine was terrible but this is my fault, I should...

Not So Happy Birthday...
My husband usually takes me to the Kingfisher on my birthday, and it's always lovely, but we're vegetarians and often end up spending a fortune and not having much of a selection in terms of food. This year, I wanted to go someplace with a wider selection of vegetarian items and friends suggested the Blackfin Pub. My husband had been there with friends and agreed that...

A BAD EXPERIENCE.
We were very disappointed. We ate here a couple of years ago and had a good experience, but this time both our meals were bad.
My wife had bacon wrapped scallops. We had to send them back because they were so over cooked. They did them over and they weren't overcooked the second time, but they were not very good. I suspect they were a manufactured food service item and not...

Great view on the patio. Had the Clam Chowder and Seafood Club .Yummy! Staff we friendly We'll be back next time we're back in the area.
Since we were visiting my parents on thre island - they offered to watch all 3 kids. My husband is a Newfie & lives fresh seafood so we wanted to try here. Views of the harbor are post card worthy, food & service - no. My husband had fish & chips - tasted frozen & just not right. I had... more

I can never enjoy plain macaroni again! Not after having the Crab Mac & Cheese at the Blackfin Pub. This dish was amazing. Great taste and served piping hot. Crispy baked top. I will never enjoy plain macaroni and cheese again. I am certain that none will ever top the Blackfin Crab Macaroni and Cheese that I just had.
MY WIFE AND I ENJOYED TWO INCREDIBLE MEALS. TASTY, extremely well prepared, excellent service, friendly, veggies were done to a tee. Wife had fish, I had veal, we were both impressed and we eat out a fair bit.
Would recommend this to anyone.
THANK YOU MUCHLY…!!!
First time at the Blackfin Pub and I and my party would highly recommend this establishment, the food was second to none and Tess our waitress was awesome!!!
The Blackfin Pub has alot of character and a wonderful view of Comox Harbour, Marina and the Beaufort Mountains. The food is well presented and always very good. I would highly recommend the Blackfin Pub!
The Blackfin Pub is a great place to get together with friends or clients. Food is always of a high quality at a reasonable price and the atmosphere is fun. It is a busy place so make a reservation or expect to wait in line. However, even if you have to wait the view is beautiful across the Comox Harbour... more
We live in Comox and are regular visitors to the Blackfin Pub. The food, especially the seafood chowder, is exquisite and the view is outstanding. It really is misnamed as a pub because it's a fine dining restaurant that also serves liquor. Reasonably priced and the owners are terrific community supporters. I usually take visitors to the Blackfin right away... more

I normally take clients to the Fin for a nice lunch but just a couple days ago was treated to a birthday lunch by my family. Absolutely the best seafood chowder I have ever had. I had a beer too. The beer came in a great big glass, way bigger than at most other restaurants or pubs. Good value!
We have eaten here quite often, the food has always been good. That said the rest goes downhill I brought a friend here recently for a quick beer while we waited for some photos to be processed. The Black Fin is our neighbourhood pub, and I can't remember having a bad experience there in 20 years. The staff is fantastic, many of them have been there for years and years (hi Tess!). Our torpedo shrimp appetizer was excellent. One of our party had the Banana Coconut Curry cod, and it was AMAZING. This is great pub food at decent prices and good service - especially Margaret! My favourite is their Seafood Chowder. On cold days you can sit by the fire or inside by the windows looking out at the marina. On warm days you can sit outside looking out at the ocean and marina. Fantastic. My favourite place.
the view is nice but the food is only average and expensive. the service is good when it is not too busy. Once it gets busy there is a long wait.
You can always count on having a good meal here, pretty consistant, nice menu, great appys, good fish and chips. Nice to sit by the fire on a cold day.
It is a pub food quality restaurant with the location and atmosphere potential to be a World class culinary haven. Every time I go there I wish for a little more out of the kitchen. The evening bar tender is top notch. He, the staff and the view are excellent which keep us coming back.
I've never been disappointed in the food The menu is varied and you'll find something for everyone. You have a lovely view of the Comox Marina. As it's a Pub there is an age restriction for customers. When it's pretty crowded it can be a bit noisy so if you have a hard time hearing this may not be best... more
The service is great, the food is upper pub But that's o.k. keep it that way. The view is killer and that brings it to a 4.
Cheers
Really more dinning than Pub, but a very relaxed feel. Great views of the waterfront. Outstanding service, attentive and knowledgeable. excellent seafood.
First time here. It was awesome! Not that we had much to compare to. This pub was recommended by our hotel and we were so happy to find it!
Firstly, the waitress was prompt, polite and well groomed.
Secondly, the food was prompt, and delicious! We had yam fries, calamari and baked Brie to start. All three were excellent. For the main dish I had the steak salad, I ordered rare because very often...

This long established Pub in Comox is well worth the visit. Right on the waterfront looking over the marina. From soup to the main course, it is excellent in taste and presentation.

The Blackfin Pub and Restaurant looks over the Comox harbour and docks and is very nicely decorated with a nautical flavour. Lots of glass to enjoy the view. Good atmosphere, and great service made a good night out. Four of us had dinner at the Blackfin Pub, and while we had a good time, unfortunately the actual food was competent without being memorable in any way; it just didn't seem to have much flavour to it. Judging by other reviews, I'm assuming we were just unlucky.
I live in the Comox Valley and the Black Fin is a nice place to visit. Very nice inside, great atmosphere, nice views from the restaurant. Today I had the subject item from the menu. The broth, veggies, and noddles where abundant and very tasty.

One of my favourite spots in town but second guessin when feeling like fish and chips. They use a great dill batter and tartar sauce but last three times I tried it, the fish was so greasy that my fried were soggy in a puddle. I couldn't finish it because of the oil. I don't know how they keep cooking it like that. Nasty. Other than that I like their food and atmosphere.
Cozy Pub style restaurant with great views of the harbour and great food. Service and staff were tremendous. Don't miss this one!
We had lunch there yesterday and for the first time in years I had delicious seafood in a moist gluten free bun. The Black Finn offers a good, varied menu with superb harbour views. This used to be a favorite dinner spot when we lived in Comox almost 10 years ago. Today I had the opportunity to lunch there again and what a delicious meal, excellent service and of course the atmosphere and views still fabulous!
The parking lot was packed and I suggested we go somewhere else, but my husband the optimist said we should give it a try. Great views overlooking the Comox Marina, lively atmosphere and a varied menu. Generous sandwiches, I had the blackened snapper, crunchy yam fries. Emphasis on seafood, interesting preparations. The seafood cakes seemd to be a popular item. Come hungry.
The main attraction here is location. Indeed at sunset the view is really awesome, overlooking the wharf. Anyway, if you like to seat outside on the patio, or inside near the windows, you need a reservation (at least in August).
Food is pub food, served with good local beers, and fairly priced.
The waitresses were friendly, but not very attentive....

We were here on a sunny Summer day for lunch and sat on the outdoor deck overlooking the harbor. I had the oysters wrapped in bacon, and a Caesar salad. Both were tasty, and I loved the oysters. We would definitely come back on our next visit!
So good we visited twice. Great views of the marina, fine drinks selection, very good food, a gluten-sensitive menu that is delicious, and excellent chocolate mousse desert. No wonder the place is always crowded.
We were looking for a late dinner and were told that the Blackfin had excellent food. It sure does!
