I was walking on Queen st looking for Shortstack records and saw a sign pointing down a staircase. Along with it - Black Market Vintage Clothing. As you walk down the black and white staircase, music is pumping and there's an energy that seems to be sneaking out. Almost would feel like you've stumbled upon some hidden gem if it weren't for the fact the store is filled with people, who clearly... more

The spirit of the early nineties is still alive in Black Market. While Queen West has changed over the past two or three decades, Black Market still stands as a herald of how things used to be.

You can still hear the punk sounds of Rancid playing through the underground, taking you back to a time when The Warehouse was the greatest concert venue in Toronto, even if you did have to argue for... more

I love how big this place is, if you search you'll always find something! Price only $10 an item is so cheap! Love it overall but it's just kinda dusty. I'd come back but I wish it was less dirty feeling and another star off because the workers are actually really rude. Fun place to dig for vintage items!

Such a great vintage shop! Sooo much stuff to choose from! I love that everything inside is only 10 dollars! Allow yourself at least an hour to dig through everything! If you like vintage rocker type tees, army surplus, denim jackets, flannels, and vintage leathers this is your place!
Make sure to come check it out!!!

This is not the type of store you can give a low rating to just because they currently don't have a selection that pleases you, this is the type of store that you wander into once a month and eventually find a bunch of things you never knew you wanted, but now need. Ended up showing my friends this place while walking down Queen Street East because it's full of the types of shirts and random... more

Once upon a time, their clothes may have been interesting and unique. Now, they sell low-quality beanies--similar to the ones sold at Dollarama at $2--for $10. I would know because my friend and I were harassed by security for over half an hour. 5 minutes after leaving the store, we were stopped by plainclothes security who would not show us their IDs and who accused us of stealing SOMETHING... more

If you've been around Toronto awhile, you might have GOOD memories of this place (and the other old location, upstairs across the street).
They have a smart system of mostly 10 dollar items.
Interesting looking, usually music is too loud and awful c@!%!y punk music.
Lot more looking than buying going on.

I was so looking forward to coming as I heard so much about it! I must say I was not disappointed! the clothing was about as vintage as you're gonna get with a wide selection of t-shirts, denim, shoes, sweaters, sunnies, scarves and soooo much more! they even had a vinyl section.

only downside, it being a thrift store, you kinda hit or miss when u go... you gotta keep going back!! overall it's... more

I have known of this place for over a decade. I think I have walked into it... 4 times. With a margin of error of 1 or 2 times.

Alright, I have walked in more than that, however, more often than not I am accompanying someone rather than myself looking for something to purchase. Last time I was there, my partner in crime was looking for some all-black shirts. Which she found 2 for under $10.

There is a word for Black Market. And that word is gross. It's not about the 'musty' smell in any vintage store. It's about  the never-ending ugly, cheaply printed band t-shirts that look like c@!p. It's about the too-loud music that is invariably T-Rex or the Cramps(great if you're in the mood/ not if you're not). And it is about the staff working there. They are seriously gross. If I could give them 0 stars I would! This shop has STOLEN my artwork, sells it for profit, and refuses to respond to me about it. Disgusting! Don't shop here unless you want to support THIEVES. They take money directly away from struggling small time artists just because they can. A horrible way to run a business.

Hey, if you like a bunch of parasitic losers with not a single original bone in their body stealing art from real artists, then this is the place for you! Enjoyed my time shopping here! I would say go for the denim items because a lot of them are branded (Levis, GAP, etc) and look brand new. Clothes are neatly sorted according to sizes. However, it gets crowded sometimes and difficult to move through the lanes. There are several changing rooms in the store too. I can spend hours in this place!

Very organised and spacious. It was easy to find a pair of shorts jeans in my size as they are tagged neatly and arranged according to sizes. Their "security" stalked me, approached me on the street 20 minutes after I left the store, accused me of stealing a pair of black gloves that I own (think standard black finger gloves), refused to show me their video footage, then I was barked at by a ham.

This place is over-hyped and ill kept. If you have the time to wade through their entire collection and stick around then kudos to you. The overpowering, musty scent throws me off and a lot the the items used items up for sale/being purchased (clothes wise) I feel as though should be given to charity and people who need them...but that's just my opinion.

I still love going here. It's like being stuck in a time-warp. But I can't, in good conscience, endorse their anti-copyright practices. They don't pay royalties to the artists featured on the T-Shirts. In the case of famous rock bands, I think it's ok. But in the cases of independent artists, I believe they should be compensated for their artwork.

Fab clothes. BUT the woman who I checked out with at the store was the rudest person alive. The service at this terrific vintage store, is, to say the least, less than par. A very rude woman with a dark bob checked me out, and had only rude remarks to offer. To start off, the staff is demeaning and inconsiderate. Its impossible to find what you're looking for. In addition, if you forget to take something off (ring, etc) the alarms are SILENT it is not until you are in public that someone will chase you down and embarrass you. This is where I've done "Vintage" right. There have been some serious finds here!

First, anyone who's ever been in a vintage store knows that "musty" smell. Yep, it's here, with a vengeance! I've been browsing around this store at most once a year for the past decade and have not once bought anything from here as I always felt their items were not worth the value despite it's low prices.  All the clothes smell and appear to be used or literally fell off a truck, but I guess that's all part of the charm of a thrift shop.

If you've got the time, this place is worth checking out. There are racks and racks of stuff so it can be a bit overwhelming. It's in a basement with decent square footage in downtown Toronto.

Everything is fairly well organized. Sweaters by colour, leather jackets, army wear, etc. They have new items as well. You can get t-shirts printed too.

If you need a haircut, you can get that in the back.

I'll be honest: I'm not big on thrifting. To be even more honest, this was the first vintage-sequel store I've ever been to.
