Came back again looking for a watch and also came back to clean my ring. Wonderful service. I was curious about the laser engraving on the stone, but I still could not see it with the 10x magnifying glass. So, the manager brought out the microscope that they use at the back to the front to specifically show me where it is and patiently taught me how to find it. It is wonderful how much they... more

The success of this Canadian Jeweler solely depend the public's ignorance of any knowledge pertaining to jewelry. In a society where diamonds--an industrial gem--are still purchased at artificially inflated prices and given as gestures of engagement of love, a worthless stone that are abundant as natural crystals, it is no surprise Birks can get away with selling nothing, and turning a profit.... more

Was not impressed with selection or prices, found prices quite high, found nicer rings at a more reasonable price

We went to the Bloor and Bay "flagship" store to look at engagement rings. The only flagship thing about that store was the attitude: noone greeted us at the entrance, even though there were no customers at the store. The sales woman (I think her name was Monique) acted like she didn't want to be bothered. She was very standoffish and didn't even introduce herself until we were leaving, when... more

One of the few remaining icons of Canadian retail, Birks caters to an established crowd that doesn't mind paying full-on retail for fine jewellery.

Service is informed and formal. Designs are safe. Even sterling silver options are at the outer limits of affordability. A great selection of watches, all of which can be found elsewhere at much better prices.

If you're the sort who values the... more

I got engaged to be married a loooong time ago, when my guy and I were living in SF as starving artists. Back then, we had simple bands of white gold fashioned for us by a former WPA puppeteer turned ring sculptor, an Italian American man in his 70s.

Fast forward 14 years, 2 kids and one PhD later: my guy and I decide to renew our vows. We just moved to Toronto and our former funky jeweler had... more

In my time living in Toronto, I thought of Birks as a small step below Tiffany and a big step above the traditional mall jewelry stores (Peoples, Mappins, etc). I didn't ever step foot in the place when I lived in the T dot, but passed the display windows by the Manulife Centre on many an occasion.

So when looking around (kind of casually) for a wedding band on our last visit, we stopped at... more

A very expensive Canadian-based chain for gifts, including watches, rings, crystal, and all the acroutements of luxe life. All of the things sold here are optional. Some things are nice little accessories to life, though. A friend of mine has a gorgeous diamond wedding ring with a very distinctive design specific to Birks. The service here is surprisingly laid back. Every time I've been in,... more

With 36 stores across Canada and headquartered in Montreal, this jewelery shop is one of the most respected in the country. The store boasts a tradition that goes back to 16th century England, with the first shop opening in Montreal in 1879.
