An oasis in the heart of the city, the Montréal Biodôme recreates some of the most beautiful ecosystems of the Americas: -the lush and humid Tropical Rainforest, warm even in the depths of a Montréal winter; -the Laurentian Maple Forest, changing with the seasons; -the Gulf of St. Lawrence; -and the Subpolar Regions of the Americas: Labrador Coast and Sub-Antarctic Islands. The Biodôme, whose... plus

A terrifically engaging attraction for children of nearly any age, the delightful Biodôme houses replications of four ecosystems: a tropical rainforest, a Laurentian forest, the St. Lawrence marine system, and a polar environment. Visitors walk through each and hear the animals, smell the flora, and (except in the polar region, which is behind glass) feel the changes in temperature. The... plus

If you love animals, you will love the Biodôme.
I've visited here several times already but it doesn't get boring.
Looking forward to an expansion of the place soon!!

My favourite highlights:
* the otters
* the beavers at the beaver dam
* the penguins! Always my favourite - look for the ones that tries to swim against the current in the waters; it looks as if they're dancing the salsa haha.

Visit the Biodome! I found it to be a nice "zoo", but I would call it more of a natural science museum mixed with a zoo. The biodome is split into four different ecosystems with all the animals and educate the population about different animals in ecosystems. From rain forest, to tundra, it's pretty fun. It is small though, so you could enjoy it in an hour and a half.

Make your trip to the Biodome worthwhile by opting to do the combo package with the Planetarium and the Insectarium with garden tour. Also, I noticed the long lines in buying tickets, so buy your tickets ahead of time...online, and just show your printed scanner or on your phone when going in.

Everything is done indoors, so need to worry about rain, being cold, etc.

Last week, the weather cooperated with us enough to be able to go pumpkin picking at Quinn Farm. This week however, has been rainy, windy and chilly (Hurricane/Tropical Storm Patricia) so we decided to do indoor activities. A great option for both children and adults is Montreal's Biodôme.

Overpriced and overcrowded for what it is (basically a small zoo under a dome, with several simulated habitats, including tropical and temperate forests). Even though we went on a weekday we could hardly turn around due to all the people! It's such a cute little weekend day trip. It's not a large place, but I can see how kids can really enjoy it. The dome is divided into 5 primary areas, encompassing the different climes of Canada, starting from the warmest jungle-like areas to the subpolar regions. They're well done and the animals are all prominently displayed and quite active.

I had no idea this place was a zoo... sigh...
Birds (penguins, puffins..etc.. stuck existing in the smallest overcrowded 'habitats', no where for them to hide and often visiting kids are beating on the glass with their fists, just awful.
Reminds me of a few revolting Eastern European zoos I visited as a little kid.
If you want to introduce your kids to nature, take them outside.

This is definitely a tourist destination, but also a bit of a "trap." We were extremely disappointed by our visit to the Biodome. The Biodome is truly one of the city's hidden treasures. You could easily lose a day here and the Botanical Gardens are not far away if the sun comes out! Both worthwhile!

Wonderful for families with young kids
16 avril 2014

Its not too large, but they pack a lot of fun into a small space. I'd recommend this place for people with kids 7 and under. there are so many places you can just sit and breastfeed, including an exclusive breastfeeding room with comfy couches. The natralia room downstairs is fantastic for hands on touching, seeing, smelling fun experiences. and... plus

Biodome
15 avril 2014

We expected to see something extraodinary, based on the description of biodome in the tourist guide. There was nothing there that we had not seen before. Very few animals that were hiding from us, very few plants. Great place for kids, but again, nothing that is extraodinary. If you don't have kids, don't waste your money.

At first I was a bit hesitant about this place thinking that it might be like a zoo, but to my surprise this place blew me away. It was like experiencing the planet earth series under 3 hours. A full day's worth of fun
13 avril 2014

We visited here with our 2 young kids (3 and 6). We all really enjoyed it. Biodome is a unique experience and the Planetarium show was memorable too. There are many cautions about the show being suitable for older kids only. Its mainly because the first show, Continuum, has music which tends to build a lot of suspense. The music... plus

The biodome was one of our better stops in Montreal. If you have young kids i'd say this is essential even if you go no further than the penguin complex. The Bio-dome is an indoor zoo. But why i gave this 5 stars is the animals and environments that have been created make this zoo different from any zoo you have ever been too. If you've ever been to Moody Gardens in Galveston TX you'll notice that this is like that, except in a dome shape instead of pyramids, and smaller. It's my understanding the Biodome came first, so as the original it's definitely pretty cool.

Two things you've got to remember when visiting Montreal, 1. get a metro card, the more days the better, it'll get you all around town without worrying about parking. 2. Visit the biodome so you can help with funding the cause. I spent over 30 minutes watching their otter display, because it was feeding time and he was hyper and running/swimming all over the place. As a family outing on a snowy Friday morning, this was fun. We paid $2 to check our coats, took a swing through the discovery center where our small son got to pet reindeer antlers, peer at a dragonfly wing under a microscope, and so on. Well, it's a good place to take the kids. It's not that entertaining for the adults... unless you're a big fan of penguins. It's not a very impressive zoo, the only thing that's interesting in my opinion is the recreation of the habitats of the animals.

This was a pretty neat zoo that takes you through three environments: tropics, the woods near Montreal and the Arctics. There was a variety of animals and lots of plants in each of the environments - sloths, alligators, exotic birds, penguins, beavers, a river otter, and so on. The price wasn't bad and the access to the metro makes it easy to get to.

An interesting, thoughtfully organised zoo, although the enclosures look a little crowded for the animals, and with some members of the crowd screaming at animals to try to get a reaction they do tend to look a little stressed. The enclosures are looking a little run-down in places.

Montréal's Biodôme is the only one of its kind in the world. It features four distinct ecosystems recreated in the former Olympic Games Velodrome. Created to represent the four most beautiful habitats found in North, Central and South America. Mammals, birds and plant life thrive in mini-habitats. Visitors, especially children, will enjoy all four environments.
