It was closed when we visited but we were able to get a lot of info from the plaques outside the museum and his home. He developed the first mobile blood transfusions in WW1 and then was the only doctor for 13 million people in China. How sad, that he died in a week,of an infection from a finger cut.... more
Thousands of people travel from China to see the Bethune House every year. A visitors' centre has been added to the attraction. Bethune is on the list of top 50 Canadians in history and he still has a place in the hearts of around a billion people in China. I'm from Bethune's hometown and I'm in China right now. Enjoyed the visit to Betune's childhood home. Well maintained and furnished with items from that period. Museum has interesting information on his life. Staff very friendly and informative. Worth a visit.
We missed this attraction because we arrive at 4:05 pm. The site is only open between 10 -4. This is a national historic site, why isn't it open when the tourist are there at least till 5.
amazing place good historical content norman Bethune is reviere all over the world and the curator has done a great job with the artifacts on display appeals to all ages for sure
Really learned a lot about Dr. Bethune. So glad there is a memorial of some kind in his honour. The Chinese people revere his name and children learn about him in school - I wish the same thing occurred here.
Worth a visit to have a look at the memorabilia of Norman Bethune's life and adventures, and an interesting glimpse at what Gravenhurst looked like in the early 1900's. A definite 'go to' spot for those interested in the history of the area, or Bethune's legacy and what makes him a hero to Mainland China.
Bethune Memorial House is a beautifully preserved location, in llovely grounds.
The tour guides (Chinese), extremely well versed in the history of the man himself, are knowledgeable and enthusiastic in their presentation, making the time spent there well worthwhile. This was a great learning experience, and well worth the visit!

Bethune is a revered hero in China and almost unknown in Canada. This is a well run operation and every Canadian school kid should see it
This is a nice restored house belonging to the Bethune family. There is a reasonable charge to get into this building. The tour guides are very knowledgeable as well. Besides furniture and personal effects of this family, there is history about this famous doctor. After hearing the story about this gentleman, you quick learn why he ewas beloved by the... more
I took some Chinese students to Bethune house some years ago, and a great deal more about a great Canadian.
