I was here on business and leisure. When i called before booking my reservation I wanted to know how their internet was. Of course, any hotel would say they have great internet to get you to stay there but they said it was "newly installed" and great so I took their word for it.
So I ended up booking and regret doing so mainly because of the horrible internet. I couldn't work from the hotel...

Staff was excellent, couldn't have been better. Parking was not great. Room didn't even have thermostat controled central air, had to use wall unit air conditioner that was being covered by windowshade. I stayed here with my family (4 of us) for a weekend. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and helpful. The rooms look like they were remodeled, and it looks very nice. It's a little inconvenient since there are all stairs, so carrying suitcases up and... more
Won't stay here again! Paid extra for "partial ocean view" it was a sliver between high rise buildings or had to step out on a questionable deck to peer around corner to see water. Carpet in room was wet from being shampooed and... more
Pros location , friendly staff they even put a microwave in our room on request. CHEAP!!
Cons outdated, very thin walls , parking
I was very disappointed in this hotel for the little things.
The room was very nice and comfortable. Given I stayed during Grey Cup weekend, the $340 for two nights seemed reasonable.
Until I tried to shower the first morning of my stay. The water did not even get warm, never mind hot. That made for a very grumpy start to the day. After being out all morning, I came back in the afternoon to...

My wife and I walk out on the back room patio of the bar tonight and what do we see but the patio table that was stolen from our back yard several months ago. I have no proof other than we recognize it. When confronted the manager was not receptive. It is after all a lousy 50 dollar table. I don't want it back . We have spent thousands of dollars there over the last twenty years. We won't be back.
This a great location, but the hotel itself is dingy with poor service. When one of my children clogged the toilet because the plumbing is residential grade at best, I called the front desk and was told someone would come soon to plunge it but they did not come until I called a second time. When my wife answered the door the attendant handed my wife the plunger and walked away. The rooms have a... more

Location very good, almost on the beach at English Bay. Plenty of restaurants and cafes within minutes as well as Stanley Park. Room at the back was very quiet. Can be reached from the city by either of two bus routes.
we had 4 nights at this hotel and found it to be great ,location, cleanliness friendly it has it all, the only downside I would have to say was the small bathroom.
this was a great hotel, perfect location, wonderful and helpful staff, very clean, the only downfall I could pick was that the bathroom was a little too cramped, but other than this 10 out of 10
I would definitely stay here again. Location was great. Walking distance to everything. Transportation at front door. The only problem I encountered was finding hair in my bath/shower before I even used it. Also couldn't get water to go medium warm. It was either Hot or Cold. But would stay here again.
I booked a Queen suite. The bedroom part of the suite was right at the back of the elevator shaft and the room vibrated every time the elevator moved. Attended a event in Vancouver with friends and thought we'd take our bikes, find a place close to the sea wall that wasn't crazy expensive. We booked with Booking.com. Hotel was awesome! It was perfect to get around in near Stanley Park and many other attractions, but old elevators rugs in halls not great, old plumbing. The lounge was ok for drinks but not too great on food. The staff is very helpful and pleasant.
We love this hotel because the location is excellent. It's next to Stanley park and all the best restaurants are on Denman street. The interior is a little old but it's clean. The only downside is paid parking but that's anywhere in downtown.
You can tell this is an old hotel, but this just adds to the character. It was very clean, and the staff were so courteous and helpful. This was a nice sized room, and it is one block from English Bay, which is were the Sea Wall is. The location was prime, and we were so glad we stayed here!

The property is a bit old and smallish but has a very helpful staff, a fitness center and is close to English bay. I would stay there again. The walls are very thin! The difference between a regular room and premium room is minimal but in dollars it is quite a bit more.
For the most part, the hotel was good, just dated somewhat. The room was a little noisy as a bus stop was immediately outside my window on the first floor and I could easily hear the TV and voices in the next room.. The girl at checkout was less than friendly, and would not give me a late checkout at 2:00. I had a conference at another hotel beginning at 5;00 pm and could not register until then.
It was pretty good 2 nights for me here. Location of hotel is very good, near to some of the city attractions and good food. Beds were very comfortable. Expect the room and bathroom to be slightly small in size, which is acceptable for me and is also common in most downtown city hotels. Decent value for money stay.
Great place to stay. Family and dog friendly. Central to Granville Island, Stanley Park, great restaurants and coffee shops, within walking distance of great shopping , bike rentals across the street. Hotel restaurant also family friendly. Have returned here many times and will return again.
Location was perfect, price was very reasonable (but double check all offers on website as we found better price that what was quoted when speaking to hotel front desk) cleanliness of room was excellent and it made for a great holiday. in the morning we could not sleep past 8, as there was a construction half a block away and it was very loud! wifi sucked, it was very slow. parking was limited....

Located very close to Stanley Park, Safeway, Starbucks, ethnic restaurants, easy walking to the center of downtown.
Spent three nights there which gave us the opportunity to see much of Vancouver. Hotel well placed for beach, Stanley Park and close to many restaurants. Ideal for tourists like ourselves.
Loved the place, staff is very friendly. Had a balcony that overlooked English Bay, superb to relax and let the thoughts roam free. Rooms are very clean and maids are very attentive to details. Hotel is also used by large groups - just avoid the reception when those groups are leaving! :)
Nice overall hotel with comfortable beds. Right next to beach and shops and restaurants. Just missing continental breakfast.
Had room 323 with a partial mountain view. Comfy bed and sofa plus excellent organic coffee. Spacious bathroom and wardrobe space. Staff friendly but professional and efficient. Lovely location and easy inexpensive access from Airport via Skytain and bus no.5, stops right outside hotel. Good range of cafes and shops near the hotel also.
Fantastic location, good value, large clean room and friendly staff.
This hotel was great! The location was excellent, walking distance from Stanley Park, a rental bike shop across the street. English Bay was across the street as well. If you are like me and love to walk everywhere mostly then the location is excellent, getting to the Skytrain or a bus is easy as well for those far away places. The hotel was comfortable, clean and the water is the best I've... more
As a college student, I didn't want to stay anywhere too extravagant. I'm glad I chose to stay at the Best Western Sands. The location is great, so you can explore the city easily. When you come back to the hotel, you can relax and be comfortable. What else do you need?
I thought this place wasn't too shabby at all. For the price we paid we had two full size beds and a sofa bed to go with it. The TV was actually a flat screen and it was pretty cozy.
The place is a stones throw from English Bay. It's a nice walk on a nice day. You probably could run to Stanley Park if you really wanted to. The rooms are nice and big. They are looking after the environment, and...

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience in this hotel. The staff was very helpful and gave us good advice in what to see and do in Vancouver. They were also friendly and polite. The hotel is centrally located and we were able to walk to Stanley Park and enjoy the views and activities there. We plan to stay in this hotel the next time we visit vancouver.
The location of the hotel was convenient for where we wanted to be. It was barely a 10 minute drive to the places we wanted to go. Parking was ridiculous. We had to pay $15 a night to park in a tiny lot that was always full. The room smelled like stale urine. No matter how much we sprayed the bathroom and room smelled like urine. Not very pleasant. The A/C unit wasn't properly working either.... more
“Hotel was clean, staff friendly. The parking was not the greatest.”
This is where I have stayed twice while in Vancouver and I won't change that. All I need is for it to be clean, near the water, have wifi and a hair dryer. The bus stops are right in front and across the street and you're right at English Bay and a very short walk to Stanley Park. The price was the main attraction and when you add in a coffee maker and umbrellas, it's absolutely perfect for my... more
The location is excellent; the staff is very helpful.
Our family was in Vancouver for a conference and moved to this hotel after the conference ended. My wife and daughter did some sightseeing and we were very pleased with the accommodations (maybe small but nice with granite counters and flat-screen tv) and amenities. We had a small fridge in the room, coin-op laundry available and free wi-fi, things our previous hotel did not have for a much... more
Except water, everything else was old and filthy. Never ever!
“I you are looking for a comfortable hotel in the heart of some of the best Vancouver has to offer this one is great. The beach is a two min, walk away, great restaurants and shopping are all around.”
“Fair priced, good quality for a budget traveler. Excellent location in Downtown Vancouver, close to Stanley Park, the entertainment district and shopping. Lots of restaurants near by. A great place for the budget minded traveler.”
The hotel is located in English Bay, just 3 minutes from the beach. We stayed 4 days there and were happy with what we got. You can walk to Stanly Park or just stroll along the beach. As far as restaurants go, Denman St is just around the corner, a haven for eating places. Frontdesk staff were polite and helpful. I would stay there again.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, everything works well - all facilities and the service. Very well located in relation to CBD, parks and beaches. Hard to fault.
While visiting Vancouver, i stayed at this hotel. Location great; it's steps from the beach, restaurants and bike rental place.
Rooms are well kept and parking is free for guests.
“All rooms ending in-19 are small and crowded because of the proximity to the elevators. I actually got stuck between the double bed and the wall. To make room more spacious, consider the following: Put up flat screen TV, remove cabinet that used to hold a refrigerator, remove desk. Use a small café table and two chairs. Pub and restaurant is excellent.”
Comfortable bed and sofa, wireless internet included, and walking distance to Canada Place, the Aquarium, and a large variety of restaurants and shops made for a great hotel choice. I would definitely consider staying there again. The only downside was the fact that the bathroom had a mildew smell from shower curtain / minimal ventilation.
room was small & bed against wall so access from 1 side only, but clean & comfortable. Nice to have restaurant downstairs for good breakfast. Fee for car parking added to overnight cost & not used to being charged a damage deposit.
We visited Vancouver for a day. The accommodations were very nice. The staff was helpful. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't have a water view, but we were so happy with the room that it didn't really matter.
Very clean, good sleeping. Lobby was hard to find - not well marked. Close to everything.
Checked into this hotel early, about 8am to be exact. They were very accomidating and had no problem with getting my room.
The room was visually clean. The restroom had hairs sitting all over, little curly strangers that were there when I arrived.
Room was small and basic. There was a fridge that was slightly cool and I was never able to bring to a "cold" and a balcony that was ok which had 2...

So we decided to spend out long weekend in BC at the Best Western Plus - Sands and I won'ts tay there again. The service there was actually pretty friendly, but I do NOT like the housekeeping. Two days in a row, we left the Do Not Disturb sign up before leaving for the day and housekeeping still came in. I don't know what their policy is, but EVERY other hotel I've ever stayed at if we keep the... more
“There is no pool. They charge $1.00 per day for a recycling fee so that should be noted.”
Loved my stay, Great Staff and very comfortable surroundings. NIce to be in a neighbourhood, rather than a corporate downtown location. Will stay again.
I wasn't expecting much but we can't complain it was only $67 a night. Very clean, updated halls and they are trying to be completely green. Staff has been very good and attentive. Overall good value and no sign of bed bugs!
“Great! Got upgraded to a balcony with a lovely view!”
3.5 star rating. This is because of the impeccable service I received from the staff. Otherwise, a 2.5 or 3 ratin
Pros: Right across from the ocean. Good balcony if you're lucky enough to get one with your room.
Cons: Old hotel feel. Bad air circulation and no centralized AC!
The BW Sands is a great hotel! I stayed during my quick visit to Vancouver and left completely satisfied. It's location is phenomenal. It's literally steps away from the beach, shopping and tons of good restaurants. The staff is so friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan on staying here again.
PROS:
- very close to the ocean, lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Good location
- clean
- friendly + helpful front desk.
CONS:
- $9.99/day for parking. Not even kidding you.
- noisy, from both traffic and other guests, probably because it was an old building.
- tiny bathroom. The fan in ours wasn't working.
- you can barely see the television; the tv hutch doors wouldn't open all the way....

Helpful and friendly staff. Great food in the restaurant. Quiet quiet quiet! Got a great sleep. No street noise or noisy hotel guests! Definitely recommend to others.
A great location, and free wifi was excellent. Parking was $10 a day which soon added up, but everything else was great.
The location was excellent and the front desk staff was very helpful. For the price, you can't beat it. There are nicer hotels, but this is the best location, overlooking English Bay and Stanley Park.
The location is perfect, the restaurants, bars and coffee places together with the beach and Stanley Park make your satying very accesible to almost anything.
The Best Western Sands maybe not be a plush hotel; however, It is well managed and maintained with convenient ammenities. It has a desirable location surrounded by restaurants and shopping and represents a good value for the money. It's only draw back is ongoing noisy construction near the hotel, but the front desk is willing to work with the guests if quieter rooms are needed.
Would recommend. Go9od restaurant . Close to other restaurants/stores. Enjoyed walk along beach front and sunset. Red bus stop nearby with stops to all attractions nearby, able to get on and off bus at leisure. Short cab ride to Canada Place for cruise ship.

Very helpful staff. Good size room, comfortable bed. Coloured bathroom suite looked slightly old-fashioned but was in good condition.
“I would give this hotel about 2 1/2 stars. The front desk staff were excellent but the bathroom was tiny and the room was only adequate. I did not like hearing busses and people going by all night and early morning. I probably would not stay at this hotel again.”
