Cozy neighborhood place. Cuisine doesn't shine but they make you feel comfortable. Pub grub without the flair. Hand formed burger was prepared as ordered. Fries were hot and crisp. Friend's shepherd's pie was hearty and steaming hot. Won't soon make Toronto's top 100 but good enough for return visit
Food was very good, company was nice and the location is prime to my room. I liked the atmosphere of the place and the bartender and waitress were on the ball. Thanks for a nice time
We went there late on Grey Cup Friday and we were the only ones there. It's a nice place with lots of soft seating and agood layout. The restaurant was closed, which was annoying, so we just stayed for a drink. I think it would be good for groups if you go early enough.
Ben Wick's has some stellar graphics and makes you feel like you're entering somewhere cooler than you actually are.
The pit patio has heaters and lots of picnic tables. It is one of the smokiest patios I've ever been on, so be warned if you're super bothered by smoke.
I've never ordered food here, but I've had their caesars (bad) and lots of vodka sodas (can't really mess those up) and beer....

I was looking for a new place in the neighbourhood to try and found this place. The menu looked interesting and pretty cheap.
You go down some stairs to a sunken in patio. Inside you can go straight to the bar side (kind of a Cheers feeling in there), or go left to the dining room. Both times I went the place was nearly empty, which usually isn't a good sign, however, the patio was...

Who the eff is touring me around cabbage town? This place blew.
It had an old and uncool clientèle, the basement interior was drab and filled with the comics of famed cartoonist Ben Wicks (an unfunny m@!%!**#~@#r, for sure), and the service was brutally slow.
We sat at an empty bar and ordered: 2 burgers and 1 order of wings. The time to eat was apprx 35 minutes. Wow. I inquired several times...

The cartoonist Ben Wicks made it famous, but Robert makes it fun. David runs the kitchen and makes the pub food great. Every time I go back to Toronto I stop in - it is my home away from home. Cold beer, great friends, good atmosphere - good food - who could ask for anything more? Ah yes... the darts...... more
My girlfriend and I stumbled across this place one night while we were walking around the neighborhood we were staying at. It was the most appealing place of the places we passed so we decided to try it out. It turned out to be a good decision.
The bar was set down in the street so you had to walk down some stairs to enter. There was a small outdoor area and a large bar that had a sort of...

Stopped in for a late dinner on a Sunday evening while staying at a guesthouse a few blocks away. From what I could tell it was empty inside and there was a smattering of customers outside on the patio. Seemed to have a variety of beer and wine and the food was pretty akin to pub grub. One dude was serving the whole patio and he seemed pretty nice and relaxed. My boyfriend and I ordered two... more
Good atmosphere, typical pub and decent prices. The food itself was very good and good value for money. The menu was varied, good portion size and I can thoroughly reccommend the "Fish and Chips". What did stand out was plenty of room, quiet areas, good size TV if want it and decent size bar for chatting. Will definitely go back... more
Great service & food. Enjoyed going there on our trips to Toronto. Thanks Robert, Benoit & David for making us feel like regulars - Hans & Dixie
For years, I lived not far from Ben Wicks and considered it my little secret. Everything is consistently good and nothing seems to change much in the place other than the art for sale on the walls. Meanwhile, the prices are decent and the neighbourhood vibe is refreshing in this big city. Sitting right up at the bar and chatting over a seemingly bottomless glass of house wine is a great way to... more
Bias. I have been visiting Ben Wicks since I was a kid.
The brunch used to be spectacular in the day. Heck it is a british pub needing a bit of tlc. The pot pie (when available) is awesome. The eggs and bangers and mash were also great. Service in recent years less so. The coffee (well Jetfuel is just up the street!) Really takes me back walking down into Ben Wicks and seeing the old cartoons...

Very typical pub grub, great service and even better staff. I would see myself spending more time having a pint here than enjoying the wings or nachos. The bar is lower level with a great outdoor patio. You can find original Ben Wick's art inside on the walls. Service and patio season will keep me coming back here.
Comfy atmosphere. By the same folks as much pricier Town Grill just up the street.
Formerly owned by Toronto Star cartoonist Ben Wicks, this restaurant strives to capture an authentic pub feel. How can you tell? The pub section of the restaurant seats twice as many as the dining room and the menu was created by one very homesick Cockney. Popular items include steak and kidney pie ($6.95), shepherd’s pie ($6.75) and bangers and mash ($6.50). No surprises yet! Decorated with... more
