Horrible! I love Indian food but this was not it. It tasted sour, overcooked, and the person I went to dinner with had a dish that made her spend the rest of our Girls' night feeling sick.
The host was cold and unwelcoming just like the decor of the place. There are stickers "decorating" the pillar, Indian style Marci Grad beads, weird decorations, the lights are dim but what we could see of...

The food was authentic, Indian. The vegetarian Thali plate had two curries and dahl with all the usual trimmings. The service was efficient. The prices reasonable.
We've been visiting the Ainsworth/Nelson area for the past 15 years or so. Our pattern is to stay at the Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort, spend time in the hot pools, and then venture to Nelson for good food and drink. However, My first ever appreciation of lamb vindaloo came from the Ainsworth Resort restaurant - it was the most delicious... more
My first time visiting Baker Street in Nelson, BC and my feet led me to the heavenly aroma of Baba's Indian Restaurant. The lovely hostess served the best curried chicken I personally have ever eaten. A must for travelers looking for authentic cuisine in the friendliest town in Canada!
Some of the best Indian food. We had a lovely Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese), plus a 'meat' special of the day... a type of curry chicken. Flavours were perfect. And the Dahl! My wife doesn't generally like Dahl, but she loved this one.....very flavourful. Our server was very attentive and friendly as well. A great lunch; we'll be back.... more
This friendly restaurant offers reliable food (I've been there many times) in a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. No starched tablecloths or fake turbans here - just good food. It is a favourite luncheon spot of local business people as well as families and visitors.
I have always enjoyed the palak paneer (Indian cheese with spinach) served with rice and pampadam. The...

A couple of days ago my wife and I had a very nice dinner at Baba's, sitting by a table on the sidewalk just watching the world of Nelson pass by. Very relaxing.
I ordered lamb vindaloo, a vegetable patty and a chipati. Excellent flavours and a good size...not too large. We had a couple of Nelson's finest hemp ales...

Having recently been to India, we were excited to find this restaurant in Nelson. The food was as delicious as we had in India, if not better because the seasonings were perfect. The tahli plates brought back such good memories. The portions were perfect. I always love tandoori chicken, but the menu has so many delicious options it was difficult... more
I too ate the vegetarian thali for lunch. It wasn't world changing... just ok Indian fare.
Hubby and I are curry fanatics and this place has drawn us back at least 8 times. Quaint little place with a great atmosphere and a very adequate menu. Portions are good, prices are reasonable and staff is very accommodating. The lamb curry is a must but I must say, I didn't like the Raita. It was sweet, thick and... more
Instant rice, slow service and bad attitude is what I got here. This place depends on business from customers with little to no prior experience to real Indian food. Btw the nan bread is greasier than whale blubber dipped in lard and the tandoori chicken was more burnt out than the shambala crowd spliffing up on Baker. And the owner, well, she made us feel like we're infringing on her time and... more
Noticed this one on a previous trip but didn't stop in. Decided to give it a try tonight and wow. The couple who run this restaurant do a great job! The food has some northern India and some southern India so a wide variety. We ordered three dishes with a side of naan and rice which is alot for 2... more
The lunch menu didn't fancy me and the cook noticed that and offered up the dinne menu. Lamb Curry was great and the pakoras were tasty. Rice seemed to be a few days old, dry. Cant wait to try them for dinner!
My group stopped in here on a whim, to satisfy me, pretty much. I love Indian food and I don't get many chances to eat it. My cousin was not terribly eager, as she had never had Indian cuisine before. The server was very patient with all of the questions she had to field and helped my cousin pick out... more
We really enjoyed our dinner here. The seasonings were perfect and the breads were all delicious! Great selection of beer. Our server was very knowledgeable and kind. Would definitely return!
We came here because as we walked by my husband loved the smell wafting out the doors! We had butter chicken, a very tasty soup and the samosas! Everything was amazing! Recommended!
We were a little disappointed about the food. It was not very tasty. Waitress was not very friendly. We noticed that te place was crowded
Fabulous lunch and good presentation. The service was great and the staff very friendly. Some dishes can be very spicy, however just ask when ordering and they are very helpful in suggesting a meal suited to your palette!
We've eaten in many different Indian restaurants and the food here was great! The freshness of the food was remarkable, and the flavors were amazing. There was limited sidewalk seating, so we sat inside. The décor isn't anything to write home about, but when the food is this good, who cares?!
I have eaten at many Indian restaurants around the world, and while there are many factors that can impact the experience, I find the taste of the food at Baba's to be up there with the very best.
The flavours were really nice and balanced. I am not a huge fan of Clove, and that was a pretty heavy flavour in the Lamb Rogan Josh, but other than that... really good! Nice buttery Naan bread.
Portions look small at first, but are very filling.
Awesome food, great service. Make sure to ask for the dish of the day, it was the best dish we ordered! Will definitely be back!
It's always a treat to go out where they make something better than what you can at home! Baba's flavours always deliver a true taste adventure. I suggest you let their knowledgeable waitress help you decide what to get. I always get something mild while my husband prefers hot (and I mean HOT!) Whatever your taste, everything we've had so... more
Food and service was great and that's what we were there for! Went with Vindaloo and a few beers to cool things down
Nuff said!
An occasional Monday smorg will do once every six months. The owner's wife is gorgeous. The restaurant is a dump for decor. Nothing more to add.
We love coming to nelson just so we can have dinner here! Of course there are many reasons. But this place is high on the list.
I've been eating a lot of Indian food lately, particularly in Chicago and this place is better! Sauces are full of flavor and spicy. Deeelicious. I overate.
I can't express how happy I am to have Baba's Indian Cuisine in Nelson. Not only is their food authentic but great tasting. My personal favorite is the butter chicken with an order of garlic naan bread. You can't go wrong with this!
the food was delicious and authentic -- the owner is the chef -- and the atmosphere is nice. service is good, and the food is made fresh. Ilan and Tali Rubin, Jerusalem
If you like spicy East Indian food, this is the place to go. The service was fast; try and get a table outside in good weather.
My vindaloo was perfect--not hot enough to burn the roof of your mouth, but spicy enough to enjoy the flavors. Throw in great rice and papadums, and it was a great meal!
After living in North India for several years, we're always searching out really good Indian food. Baba's is run by an Indian couple; she's from Rajasthan, he's from south India - but they serve mostly North Indian food. There's always a special, but after tasting their mulligatawny soup (which always comes with little slices of tandoori chicken at the bottom!),... more
Went here for dinner. They definitely did not use the microwaves - I was watching based on previous reviews.
Pros: good food, good variety, veggie options, good spice.
Cons: the naan was more of a pizza shape than naan shape. However, the taste was good.
I don't know what these other people are talking about.... I LOVE IT HERE and miss it all the time. i have been to indian food places all over the usa and canada and this is still my favorite. Sure the staff can be a little sour but come on... It makes it authentic. It is still my favorite and I can;t wait to eat there again this summer. Sure the menue is limited. But better to have a few good... more
We loved Baba's! We really didn't expect to find great Indian food in a small town but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was very flavourful and the service was very good.
My wife and I ate at "Baba's" a couple of days ago after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. We only had an hour to eat lunch and were going to go to a "fast food" restaurant but decided to gamble on a "sit down" lunch instead. Are we ever happy we did! We were seated quickly, out on their sidewalk patio.... more
We have been dining at Baba's once every couple of weeks since it opened years ago. Excellent food, great hardworking owner couple. Only criticism is a need for some more variation on the menu, a little experimentation and a little redecoration for improved ambience. Won't stop me going regularly still.
We went for the vegetarian thali here and it was great!
I had lunch and dinner at Baba's. I was in India last year and it is traditional food. Never disappointing.
We found this place last year and had to return. They did not disappoint, with amazing dishes, friendly service and super value. The food was delicious and well portioned - we sampled each others' dinners and it was an overload of variety in texture, flavor, spice - wow. To top it off, these folks are genuine in their joy for... more
Usually excellent food. Their thali plate special is usually excellent. Run by a young couple that take pride in the food they serve.
The mango lassi is a great compliment to the meal though they will do a salty lassi on request.
A family favourite. We are always made welcome and the food is consistently good and great value for money. Love the Thali.
Whenever we want to reminisce about the years we lived in India, we go to Baba's. The delicious food, ambiance and wonderful, friendly service bring it right back! They have terrific mulligatawny, served with slices of tandoori chicken and bits of papadum. The butter chicken is killer! Daily specials are always good.
Baba's is the only Indian restaurant in Nelson. It serves pretty decent food at reasonable prices and the owners are sweet folks. There are tables at the back that are more private and the lunch buffet is a pretty good meal. We go monthly.
I've had a decent bit of Indian food in the interior of BC, and this was the worst. I had a tomato-based dish that tasted like ketchup, the naan bread left something to be desired. I only went once, but based on that experience I do not recommend it.
Baba's is the only Indian restaurant in Nelson and while it isn't top of the line they serve pretty good food at a reasonable price. The dining room is a bit run down, but the atmosphere is fine. If you are eating alone, you'll be quite comfortable at a table or at the counter that looks out over Baker Street.... more
I've eaten Indian food in many different countries, but few have been as bad as this. Bland, insipid flavors, over-cooked meats, and even incorrect recipes (potato was used instead of chicken in one dish) - this was not a pleasant experience at all! There is a limited menu, which isn't usual at a good Indian restaurant, and there is no... more
Granted I have not been to all restaurants- but I ate here a year ago and again this year. The other restaurant I really liked burned down...
Everything we had was wonderful. I heard people complain about prices being a little high, but the only Indian food I have had that came close to this in quality ran about $60...

Our whole family loves Baba's! The food is amazing. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Children get extra special treatment and the prize is right! Highly recommended!
Love the food. A bit expensive but worth it. The thalis are a great way to sample a number of dishes. Mondays are buffet nights, good opportunity to try different dishes too Atmosphere is not quite traditionally Indian but I think it is cute. And the owners/cooks always greet us with big smiles.
Christopher and Anjoli provide excellent service and great Indian food with a Goan influence. They are gracious hosts and their food is fresh and very tasty, (and can be spiced to your individual preference). The atmosphere is warm and conducive to informal social exchanges while enjoying an impressive selection of reasonably priced a la carte menu listings.
I have yet to try something here that I haven't thought was delicious. My favourite recommendations would be the Butter Chicken and the Palak Paneer. Homemade dishes with fresh spices, friendly service, and decadent homemade desserts! They will even adjust the level of spiciness for you if you require. If you're going with a group, each person order a dish... more
I always have their lunch special - the Vegatarian Thali. It comes with raita and papadum as well as naan, and very tasty curries all separated on a traditional-style metal tray. Very good deal. YUM! The female server is really nice.
It's the only Indian in town- it's not bad, but it's not great- the Naan is not made in a tandoori and isn't that great. I know I am painting a bad picture, but it's really not that bad- Its just not the type of place I'd call one of my favorites
I loved this restaurant! For years I used to go to Nelson every month for 2 nights and I would all ways go to Baba's. Great atmosphere and the owners are great people. I would highly recommend.
Being my favourite cuisine, I've eaten Indian food in various places around the world, perhaps most memorably in the UK and India itself, and Baba's is consistently disappointing. I suspect that it has a fan base in Nelson simply because there is no competition. The menu rarely changes, is not expansive (as should be in a good Indian restaurant), and the flavours, which should shine through,... more
On Monday they have a small but delightful Indian buffet: papadams, rice, several vegetable dishes, chicken tandoori, chutney. We both felt it was some of the best Indian fare we have tasted. At $10.95 you can't go wrong. The other dishes were presented nicely as well. Service was perfect and friendly.
I didn't give it more stars only because it is a comfortable but not fancy atmosphere. But...
