One of our friends mentioned this restaurant - it's in a no-name strip mall int he middle of a neighbourhood, on a secondary street. We would never have known of its existence unless we went searching for a random Thai restaurant - or if our friend had not mentioned it.
I'm glad she did.
The food was yummy, well-prepared, fresh,...

The food here although slow to arrive at the table is always incredible and worth the wait.
The plates and presentation is always beautiful and the décor of the place is lovely.
the food is flavourful and fresh.
The mango salad is must try, and the Pad-Thai and Curry Chicken are also highly recommended.
First time here, took two bites from the dish and didn't like it. The pad Thai was way too sweet. When I asked the server to have the dish changed, she was practically barking in my face. Very uncomfortable experience. Even the cook came out and was screaming in my face. I was polite the entire time. Paid and left.... more
This place is always busy so make sure you reserve ahead of time! We had the chicken skewers and they wee delicious. We also had the chicken Penang dish and the Aubergine and chicken dish. Both ok but Penang curry one was much better.
Would visit again!!
Do not be fooled by the location. This small, strip-mall restaurant is worth visiting, over and over again. I particularly love the presentation at lunch. The server brings a divided dish and each section holds something delicious. It is not considered acceptable to do so but I would gladly lick my plate (should the opportunity present itself). The prices are... more
We eat at this place or take out often. We have gone for lunch and dinner. The quality of food is exceptional and consistent and we are never let down. Everything we have tried is great. Our out of town friends and relatives want to eat here at least once when they visit Ottawa. Make reservation as it is very... more
This restaurant is a hidden Gem. Upscale, without the upscale prices. I hesitate writing this review, as more people will find out about it, and it will be increasingly difficult to get a seat. LOL
After many unsuccessful restaurants opened and closed in this small Centerpointe strip mall, The Baan Thai opened up about 10 yrs ago, and we knew...

The food here is awesome. Presentation was nice, service was great. I would definitely come back for more!
Fantastic Thai food! They always have a daily special for $13.99 as well as regular menu options. Pad Thai is sweeter than some, but deish. Personal favourite is the the Panag with shrimp. Beyond exquistie.
Small, crowded restaurant, with great service.
Make sure you call to make a reservation. They are always full for any mealtime and you are often...

This restaurant is a regular for me and my boyfriend. The food is always fantastic and if you like spicy food ( we do) its fantastic.. a lot of there dishes have a great kick.. ( you can ask to have it toned down for people who don't like spice- however I'm not sure why you would go to a... more
We eat at the Baan Thai food restaurant regularly. The food is always fantastic. Most days you will need a reservation. The service can be sometimes a bit slow. Try the soup #10. It's to die for.
Quaint setting in a good neighbourhood. We've been going for the last 6yrs. It is not consistent: food, or cleanliness or service. Servers can have bad attitude at times. No competition in the area creates poor gratitude.
We only go because it is convenient and we order the minimal basics.
This is a smallish place with 25 to 30 seats, located is a small suburban strip mall in a quiet area.
The food is quite good conventional Thai, very flavorful and well presented. Prices are moderate, and the staff are delightful. It is quite popular, so reserve if you go for dinner.
They do a large amount of take-out here,...

Love this place! I go here often for take out since its so close to my house. Definitely worth a try if you love Thai food!
We thought this was an authentic small Thai restaurant. Beautifully cooked food with good colours and tasty sauces. Situated in small shopping area it only seats about 25 people, so if you are travelling a long way book! Set menu for 2 @ CND40 presented good value.
This evening my wife, her mother and I visited Baan Thai for the first time. We life about 1km. from this place but as it is off the main streets we had never even noticed the place before. Recently we have been trying restaurants new to us. Thai food, authentic Thai food, is one of our passions, we were enticed... more
I am from Toronto and when we visited to Ottawa we decided to take our kids to a Thai resturant. We choose to go Bann Thai for dinner. . When we reached there, it was 9:10 pm and when we were waiting to be seated, the waitress came and said 'kitchen is closing in 30 minutes' without any smile and... more
Weekday lunch, a friend suggested we meet in this surburban strip mall restaurant. As soon as you walk in, a beautiful atmosphere awaited us - a carefully decorated peacefulness. The menu offered a choice of rice and noodle dishes, all served with a splendid hot and sour soup. I had a spicy rice dish with eggplant and tofu. Exquisite. Getting... more
This is the best Thai in Ottawa. If you attempt to go during lunch...it's packed! Why? because it's amazing. It's very fresh so the food is very delicious! BUT this does mean, slow service. The service is generally slow/poor BUT the food is so delicious that it's worth it to put up with the service. The location itself is also... more
First time there...reccomended by The Charing House Gardens B&B.
Excellent food and service...was very pleased.
We went on a Saturday night with four friends. We were going to a dance at the Sportsplex later so one of our friends had searched for restaurants in the area and, knowing that we enjoy Thai and Vietnamese, came up with this little gem. We made reservations for when they open at 5:00. You should definitely have reservations. It's... more

Great gem out in the suburbs. Excellent food. Not too busy, great decor.
A family run Thai resatraunt that gives you excellent value and delicious food,Portions are just right and the quality of the food is outstsanding.
you must make reservations and do them far in advance..small seating capacity.
Would recommend this to both visitors and locals.
We ate here on a business trip. The food was pretty average, although the service was good. The food did not have the vibrancy of flavour I was expecting. It is not expensive.
I don't think I will come back.
Cons:
There were cold spots in one of the meals I hope it was not microwaved.
Rice and drink refills cost extra. Slow service at a timmed 27min wait for the main meal to arrive.
Pros:
Spring Rolls were the best I ever had and the flovours of the main meal was excellent. Nice and quiet atmosphere. I will visit...

Three of us went to Baan Thai last night before a show at Centrepointe Theatre. We made a reservation, which is highly advised. All of the food was amazing. I have a nut allergy so had to stay away from the Pad Thai and chose instead Gaeng Kua Supparod (pineapple & shrimp curry) - it was delicious. My mom and... more
We visited this place on a whim as we were in the area. Baan Thai is a quaint little place in a strip mall. Decor is definitely muted and they do turn down the lights as the evening darkens. Tables are probably a bit tight, and there are no booths or plush seating, just chairs and tables. However the colours... more
Great restaurant, buried away along Centrepointe drive. Friendly staff, authentic flavours. So far our favourites have been Tom Kha Gai, Gaeng Garee Gai (YUM!), Pad Khing, Guay Teau Lad Na, Kaow Pad - and of course their Pad Thai is near-perfect.
They also do delivery and takeout. So far only 1 bad experience with takeout where it took 45 minutes...

Lucky us. We usually order out as space is limited and we can walk the 100 yards for a wonderful meal that we can enjoy at our own table. Not that eating in is not a pleasure. A couple of years ago we had a friend visiting from Brasil who had been in Canada for about two weeks. It was... more
Excellent food and service. Great ambiance! I recommand this restaurant
Baan Thai has great food. We live in Ottawa, and this is our #1 choice for Thai food. We are not alone tho, so if you are going, be sure to make reservations!
PS - this restaurant is in the suburbs tho, so if staying downtown, it is probably a little far to go.
My wife and I happened to find this place in a strip mall. Tiny but doing a great business. Staff was efficient. Food was incredib;e. I had the $13.95 luncheon special - Beef curry, chicken with veggies, a spicy mango salad and a fried spring roll roll. My wife had wide noodles with chicken, also very tasty. Service was quick.... more
Great food! I didn't know I liked Thai food until I ate here.. Now I have to be careful to not eat it all the time :)
Went here recently for a working lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The prices were also reasonable. I had the lunch special and it was all great. I do echo some of the other reviews that mention slow service, hardly surprising given that there are two servers taking care of the entire restaurant. Reservations... more
We live very nearby and frequently go to Baan Thai to eat. The food is consistently excellent, however, it is a small restaurant, is often full, and when this occurs the service/speed seems to suffer. You just have to be patient at this place, because the meals are worth the wait.
This was our favorite restaurant from our old neighbourhood. There is no better Thai food anywhere. The decor and atmosphere can be calming and, at one time, perfect for Valentine's Day which is why we decided to go back.
The Thai food is still amazing, but the take out service has overtaken the restaurant. The mood was hectic throughout the evening...

On a recent weekend trip to Ottawa, we visited Baan Thai on a Saturday night - a desperation move when our son nixed the pub we'd chosen. The small dining room was packed, and a long line of take-out customers snaked from the bar - both good omens. Overall, we were delighted by the flavorful, plentiful portions served piping hot.... more
I've tried just about every Thai restaurant in the Ottawa-area and this one is consistently the best. Fantastic, authentic cuisine, a great selection of dishes and very tasty flavours. A small dining room so reservations are recommended, but well worth the visit.
I have hesitated to review this restaurant in the past because it's my VERY favourite Thai restaurant in Ottawa and I wouldn't want it to become too popular. The food is very authentic and as good as any I've tasted in Thailand. The vegetables are especially crisp, which is not always the case with Thai food that has been prepared... more
This is BY FAR the best thai restaurant in Ottawa! I've been to at least 8 others. My father, sister and i are regulars and love the Paad Thai (best i've ever had), coconut soup, yellow curries... actually all of there curries are to die for. The service is good to great, very friendly and always on top of things (filling glasses multiple times per seeting etc...). The restaurant is small,... more
A bit pricey for what you get. Nice atmosphere and courteous service. Main dishes were small portions while the appetizers were large. Peanut sauce for satay chicken was not so good. Have frequented this restuarant for over 5 years - always for lunch. Food quality has remained high but over the past 2 years the service level has deteriorated dramatically. Amazing Thai food in an out-of-the-way location (unless you live in Centrepointe). The Pad Thai is fantastic, and the selection is very nice. It doesn't have a huge vegetarian selection, but there is enough to satisfy. Service is good and take-out is available. Highly recommended!
Great food. Fills up quickly so a reservation is a must to avoid disappointment.
A small neighbourhood type restaurant with great food, and pleasant service. The place fills up quickly so call ahead for reservations
