Great Food, Great Service

A treasure spot that we almost didn't want to share.
Take out and sit in but it is very casual, quaint and on the small side. Appears to be a patio seating area so will gave to go back when it isn't -29C to check it out.

I'm gobsmacked reading some of the negative reviews of this place. Asteria is a great, unpretentious, family-run place that serves some amazing food - fresh salads, fantastic chicken souvlaki.
Service is friendly if not instant.
The decor is nothing to write home about - old framed pictures of Greece on plain plaster walls and the most basic of cafeteria tables...

Terrible Food Terrible Service
September 13, 2013Restaurant is terrible overall! I can literally not believe all the other reviews here...it doesn't make sense. There are many delicious places down the street and this just doesn't compare! Disgusting food, horrible service, building is horrible with dirty dingy stairs leading down to a horrendous bathroom....stay away!!!

Friendly and welcoming with good food and prices
July 18, 2013Asteria is a neighborhood eatery with a nice back patio area. You're welcome by family members as if you are part of the family. Food is plentiful and tasty, prepared simply. Prices are very reasonable. If you're in the neighborhood, try it for lunch. If the weather is nice, ask to be seated in the patio area.

Huge portions - come hungry

Best souvlaki on the Danforth.
Located conveniently just up the street from Chester subway.
The service is hit & miss, sometimes when it's busy it might be slower than usual.
Overall, great place, friendly service and most importantly DELICIOUS food!

The Asteria has the best souvlaki on the Danforth (Toronto's Greek neighborhood).

I've been coming here for at least twenty years an I'm not even from Toronto. Whenever I come to town I always make it a point to eat there at least once.
The Souvlaki is the best I've ever had anywhere. Also try the Saganaki... It is just fantastic!
The inside is big time dated so try and eat outside...

Let's be clear. We go for the food not the atmosphere or service.
It's cheap, large portions and consistent quality keep us coming back.
The cooks are old Greek men that know how to cook meat! Soooo good.
If it's authentic, great, Greek food you're after and not an overall dining experience, I give this 5 stars for it's category...
