Mmmm! This place is the bomb!
Amazing food, large servings, and a huge huge huge list of cocktails. Prices are fine (slightly on the higher side), and ambiance is nice. The only problem I have with this place is that the music is super super super super loud and so it makes conversations difficult. I'd understand if it were a club/bar but this place is meant to be a restaurant, and so it's the...

The other reviews are indeed accurate. The food isn't so great. You're forced to order something to eat because the proximity to a school doesn't allow L'Assomoir to be classified as a bar.
My recommendation for eats is the plantain chips. They're different and work well with a fancy drink.
When it comes to cocktails, however, these guys are tops. The drinks are all very well balanced and...

Before I get married I wanted to have my last lunch as a single lady. I decided to organize a massive lunch with all my friends and closer relatives. I thought that the perfect place was L'Assommoir because I wanted something very Canadian. I also thought that the best thing was a brunch. And after all I know I took the best decision. The best part is that you can make the reservation of the... more
Their food is really delicious. Sometimes, the music can be way too loud, and the service inattentive.
The most amazing cocktail list in Montréal. The only downside to this place is the very high prices of everything. They are 15-20% too expensive for that type of place.
Nice decor, tasty savoury small plates, extensive bar, and yet something seems to be missing for me. On Bernard the prices seem a little off for the neighborhood. They are clearly proud of what they do at L'Assommoir on Bernard to the point of perhaps being a little out of touch with the reality on the block. Put it this way - I live nearby and when choosing watering holes L'Assommoir rarely... more
L'Assommoir on Bernard street is a nice little restaurant if you are in the Mile-End hood. It offers a super long list of cocktails... so a good place if you are looking to have exotic drinks. It always takes me 20 minutes to decide what I'm going to have since there is so much choice. I usually go to L'Assommoir if I am in the mood for ceviche and tartare and for some reason, I always end up... more
Good food, good drinks, live jazz band, good ambience. What spoiled it for us was a waitress called Sylvie. Rude, arrogant, had an I-give-a-damn attitude. Such people shouldn't be in the service industry, they ruin a perfectly nice place by their attitude.
All hamburgers should be made out of foie gras.
All resto-bars should be full of gorgeous people.
Thankfully L'Assommoir has checked off both of these boxes.
Me and some good friends were looking for a place to get a drink and enjoy a nice girl's night out. We certainly weren't deceived with l'Assommoir, on Bernard Street.
Frist off, the bartenders give you a great customer service and are extremely charming. :-) Brownie points for this! (Which could very well explain why this bar has so many pretty women in it. ;-) )
But let's talk about the...

The food is interesting, alot of tartare and other funkier stuff. This resto also has a good selection of alcohol
Seriously, what do people in Montreal do to their women? They are gorgeous!!
Stumbled here for some drinks after a nice dinner at Bonaparte. It was a Wednesday night and the place had a good amount of people! At first, our large group was seated in the back at the round table. Not much going on back here. DJ was playing what sounded like French house music. Anything house related is good for...

Ok, I'll be honest. Food is c@!p. You should not be coming here for food, ever... why? BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST BAR IN TOWN.
Just count how many drinks they have on the menu! 100? 200? no, 300+
Ask them for specials and you will see your drink flying, burning, exploding, and doing all other weird things before getting in front of you. And its delicious, no matter what you order.
Ask if Mathieu...

Happened upon L'assoimmoir by accident one rainy spring weekend, after the brazilian place across the street informed us they weren't yet open, despite a party of three drinking there. Your loss, brazilian restaurant.
L'assommoir is an upscale bar eatery in the Mile End. Its name either comes from a Zola novel (a heartwarming tale about alcoholism) or the French term for gin joint. Either way,...

I LOVE this place but would never be able to afford it. I went twice with work.First of all they have really cool cocktails, one I ordered was I think a strawberry and basil martini. They specialized in grilled platters and ceviches. And everything is soooo good. Its a very trendy place and is considered a SuperClub. After a certain hour the music gets cranked up and people come here for dinks... more
The reviews are ranging from "Doesn't deserve to be called a restaurant" to "The best Sangria of my whole life". One thing is certain, you'll probably find there the most exhaustive drink menu of your whole life. I honestly think that their menu is about 20 pages. Original drinks, tasty and very diverse. It's worth to go even for this very only reason. For example, their pink pepper and... more
L'Assommoir is a Small plates, Tapas, and Mediterranean restaurant where most Menuism users came for a business meeting, paid more than $50, and tipped between 15% to 18%.
