I was hesitant to stay here because of some of the reviews but was very impressed by how each bad review was promptly answered so we decided to try it. First of all, the photos are a good representation of the rooms. The room was large, quiet and very clean-I checked it out thoroughly! The bedspread looked new and there... more
We stayed in a suite with a separated living space and bedroom, very roomy. Prob wasn't the cleanest place in the world, but it was fine. The internet didn't work and when I went down to reception to see if there was a problem they didn't seem to be bothered enough to fix it. Restaurant was very good but was... more
I've been impressed each time I've stayed here at the effort the owner is putting into improving the property. The furniture is beautiful solid wood, the fixtures are high quality, the masonry on the exterior is really nicely done. The rooms have always been clean and the staff are nice. It has definitely avoided the depressing half-baked renos seen on... more
The Aspen is a great place to stay, was in Smithers for 5 nights for sons Hockey School, very close to arena, the room was clean and large, had 2 double beds and a set of bunk beds. Staff was very friendly, and accommodating, allowed me to extend our check out time by 2 hours. Restaurant was also very good
Do not be fooled by the nice photos on line they DO NOT REPRESENT the actual place. The bedspreads/comforter were old, lumpy and appeared to have seen better days a long time ago, thankfully we had extra blankets and did not use the provided comforters..there was a noticeable odour upon entering the room of dirty carpet, nothing in this room... more
I have stayed here a few times but never really noticed how c@!%!y the WIFI is until this visit. I have been disconnected once every 10 or so minutes. The hotel has a restaurant on site but does not offer room service. Really? You don't think it would be that hard to figure out. The room is tidy and clean... more
Because of my job I stay there at least twice a week. Since the beginning of this year, their wi-fi has not worked properly. It continuously disconnects. After repeated complaints to the front desk staff, it still has not improved. I think good internet service has become as much of a mainstay as TV in hotel rooms these days and... more
The room was what one would expect from a typical small town roadside motel. However it was comfortable and clean. The staff were really nice and as value for money there are no complaints. The breakfast was hearty and again the staff make or break any establishment. The servers here again were very friendly and made one feel welcome.

Started off good, clean, comfy beds, pet friendly. Awoke in the morning at 7:30 to loud diesel trucks outside of the room idling, and the smell of diesel filled the room. This is life in a northern motel in the winter, I guess.
Had a drink and nachos at the bar the night of the stay and they were tasty....

Stayed here in January with a group of girlfriends for a ski weekend. Aspen Inn is good value - not fancy, but clean sheets and towels, and comfy beds. The staff were very accommodating, assisting with some changes to our reservation, and allowing a later checkout. Hot tub and sauna were great for after skiing. We had a suite with... more
Similar to other reviews, we received a very smokey and not very clean room. Staff were accommodating and quickly provided a new room which was better. Dark, but sufficiently clean.
Unfortunately I didn't check every drawer in the room when we checked out and I forgot some clothing. I contacted the Aspen Inn by email and their first response was...

My collegue and I recently stayed at the Aspen Inn for a work trip after the Sandman Inn had sent us away after overbooking their hotel (which happened more than once on this trip), but boy am I glad we ended up there instead.
The staff were so incredibly friendly and accomodating right off the bat. They recommended where to...

We'd taken a passing look at the Aspen Inn from the outside on our way through to Terrace, so we felt confident in booking it for our return trip. Unfortunately the room was dark and rundown (probably a result of use by construction & oil workers). Nevertheless, the beds were comfortable. We received a voucher for breakfast in the attached... more
Stayed here back in June with my grandson. we were on our way to Alaska. Booked a room and it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. I returned to the desk and requested another room and was allowed to check it but it also smelled of cigarette smoke. At this point I gave up and we ended up staying in the... more
Hard to get the room comfortable, the heating system cooked us out even on the lowest setting ... I finally set it for AC and opened the window (it was 32 degrees outside) Beds fairly comfortable... bathroom too small, Resturant a bit pricey but good food. every thing you need you can walk to... more
We stayed here 7 years ago and returned on our way north to the Alaska Ferry in Prince Rupert. Nothing has been upgraded or improved in the rooms during the 7 year interval.

We enjoyed two nights at the Aspen Inn. Two double beds in room were comfy enough. Pool and hot tub are not big but are sufficient and hit the spot after a day out of doors. The breakfast was delicious both days and it's nice that it's included - you just need to pick up the coupon from the front... more
Aspen Inn is a very sad and tired property. The only "suite" thing about it was leaving. The room was dirty and dingy. The carpet is old and dirty. The heater is a health hazard and had only two settings, freezing and boiling. I felt like I was coming down with a sinus infection when I left. The bathroom was... more
Have stayed here a few times while in town for skiing and visiting friends and I've had a good experience every time. The ladies at the front desk are friendly, the rooms are cozy, and you get a breakfast coupon for the restaurant beside it, the restaurant has awesome food too!
I have stayed myself, and have had numerous friends and family stay, swim and eat at the ASPEN in Smithers, all with nothing but fantastic service, food and customers are always dealt with in a timely fashion. I highly recommend this place to stay while traveling through Smithers, whether you are fishing for steelhead, need a quick place to stay,... more
When we arrived we were given, what can only described as a dingy cupboard. it had a small window opposite a brick wall. It was dark, unwelcoming and appeared in need of updating and renovation. We refused the room and were offered what we were told was the only other available room. That too was dark and dreary but at... more
I stayed here for work. Usually when I travel I go hunting for the swankier choices but for work I don't so much. The old air... more
The staff was friendly and accommodating of my request. The room was relatively standard, with a good shower. I wanted a standard room with 2 beds, but none were available, so I got the suite, which I then realized only had one bed and a couch. I got an extra blanket from the front desk and slept on the couch,... more
We stayed here overnight en route to Prince Rupert. Staff were friendly but the room was cramped & dark. Could do with much better lighting. The room was reasonably clean but the outside stairs & walkway were pretty dirty. The staff is accommodating to and helped secure my last minute reservation. From the front desk to the servers at the on-site restaurant and lounge especially, Patricia B, to accommodate my requests. Great service and so helpful to ensure my needs were met.
Great place to stay in Smithers!

Loved the inn, clean and felt cozy, The restaurant has great food, a bit slow for food service, though. Why does this review have to be so long? TripAdvisor has never heard of brevity?
Grrr grrr grr... the restaurant had interesting memorobilia of the area around Smithers.
We stopped over a night in Smithers and stayed at this hotel. We called in advance and booked a room with no problems. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was clean but a seemed a little old. The restaurant just next door was good and the hotel gave a voucher to use there. The food was really good.... more
I was very specific when I booked my accommodations over the phone because I was booking two rooms and needed a ground level room for my and my two children. It is always a pleasure to stay at this hotel. Friendly, warm, hospitable service always. When we stayed it was at the same time as 2 hockey teams stayed and they allowed their children to run wild until 2 am disturbing guests. The staff at the hotel still handled this professionally and I will still be glad to return.
I had the opportunity to stay at the Aspen Inn a couple weeks ago. What a charming place. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals in the restarant were amazing. Each stay has just been very pleasant and I have return on every trip during 2011. Reading the other visitors comments it is evident that the majority agree. It is defiantly the most comfortable place to be in Smithers. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Jade was very personable and did such a good job the whole evening. My drinks were full all night. It was perfect.
The rooms here are really nice, comfortable and very clean. The Aspen riverhouse restaurant and lounge has great food and very personable staff especially Amy
The outside photo is perhaps the best thing about this place. The rooms are older but clean, with that older mildew smell.

The Aspen is a very nice place to stay, despite the slight indifference of the person checkign me in. The rooms are clean and spacious, it is quiet, despite being right on the "main drag". The pool and hot tub are lovely and actually are what keeps me comign back to thsi hotel.

Smithers, for many, is likely to be just an overnight stop on the way to Alaska or, as in our case, to the Inside Passage ferry from Prince Rupert (or on the way back).
