Yes, it exists. This is a pretty decent dining experience in terms of food quality and authenticity. Shanghainese style food. Try the beef in bread wrapped in foil (there's a better name for it). Staff could be friendly but visit for the food.
A “fantastic selection” of “authentic” Chinese eats (including “soup dumplings from heaven”) gives chopsticks “a real workout” at this “popular” chainlet; sure, service can be “spotty” and seating often “cramped”, but the “reasonable prices” and “consistent” quality mean they’re often “bustling.”
Asian Legend has a large menu of banquet dishes and every time I go I think about trying a new dish - but never do. I always get the usual suspects because not only are they not easy to find foods, they are just so superbly done. First up on the list is always the steamed soup filled juicy pork dumpings ($5.50), or to mix things up, the steamed soup filled juicy pork and shrimp dumplings... more
The food at this restaurant was pretty average. They had a nice variety, but the quality was just like every other restaurant out there. The service though was terrible. They would not even look or speak at you, they would just nod their head for your order. And when you would ask what something is, like meat floss (which was... more
Really amazing authentic northern Chinese food in a lovely clean and modern environment. Good value too.
Excellent Chinese particularly the dim sum. Really good food in a lively atmosphere. Very reasonably priced too.
This is good for children and adults. We have eaten here several times and it has been fresh and delecious. I like the green with garlic and the fried dumplings and everything else.
Like most of Chinese restaurants, Asian legend, too, has a huge menu. If you love Chinese food, you will love this restaurant. Comfortable, clean seats, professional service and reasonable price.
Must try:
Rolled Onion Pancake with Sliced Beef
Fried dumplings, aka pot-stickers
Steamed buns filled with Pork & Luffa
And my personal favorite:
Braised Chinese Meat Balls with Chinese Mushroom,...

A sunny but still chilly Sunday in March we were looking for a good dim sum downtown restaurant in Toronto and chose the Asian Legend, located perfectly in the centre of Old Chinatown on the north side of Dundas Street West close to Spadina Avenue, just east of Huron Street. The service was friendly and fast, and the food was... more
I have been here multiple times, and it has never failed to impress! The food is always fresh and tasty and always full of flavour. The portion sizes are also good for the price. I have had the hot and sour soup (small is good for 3-4 people), steamed shrimp dim sum (5), pork soup dumplings (6), spicy shredded beef,... more
We ate at the location on Yonge Street, north of Sheppard. The menu is long and everything we had was pretty good (too much garlic in the shredded beef for my taste). Price is quite reasonable. Here's the odd part ... we were there on a Thursday and it was fairly busy. At about 7:45 the staff came out and... more
my hubby and I aren't big fans of asian food but we decided to try this restaurant. We were surprised how good the food was. First, the place and the staff are nice. On each table, warm teapot is already there waiting for you. We didn't know how generous plates were so we ordered more than we could eat. We... more
This Asian legend in downtown Toronto was also a great location for dining in and take out. I had a craving for a noodle that i wanted to enjoy on my 12 noon train ride out of Toronto. The shanghai noodle was nicely packaged in a container that did not leak. Had a set of chopstick and the necessary towels... more
Took my friend for lunch after a few less than exceptional dim sum experiences in the burbs last week. He loved it.
Had the hot and sour soup, the soup dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings and the spicy shredded beef. Everything was served hot, fresh and was delicious. Best northern Chinese food in Toronto!
This very popular ChinaTown fav is always busy, but never fails to deliver generous portions, at very affordable prices. Soups and dumplings are particularly good. Mu Shui pork also a good bet.
Had lunch here and based on online reviews I chose the deep fried chicken and the onion beef pancake. Both were delicious! They were served with a pot of asian tea which appeared to be a good digestif. Service was a bit rushed and sloppy but its part of the chatacter of the place I suspect.
This place is cute, in a great location, clean and super tasty. We went for dim sum and split the pork buns, beef wraps and soup dumplings. All terrific and fresh and server hot.
We love that you sit down and tea is already at your table.
A great stop!
This place is truly one of the great finds on our trip to Toronto. It offers a great dining experience with a variety of dishes from northern Chinese cuisine. The staff are very friendly and caters to your every needs. The deep fried squid, the fried chicken and tofu with garlic are a must have.
Get there early because the...

We asked a clerk in one of the Toronto Chinatown shops about her favorite restaurant, and she suggested Asian Legend so we went there. Good choice!
We knew we were in for a treat when we saw that we were the only non-Chinese diners. The menu is extensive and features cuisine prepared in a northern Chinese style. Some of the...

Went to Asian Legend with some family members who are regulars there, and permitted them to order for the group. The food was incredible, especially the wonton soup, which is a bit of a reversal since the soup comes inside the noodle. The atmosphere upstairs was noisy, but the number of people there is a testament to the quality of... more
The foodie in me has to always make a stop at Asian Legend in Toronto. I took my family there on a recent trip and was pleased that everyone enjoyed their meal. All of the kids enjoyed the Hot and Sour Soup, asked for more, the Shrimp dumplings, noodles, just everything we ordered. The service was excellent. Worth the trip... more
Over a 5 day period, we ate 2 dinners at Asian Legend, a restaurant specializing in the light, clean tastes of Northern Chinese cuisine. Fabulous soup dumplings, not obtainable in our hometown. Xi-Hu soup with minced beef and egg whites -- weird sounding but wonderful and authentic! Casserole dishes and stews for comfort food. A new dish for us --... more
A favourite Toronto Chinatown dim sum destination.
Outside of the usual dim sum classics, I tend to order more of their northern Chinese-inspired dishes, such as Steamed Soup Filled Dumplings with Ground Pork, Rolled Onion Pancake with Sliced Beef, and so on.
Also, their Millet Congee is highly recommended, as well as a very accomplished Hot & Sour Soup with...

Birthday dinner celebration. Heard this place was very good, and it was.We ordered chicken wings, beef filled pancakes, steamed and fried dumplings, tofu, chicken cashews, green beans, ribs, snowpea sprouts etc. portions were good, not greasy or salty like many of the Chinese restaurants. Service was speedy, courteous, and efficient. We brought a birthday cake, plates were provided along with... more
Smack in the middle of Toronto's Chinatown is this modern restaurant that looks like it caters to non-asians but was filled with locals. We really enjoyed our food, though we seriously over ordered. The section of the menu titled dimsum is deceiving in terms of portion size. The pork soup dumplings and scallion pancakes were delicious, while the pan fired... more
This is a great choice for dim-sum in the center of the city. The food is tasty and fresh. The quality is good, on par with NYC dim-sum, but not quite the quality of the real deal in China proper.
You get many varieties of dumplings, noodles, soups and all the staples you crave if you love Chinese food..
I've been to this location before and have always enjoyed the food. This time the review is mixed. Our waiter really knew the menu..I was impressed. Our food came quickly and it wasn't as noisy as usual so I was happy. I ordered Mango Chicken which was really, really good and not as sweet as the description might suggest. My... more
Consistently good, great service, nice dinning room and the food is always good. More a winter spot for us, warming soups, dumplings and noodles. Very family friendly, our kids love it.
Very good. Watch your ordering, we ordered 4 mains + entrees for 4 and could've got away with half our order. Can recommend the sweet n sour chicken.
The food was good, especially the dumpling and the deep fried tofu. Some dishes were a bit too salty. But we were disappointed by the rudeness of the waiter. We asked to have the left over dishes packed to take home, as my daughter is living on her own in the area and these will be perfect for her next... more
I can not say enough about the excellence of the food in this restaurant. The service is good but a little abrupt at times becuase they are all very busy. This is the best value for your money. Group of 4 persons, 4 dishes including dessert and with tax and tip comes to 11.00 a person. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
My first encounter with Asian Legend was in North York, but atlas! over the years the cooking and food quality had gone downhill and I abandoned ship there and then. I only started going to the Dundas store this year when I moved to living downtown. The experience reminded me a lot of the North York Asian Legend, I even... more
When i take people here for chinese they are hooked, the taste and quality of the food are second to none. I also love to get it to take home. The servers are also very attentive, filling glasses and clearing the table when the dish is done. They are also helpful with menu choices.
Our family (with three small children) went here for lunch before hitting the AGO. It was pretty good Chinese food. There were a lot of the standard Canadian Chinese dishes, although with much better flavour and none of the non-descript tapioca starch based goopy sauces found in most Canadian Chinese restaurants. In addition, there were a number of interesting dishes... more
The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was nice and modern. Very clean! Good service. Yummy.
Went there for Friday night dinner, waited about half an hour at 8:00 but I'm glad we waited it out! We're big fans of Shanghainese food, and theirs is very good & authentic, had the dishes we've been craving. Service was efficient & friendly, but it's all about the food here & we'll definitely be back for more.
I went for a weekday lunch with friends from work and we had a great meal of soup stuffed dumplings, eggplant and tofu, green onion pancakes (conderer getting 2 orders as they go fast), a noodle dish, mango chicken with coconut milk sauce (not very Chinese but a nice change of pace). Cost per person: $17 including tip

I came here with a group of 20 people. We ordered a range of dishes for the table, including appetizers, dim sum and mains. Everything we ordered was freshly prepared, tasty and attractively presented. For the size of our party and the amount we ordered the bill was quite reasonable. Service was quick, responsive. Will definitely go back.
I've read the unflattering reviews, most relating to the price. It is unrealistic to compare this restaurant to any other restaurant in Chinatown because you will not find another restaurant in Chinatown with clean washrooms and trendy modern decor. You need to compare this restaurant to Spring Rolls. In my opinion, Asian Legend is heads and shoulders above the quality... more
Nice food, very large portions. Helpful waiter suggested we ordered less and we still didn't finish it all! Meal for 3 with a drink was $45.
I go here at least once a month so I'm not new to this restaurant. I love thier steamed pork soup dumplings, they're always made fresh and come out steaming hot so watch out, or they'll burn your lips!! They're always so juicy and flavourful! I love this restaurant! Good food... more expensive than other Chinese restaurants in chinatown. Decor is very nice, and the service is good.
Try the chunky beef noodle soup.
do not accept reservations for smalll group. long wait in line. food is good, service is fast.
Pretty good Chinese food - try the rice cakes
Decent mix of "authentic" Chinese-style dishes and Canadianized dishes. Presentation of the food is nice. And while you won't be wowed by the place (or any of them, as there are a few), it offers good quality at reasonable prices in an interesting decor. Try the more authentic Chinese style dishes for something different and interesting.
good northern chinese cuisine in an unusually clean and well designed environment for the area.
Great Dim Sum, Good Prices. Terrible, I mean really terrible, service. Been six times. Ordered steamed white rice six times. Never, I mean never ever, received the steamed rice.
One of the better Chinese restaurants in Toronto; very nice interior, although better in top level than bottom; food generally quite good; service is OK, but inconsistent
Don't be fooled, this is a chain restaurant. But hey, it's clean, very clean, for downtown Chinatown.
Asian Legend plays on the paradigm of traditional Chinese cooking in a shimmery modern space, and it works: come on a Saturday night and the line is out the door, as young Chinese expats and multicultural Torontonians shuffle in front of the restaurant on the Dundas strip, many of whom will tell you that they grew up going to one of Asian Legend’s locations around the GTA. Northern cuisine but... more
