We loved our stay at the Ambassador Hotel, the hotel was clean and updated and we loved that there was so much to do onsite. The kids loved the waterpark area, us grownups loved the eucalyptus steam room and the sauna and after dinner everyone had fun in the arcade. We arrived around 11 pm but there were plenty of staff to help. Room was clean and comfortable. No complaints. It isn't in a particular picturesque area of town but that wasn't important for us as we were leaving the next morning

Not good value

Would NEVER stay at this hotel again! Dirty, needs painting, room smelled. Really bad value......way overcharged for the conditions of this hotel.

Conference smokers

The only significant negative was the continual cluster of smokers near the West Tower entrance due to a conference. Three phone calls to the front desk barely budged them. Only until they removed the ashcans, did they stop. But that was after the third time! So unpleasant to walk through, and to smell in the lobby as well as in the hall.

I spent 2 nights here and would recommend it for value and location. The restaurant was just okay, had the fish and chips, but the fish was mostly batter. Good service and friendly staff. I would go here again as the pool and hot tubs were very relaxing after a busy day.

An abysmal room in terms of size, decor (since when is 'grey' paint in?!). It appears that Ambassador reserves its low-class rooms for Expedia customers. Upon entering the room, the floor runs slightly downward. And off to the side. Level? Not! First impression was that the hotel and amenities were nice. Pool area is nice. Room cleanliness was disappointing. Air conditioner was old and noisy. Wedding guests from the conference center were rowdy in the parking lot in the early hours of the morning, people running in the hall, trains passing by right next to hotel, so overall not a restful stay unless you are a sound sleeper.

A little bit noisy

The rooms in the front row, faces main road, are pretty noisy. The rooms on the back row, faces the water facility, so you can hear the noise from its vents and get the air with pool smell.

Disappointing

The hotel was a little dingy and further from downtown than I expected. However the hotel staff was excellent. For the price we paid for the room in this mediocre hotel, I would have expected breakfast to be included.

Mattress very firm and uncomfortable

Hotel was nice with the exception of the very firm and uncomfortable mattress. If you are used to a newer pillow top mattress, then this hotel is not for you. Had the worst night sleep because the mattress was so hard and firm. Time to update and get some new mattresses!

Served its purpose

I was there for one night, attending a conference downtown. It served this purpose just fine. I took the express bus to and from downtown both days I was there. It stops very close to the hotel.

I wish room had bar fridge, TV was awkward to use, food & drinks was over priced, my dinner meal tasted crapy, not conveniently located. The room was quiet and had comfortable bed.

Lifesaver in bad weather

We had planned an outdoor birthday party for our young daughter but the weather did not cooperate. We were grateful that the facilities at the Ambassador allowed us to host a pool party indoors. Everyone had a great time.

Close to our event trip purpose

For the rate paid, we found the room to be very small. We booked at this hotel mainly for the pool and hot tubs, only to not be able to use either of them. One hot tub was drained and out of order and the other hot tub was so cold, as well as the pool. Did not use either. Never been in a hotel with pools or tubs so cold. Will not book or recommend this hotel again.

Convenient location

While not downtown the hotel is reasonably close to the highway so if you are looking for a place for a night or two it isn't too bad. As for cost, I have stayed in nicer places for less, but generally those places are not your typically tourist destinations.

Recommendations

Went with teenage boys. Suggestion to include activities for older kids such as pool table, shuffle board. This was something the boys mentioned they wished it had. Water slide was fun but too small for kids older than 12 yrs.

Nice hotel close to downtown

The hotel was great as well as the staff. A few hours after we checked out we realized that we left an I-pad in the room. When we called the staff was great in locating it right away and putting it away so we could pick it up later. Luckly we were still in town. Rooms were maintained daily and kept cleaned as well as lots of towels.

Our stay was excellent . to improve I would suggest removing carpets in rooms...pool should be heated before it opens at 9:00. No Enough Parking for handicap

Paid way to much for way too little. Will not stay here again. They have more check in parking right by the doors and one or two parking for handicap not even close to the doors. And don't forget the overflowing ashtrays right by the entrances.

Hotel.com and the Ambassador did not provide any written or oral communication that that they do not provide cot for a double queen bed. As the result our had to sleep on the floor that night.

Room near dumpster

We stayed in room 256 wich was above the dumpster: staff put garbage in during the night and employee took the garbage out in the morning. Room had no draperies, this room should not be rented at that price to hotel.com customer

My husband and I stayed in a small simple room without a fridge nor a microwave.We found the room not worth the money we paid for. Outside window was a wall of another building. Worst of all, bathroom floor had some hair from previous guest. We asked for another room but the new room also was not clean, there were hair and a clipped nail on the bathroom floor. I wouldn't go back there again.

Great service & follow up with clients

I stayed several times at the hotel during a year. The service and rooms are great, especially the breakfast personnel. If there was a problem I was changed rooms without an issue, especially that I am a light sleeper. In addition, I was able to get upgrades & they follow up with their clients. That is a plus for me.

Dark and in need of a facelift. This hotel hasn't kept up with the times. Front desk staff are always pleasant and helpful. Conference food is terrible. No one wants high-salt, high-fat pseudo- Chinese or -Mexican food anymore.

Clean, compact and convenient

We stayed here in December 2013 after a concert downtown. The basic one queen room was clean and recently renovated. A great deal for Kingston at only $99. Not that close to the awesome downtown area but it's only a short cab or car ride away.
