I really love this place. it has some great food options. the seafood here is very fresh and tasty. Tried Grilled Salmon and it was delicious. The steaks here are great too. I have tried the Rump Steak and found it to be excellent. They have great service, too!
Been 4 times and all 4 times were great fast friendly service a great decor and fantastic food! This place is doing steak right not much else I can *on are second visit my wifes order got mixed up and they comped us her meal very good people*
Al's has closed this Bells Corners location, but the location on Elgin Street downtown remains open.
Took our son and his family here one night while we were in town. They were accommodating for the 4-year old which is not always the case. The staff attention was average yet ensured that our needs were met quickly. The restaurant was busy, so that may account for some of our impression.
Food was served at the proper temperature...

I heard a lot of buzz about Al's Steakhouse (on Elgin Street) but sadly I was extremely disappointed by the food. The service was fine, but the food was tasteless. (The decor could definitely use updating- but I was less concerned about that!) My husband ordered a filet mignon and I ordered the filet with shrimp. The filet mignons were... more
Just came back from dinner and was very disappointed. Large party that came after us received their food first while my 3 yo had no food served for more than an hour. Food was not what we ordered bad cuts of meat and server did not check on us. Expected better. Not coming back.
Having that info on the web site would be helpful, save people like me from wasting our time driving over there. On the site there is a lunch menu, location info etc, but that kind of important detail (not opening for lunch) is no where to be found. Annoying.
My wife and I just had a dinner at Als in west Ottawa. I have been here on many occasions and have had countless steak dinners at many restaurants. This is the first time that i have sent a steak back, Both of them. The meat smelled like poop! it was rancid! The waitress took the cost of one steak... more
Took my family of 5 to an early dinner last Saturday. We ordered NY Sirloins, petite filets and sides of scallops and lobster tail. None of it was fit for consumption. My 16oz sirloin smelled rancid. It never should have been put on the grill! We will never eat here again.
Even on valentines day at AL'S a server cannot be respectful and nice. You would expect that for a place this expensive, the service would match up! Not at Al's. The service was terrible and Food took a very long time. I would not recommend it.
Had our Xmas supper a few days ago with a group. Service was very nice BUT FOOD WAS TERRIBLE. After all these years and Al's restaurant still cannot cook a proper steak. I asked for medium rare and my very small steak was medium, tasteless and hard to chew. Ate one bite and left the rest. You would think a... more
My friend had made reservations for our group of 12 more than a month in advance and they cramped us in a small corner. Service was not provided with a smile. Steak was good, rest of the food very average for the price. Will not return.
The atmosphere was great, specially for a group or for couples. But I expected more for the price they were charging. Nothing was spectacular, and the side dishes didn't qualify as steakhouse sides. Sides you would get at the Keg. You may enjoy it once, but if you're on a budget and choosing a place to for a special occasion,... more
My wife treated me to a wonderful night out for my birthday, she organized it with my friends which was a great treat. We all (wife and friends) enjoyed our meals and the service was superb. The waitress was fun and had a great personality which is rare to find. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have... more
This review is about Al's on Elgin Street.
The whole place is just depressing from the uninspired and bland décor to the service to the food.
Our server was slow, cold and unfriendly as was most of the attending staff. We waited forever to have her come over and take our order and her attitude more than anything else spoke...

The steaks are excellent but that's it. The shrimp were not properly cleaned in the shrimp cocktail. The veggies were undercooked. For the price everything should be good not just the steak.
While the atmosphere seems to cater to an older crowd, the food at Al's was quite good. My husband and I were with a large party (about 20 people) and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the 5 ounce fillet mingon and it was cooked perfectly and had a nice accompaniment of vegetables. The staff were very accommodating for our... more
The steak was not that great, have had better. Service was average and food average. Biggest thing i did not like was when i was eating a man at the bar every second word was F this and that. No one told him to not swear out loud like he did. Fortunately i did not pay much as i got... more
I write this review in utter disgust.
Three weeks ago, eight of us went to Al's for a family birthday. Two of us ordered the filet mignon which, upon it being served to us was clearly not a filet. The meat was tough with tendons and sinu throughout, and for anyone who has had steak in their lifetime, it would...

Fries tasted odd and bland (Actually almost completely tasteless). Steak was good in parts, though not cooked to order and not particularly thick - charred despite ordering medium. French onion soup was good. For the prices paid and the excellent atmosphere and friendly service, I expected the food to be much better than it was. The menu selection was right... more
Had a lunch meeting here yesterday. The back part of the restaurant was quiet, so it was a good setting for our meeting. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. I had a house salad that came with the meal and it was a basic, simple iceberg lettuce salad with store bought dressing... more
My husband and I go to a lot of restaurants (The Keg, Milestone’s, Montana's). This restaurant is NOT worth your money. Food was terrible. Fries were cooked in old oil and had really bad smell/taste. The salad was dry, with BAD ranch dressing. Steak was 5/10. Just as a comparison the Keg makes 8 or 9/10 steak. Overall, place is... more
This resaurant was suggested to us because of it's long standing (80 years) in the city. Don't let that fool you.
The ambience is lovely and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. That's all I can say that is possitive.
Of course, being a steakhouse, you'd expect the steaks to be the focal point. If that 's the case,...

My girlfriend owed me a "nice night out," due to me picking up the cost of some great concert tickets - and we decided to make Al's our choice for this special dinner. Our evening was special and memorable. First of all the service was beyond excellent. I'm not sure who our attendant was that night - but she was... more
We always go to AL's downtown on Elgin st. for special occasions ( 10 x per year min), I love the food. service and the atmosphere. I have on occasion went to the Bell's Corners location and was so disappointed!! .. the food is somewhat the same but the atmosphere is more like a dinner and the service is terrible.... more
We have given this place many tries over the years. It is really just not very good. I do not know what people find good about this place! Vegetables were so overcooked they were mush. Steak was horrible - not up to "steakhouse" quality.
We celebrated my husbands 50th birthday this weekend at the Bell's Corners location. The meal was very good, the only complaint maybe was that the bread should have been brought out earlier , mostly for the little toddler we had there. The steaks were great, the seafood dishes awesome and the appetizers were to die for. Worth mentioning though...the waitress... more
We generally go to Als for many New Years Eve suppers with a group of people and for Anniversary Celebrations. Good service and friendly people and good food, but not cheap.
65th birthday party in Bells Corners location. Great to see everyone, until they brought out the food. Cold, tough, not seared -- looked like 10 year old's first attempt at BBQ. To be avoided at all costs, which are considerable by the way.
Al's Steakhouse is a favourate of ours and has been for the past 34 years.
Service is excellent and the food is always wonderful and cooked to order.
The dim lighting sets for a very romantic atmosphere, accompanied by soft music in the background. Generally suited for the more mature population.
Not really a hip hang out for the young
Had a very enjoyable meal here. This restaurant has been around for many years but the quality and atmosphere still is excellent.
What a way to ruin a valentines Day. It was way over priced, and the Al special was not so special, it was an everyday run of the mill steak. The salad was all lettuce with a couple of things thrown over top of it. We were in the older part and nothing but a small candle, I had such... more
My girlfriend and I had the most horrible experience at Al's. every time I hear there ad on the radio I laugh. Best steak in ottawa?? Maybe 30 years ago. We ordered stuff mushrooms for apps. They were so bad. always having to chase the server down I spent most of my meal without a beverage. Both steaks were nasty.... more
I just came home from enjoying an evening at Al's Steakhouse in Bells Corners. It was a 95th birthday celebration for my grandmother. Everything was lovely! Our server, May, was very efficient and friendly. She surprised us at the end of the meal by bringing a complimentary dessert with a candle in it for my grandmother. For appetizers our table... more
Al's Steakhouse was recommended to us by our hotel as one of the best in Ottawa. It was convenient to our hotel so we decided to try it, although we were warned that it was expensive.
When we arrived, we saw a family with young kids hanging around the entrance, so we asked to be seated away from young children...

I have been to Al's Steakhouse a few times and everytime I go I normally get steak but this time i decided to switch it up, I ended up getting the Jumbo Shrimp and was that an great choice! The jumbo shirm was amazing, it was very satisfied with Al's Steakhouse, they never disappoint there!
Really good steak but the best service. Truly Ottawa's best spot for a good surf and turf
The restaurant does look very nice but was truly was high end was the food. I do not think I have ever had a better steak and lobster. The price was fair.
As a previous reviewer wrote, we approx 30) went to Al's for an important anniversary. The reservation was made well in advance so they cannot say they were slammed. There was not enough staff so service was slow and confused. Food was average for the price. When we asked for the bills total confusion erupted. We had to wait for... more
HUGE steak - cooked to perfection. Of course a steakhouse should know how to cook a steak properly and they sure do. The whole meal was enormous and great value. Al was even their to scold my 8 year old for taking off his shoes under the table (he's a Kiwi - it's in our blood). He was polite about... more
I can't say that I am much of a steak eater, but after the meal I had at Al's I am seriously considering changing my diet. Everything cooked to perfection. I couldn't have expected any more from a steakhouse.
Will definitely go again.
We went to Al's Steakhouse for my husband's birthday because he got a gift card from a friend. We are new to Ottawa but we're told that Al's is an Ottawa institution. The decor is very nice and our server was very pleasant and competent. We started with the stuffed mushrooms which were the best I've had and the hummus... more
We went to celebrate a milestone anniversary with our entire family. The service was extremely slow, and the servers were inexperienced. They had a number of large parties going on the same night, and the management should have booked more staff, but did not. The result: an hour wait for our bills, and the meal taking twice as long to... more
We met at Al's with friends to celebrate our 25th anniversary.
We ordered Caesar salad for an appetizer. The was drowning in dressing.
The wine was warm. Not kept in a wine cellar but is on a rack as you come into the restaurant. Not climate controlled. Kept well above normal room temperature.
3 of us ordered the filets. They...

Not the same ambience as the original Al's, downtown on Egin Street. The food is almost, but not quite, as good. Portions tend to be a bit smaller but the prices are identical.
I avoid this restaurant and drive to the one downtown where I don't have to contend with the rude manager, who verbally abuses unhappy patrons who send...

This steak house is an institution in Bell's Corners. It has ample parking, pleasant decor and a predictable menu of steak and chicken. There is nothing inspired about the food. It is a good solid meat and potatoes kind of place. The waitresses are pleasant and there is nothing at all to complain about. Or frankly, to recommend the place.... more
Great steak with all the atmosphere you'd expect in a traditional steakhouse. The thing that makes them unique is the house creamy garlic dressing...before you get your bill ask them for a jar to take home!
The steak which is what it is famous for was average for the price we paid, the staff was rather pretentiouss with average service. Mushrooms were served cold. Not worth the money.
Tried their Filet mignon; it's to die for! We had Chief Salad as an "entrée"; the vinaigrette is very good.
If you are looking for a steak dinner in West Ottawa, this is probably your best bet, after all it is called a SteakHouse, the only other west end SteakHouse in the Keg and that is more for a younger crowd.
This Al's is probably not as good as the one downtown, but I think that is more to do...
