Once again, the fare at Taste of Saigon was excellent. Vietnamese vermicelli or rice bowls, served quickly and with style. Arrive before noon or after 12:30 to avoid the rush. (Yellowknife is a government town with lots of downtown workers who take lunch at noon!)
I like this place order by number and there's no mistakes even when it's packed your food comes hot and fast. They are always back to fill your water or get you more beverages. Prices are reasonable I don't think you can go wrong here unless u don't like Asian food.
There's nothing like lunch at TOS. The place is usually packed but the service incredibly quick. I get the same thing every time (because I'm boring) but it's always perfect. I don't think I've ever had anyone complain to me about the quality of a meal there - it's always good.
I remember when this restaurant opened and it was one of my top go-to places. I ordered a take-out meal and found it cool in temperature and lacking flavor. It may be they keep the flavors mild to appeal to North American tastes. I'm not giving up yet! Next meal will be dine-in and I'll ask for a meal with... more
This is a great place to come for lunch. The food is very good and is prepared very quickly. I would recommend it to anyone who likes this style of food.
We went there for dinner. The service was good. One of the staff (a young girl) was really nice and helpful. We ordered chicken, fish sets ... and were all very tasty. The portion was big!
The pho soup dishes (any) are fabulous ahainst the chill of -40degC temps, but their shrimp satay rice dish and spring rolls and mystery dumplings are awesome too! These people know what they're doing.
Taste of Saigon is clean and the food is O.K. Nothing remarkable, but not bad considering the latitude. I had #42; a vermicelli bowl with spring rolls (cha gio) and grilled pork for $13.95 and hot tea $2.95. I found most of the food in the bowl freshly prepared, but the pork was a bit dry and neither hot nor... more
A couple of colleagues and I (from out of town) were told that this was a good spot for Asian food...and they were right! We ordered a few dishes - chicken, beef and shrimp-based - and they were all very tasty. The service was excellent and we managed to finish everything (and that's always a good sign!)
To those that think the food is expensive in Yellowknife compared to their home town, please consider where Yellowknife is located. Most food items have to be flown in or brought in from far distances.... more
Not sure if food in general is more expensive in Yellowknife. Most of the entree dishes were about $10-$15. Probably the most expensive pho I've ever eaten but low quality (compared to other major cities). Should have stuck to sushi.
While spending a week in Yellowknife my family and I had lots of meals out. This was a favourite! The pho is as good as my regular pho restaurant in Toronto. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this to anyone!
The service was very fast and the food was amazing - very fresh. Get there before noon if you want a seat or make a reservation.
Don't eat out often, but when I do...................
This is a favourite of mine because I can actually get find light, tasty and vegetarian dishes on the menu - as opposed to the heavy, greasy fare of the Standard North American Diet - presented everywhere in most restaurants. Decor is simple and serving staff are invariably pleasant and courteous. Recommended,
I'm a fan of Japanese and Italian cuisine but when my friend brought me in this restaurant, and I was able to taste a Vietnamese food, I am now a fan of it. I can't remember the name of the food I ordered but it's very delicious. it's a bowl of noodles topped with chicken and some veggies and herbs... more
Hair in my food, owner's wife took it away without any apologies. Way to much MSG in the soup, need to drink a lot water after. Waitress there are very rude same as the owner's wife.
I usually try to make it at least once to this place when visiting Yellowknife. It's one of the better Asian restaurants in town. They don't deliver but they do have takeaway. I'm not sure if it's worth doing as Vietnamese food tends to have lots of dipping sauces. Dinner can usually be finished within an hour if you're in... more
As usual reading the reviews I have to say yes, we live in YK and so we lower standards. I often wonder what would happen if we expected better. I find Taste of Saigon to be pretty bland. I think the sauces are not home made by any sense of the word. I find the spring rolls to be quite... more
Great food, awesome staff, fast food. One of the only places you can go for lunch and be in and out in 30 minutes or less.
A local recommended the spring rolls. They were too crispy, and not very flavorful. The sauce was bland. I added 3 sauces--hoisin, chili, and hot--to no avail.
The beef satay came with chopped peanuts, but no peanut sauce like I'm used to.
The place was clean, waitresses were pleasant. After sitting and not getting my check, I asked if I...

The mixture of dishes are exquisitly put together and overall the Vietnamese dishes are done well to perfection with as much to fill you in one dish that there will be almost a bit too much but really just enough and the service is by far some of the best you will find in Yellowknife. The cost is pretty good... more
I love this place, good portions. Service is great and food orders are usually pretty quick. A little pricey but that is YK.
Over priced (around $15 for a bowl of noodle soup) and over-rated (chicken with no taste). Maybe it's because I am coming from San Francisco with tons of competitive vietnamese restaurants.
A Taste of Saigon is another of my 'go to' restaurants when I visit Yellowknife. I've been there mostly on my own, but a couple times with a friend who lives in the area, and she's said it's one of her favourite restaurants as well.
Service is generally good, but sometimes lacks a bit of enthusiasm. I'm usually seated quickly,...

Great place to eat lunch or supper but if you go for lunch go about 15 mins before noon or you will not get a seat. Recommend chicken satay stir fry!
I visit A Taste of Saigon on most trips to Yellowknife and it is consistently good. The food is served frighteningly fast. I literally had spring rolls at my table within two minutes of ordering them. They were cooked and hot so it wasn't like they had been sitting in the kitchen, but obviously somehow prepared in advance. I found... more
We went to A Taste of Saigon and the Vietnamese Noodle House three to four times each during our stay in Yellowknife. The setting at A Taste of Saigon is newer, more upscale, and seems to have more business patrons. We tried their chicken wings stuffed with shrimp - the taste of the shrimp was masked by the chicken; shrimp... more
When you work and travel in northern Canada, you learn to adjust your expectations. I have been to Taste of Saigon twice in the past year. On both visits, the staff have been friendly, the menu has vegetarian items, and the food has come quickly. The food was good and came at a great price. When you consider the location... more
I came early, maybe 430 pm. They were open and glad to serve me. Food taste, temperature, spiciness and presentation were fine and the price was reasonable, even not considering The North is expensive. Not that many places to choose here so I was glad to find it.
Vietnamese is my favourite and this place does not disappoint. Reasonable prices, quick and friendly service at lunch.
In fairness there were only two of us dining and there was lots we didn't try. The dumplings looked very good. Woukd love to return with larger party to sample more things.
While not a fantastic place to eat, the staff are very professional, but not overly personable. The food is good, and if you like spicy, they have some great choices. Two downfalls of this place:
1) The staff believe they are right in all matters - my dumplings were still doughy, but they refused to agree and would not discount...

Love the food, service is good. Only catch is that the cashier is slow at the end of the lunch hour - put on another person just before 1:00. I have been late for work twice waiting in line to pay so I don't go for my lunch there any more.
Food is good service, very quick and price reasonable! Staying in Yellowknife for a few days found it hard to find decent places to eat. This one is worth it!
You can't go too terribly wrong here. The food is good, the place is clean and service is speedy.
Very nice people, and the food is DELICIOUS! Can't say much more than that, just great great food!
No trip to Yellowknife is complete until you go to A Taste of Siagon. Food is great, and cheep . Everyone had a great meal, recommend the #25 an #6.
Fresh tasting fare, well made. Friendly staff
Would be great if they had a few more vegetarian options. The vegetarian vermicelli bowl was exceptional
If this is the only place you can get to - go here. Food is excellent, service is excellent, prices are inexpensive, the atmosphere is warm and it is always well-patronized.
Great food, great service, the best place in Yellowknife for lunch?
If you want to taste some real culture in Yellowknife this is the place to go!!! Everytime I go I am happy with the food I get!
I love Vietnamese food and love to try new restaurants. This place is just scrapping the bar at "average." A few of the dishes were okay -- I liked the cold shrimp rolls -- but the rather unappealing pictures in the menu translate too accurately into the food on the plate. I am not one to leave food behind, especially... more
The spicy Vietnamese soup (multiple types) is wonderful, especially in the middle of winter. The front of the menu asks patrons to advise of food allergies, so they can be accomodated, but when I have raised allergy issues, they have not been helpful (for example, one of the Pho soups has crushed peanuts in the bottom of the bowl. You'd... more
Judging by how full the dining room was on a December Tuesday evening, the excellent food and service at this restaurant is no secret.
Food was excellent, service prompt and friendly. In the tradition of vietnamese restaurants the decor of the dining room is simple, but very pleasant.
This restaurant is about a 3 minute walk from the Explorer Hotel...

With limited options in yk, this was one of the best.
Taste of Saigon is a Vietnamese restaurant in Yellowknife. They have your standard Vietnamese rice dishes, vermicelli noodle dishes, but my favorite is the Pho.
We haven't got much choice in Yellowknife, but this is what i compare other Pho to in other southern Vietnamese places. Worth the visit, food is consistent and good value
Yum! I had lunch at Saigon last week and it was great. The place does fill up, so arrive early or make reservations. Food was fresh and FAST! Lots of selection on the menu and sure to please most. There are many kinds of Pho as well as Vermicelli bowls, rice plates, and larger "sharing" entree orders. Prices are quite... more
Ordered a satay chicken, beef, shrimp, squid, noodle combo. Supposed to be spicy. Wife had chicken satay with veggies. Meat was obviously prepared well before-hand as it was served within two to three mintes after being ordered. Chicken and beef was very dry and chewy. Noodles were dry, chewy, half cooked and cold. Shrimp tasted boiled. Veggies consisted of lots... more
I first started going to Taste of Saigon as a visitor to Yellowknife, and I continue to go now that I'm a resident. By Yellowknife standards, the food is tasty and affordable. However, it's more expensive than a similar restaurant in a big city, and you don't get the same fresh ingredients (e.g. herbs for pho noodle soup or bun... more
Probably the cleanest most consistent restaurant in Yellowknife.
Quick, friendly service, fresh food, and good prices.
If you plan to go for lunch, get there before 12, or make a reservation.
Who would have thought that you could find some of the best Vietnamese food in Yellowknife, NWT. But that is the fact if go to A Taste of Saigon. The food was fresh and tasty and the pho soups are a real treat especially on those cold days!
The service was fast and courteous and the quality of the food and the value for money is noteworthy.
I’m going back.
