It's cheap. It's ugly. It's great! Juicy smoked meat, dill pickles, and a lot of sadsack saps looking to fill the gap after a night of boozing. The Main has been around since the 60s and it shows. You can even kinda taste it in the meat. It's a tried and true recipe that could give Schwartz's a run for its money in an arm wrestling contest -and speaking of manhandling meat, there's a certain... more

FINALLY, got to eat smoked meat in Montreal.
Some back story: We moved to Montreal last summer, and were told about the city staples, like Schwartz. But every time I walked past those places (like Banquise, too), there was always DOZENS of ppl queueing in the street, even in the snow! Anyway, I kept getting told about The Main, that it was better/Leonard Cohen used to go there etc, but kind of... more
Aussi bon que Swchatz mais en plus propre er plus confortable. Bref, c'est mon avis et je le partage !

Usually overshadowed by the legendary Schwartz's just across the street, this late night standby nonetheless boasts excellent smoked meat, sandwiches and platters and passable sandwiches, burgers and steaks (famous Rib Steak Special, with grilled liver appetizer and all the trimmings). The decor is undeniably tired, and it can get a bit lonely at 4a, but at that hour there aren't many other... more
