She is nice but...

I am a sister of the bride who found Pearl's info through searching online at The Bride's Project and later on from Gail at large. I also can't find a lot of actual reviews (good and bad) from other brides about her work so I thought we should give her a try since not much reviews could be a good thing..

I called Pearl on my sister's behalf to book an appointment and she seems to be pleasant on the phone so that's a good. When we went for our 1st appointment, tried on dress and tell her our concerns (we need to take in the whether the back/sides/zipper because its a bit loose, and we need to soften the breast part because it was a bit pointy for my sister's liking). My sister's dress upper part consists of lace and sequins so Pearl started to pin here and there eye balling it and thinking something but somehow gave me a strange thought and feelings that she might not know what she is doing (aren't the seamstress suppose to measure with measuring tape too?) . Although I know that she have been working in the industry for more than 25 years but isn't she seen a lot of these problem in bridal gown? Me and my sister looked at each other and she asked if I done my research and I told her to give her a chance and see, then we left the dress there and was told by her that she gonna call in 2 weeks. When we got home and thinking are we suppose to get a receipt or something, what if the dress get mix up or something else who knows (we ordered our BM's dress in a specific colour and received a different order so we are really scare if something else does goes wrong by this point). I called her and she said don't worry but she is not going to write up anything like receipt. We are kinda nervous and tried to think everything positive.

By the 3rd week haven't heard from her and I have to call and check. First off, she seems like she don't remember us and mixed up us for someone else then she said she have to do extra work at Alfred Sung last week so it took her longer to finish our dress. She asked me again when our wedding date and I told her Sept 8/13, she laugh said that it 2nd week of Aug and it's still long time. She said that other brides don't even want to come when she called to pick their dress up. I'm shocked and told her other brides might but we are not and expect the day she promised. She asked for another week and I go along with it but called and booked with the bridal store we bought the dress from for back up (which we should use instead of looking around).

On her 2nd fitting my sister's dress was really tight in the back when I zipped up for her and her sweetheart neckline, one of the breast side fitted more while the other side still need to take in a bit more. She told us to go for coffee and come back 30mins so we left. We waited almost an hour but no call so we end up called her and she told she was done..geez..This time the back is a bit better but then I noticed when zipped up, the lace from both sides did not match up and it look so bad. I showed her and she insisted that we bought it like that and she didn't do any alteration in the zipper just the sides. We had a bit of a loud talk but things already done and lessons learn.
1.no review could be good or could be bad
2.if having receipt is important, it gives you a written info of what is done and price in case you remember something and she said something else
3.if you have doubt, book other appointments else where for back up
4.the most important things is that we should take lots of picture in every angle to compare before and after in case there is a fault

Pearl is worth very penny!!!!

Pearl Seto is a gem, love her to pieces, she was able to fix my ruined wedding gown professionally and quickly. My mistake was that I took it to get alterations by someone who did not know anything about wedding gowns. My dress didn't fit right and the hem was wonky after their alterations but they insisted that it was suppose to look like that. Pearl had one look and knew exactly what need to be done to re-fix the other alterations. LOVE HER!
