A company who inderstands the essentials of business needs in recycling and consolidation of electronic

PC RECYCLE - in Québec since 1994 - is one of the pioneers in environmental recuperation and recycling of

electronic material and of physical data destruction.

Education and development : PC Recycle mission

Seeing the great need over concrete solutions required by the Federal government over waste management, and the scarce resources for the private sector over what alternative we have to cleanly dispose of our obsolete equipment made Robert Gagne to start PC Recycle, with the mission of giving a second life to computers and technology.

In 2004, over the facts that technology prices are always going down, Mr. Gagne reviewed his marketing strategy, always with the feeling that technology should help people achieve better results and not become and obstacle over communities trying to evolve economically and socially. The mission of the business became to :

Create jobs in unfavoured countries and communities, repairing used computer equipment where lower salary then those earned in Canada don´t mean lower power of consumption.

Permit people with lower revenues to learn and use computers through a lower cost to acquire it and learn how to use it.

Initially conceived as a re-use project .PC Recycle has evolved to become these days a key resource in transferring information and technology towards underdeveloped countries; providing technology, computer equipment for communities that are not able to afford such expenses.

The mission of PC Recycle 2004: Give a second life to your PC via education.

“When people hear about the Internet, they first think about computer chats and web browsing. You have to realize how much more the internet is for these communities. The internet permit people to be voiced out, fight poverty, corruption and access a goldmine of information to establish new processes to make higher achievements possibles.

We see the current event with China´s events and their respects of human life in Tibet. The very same day the events took place, they where movies all over websites like Youtube, thousands if not millions of bloggers giving their ideas and bits of informations over the events and people concerns being voiced out all over the globe. To the point that China had no other choice then permit some pictures and movies to float freely abroad. There is no government in the world that can restrict the freedom of press with such a powerful tool as the Internet is today. The same happen to lower down corruption, people are able to voice out their opinions without much fear of any political consequences, and government that where hiding behind corruption before are the ones pushing laws to make every actions more transparent today.

The internet is also a great resource over educating people, not only academically, but also in fields like health, education and agriculture, and mostly all fields you can imagine. It is a source of social-economic development. ”

The process of recuperating

PC Recycle´s staff recuperate computers, monitors, keyboard and other electronic equipment with the objective of seeing its reuse in less advantaged parts of the world.

At the present time, we partnered with the team of Decizzion One, located in San Salvador, El Salvador. A trained staff at Decizzion One receive the equipment, review it and restore it to its optimal condition.

The computers are then distributed to schools, primarly public, and community centers, to help people do a good use of it. Decizzion One teach the kids to the grand parents in the schools and community centers to use the computer, to look out for information on the internet and various other necesities of the community.

“We are actually developping a program to become the motor of a synergy of current and future ways of teaching inside the schools. We try not to limit our perspective to computer teaching, but we want to be part of all aspect of education, such as teaching people from all ages and revenues to read, showing the current staff inside public schools how to interact with other teachers worldwide to better teach their classes, and using the multimedia capacities of computer to teach new languages.” Say Jason Keith Mailley, in charge of the Salvadorean project.

Currently, Decizzion One install its center within schools, inform the parents about how important it is for their kids today to learn how to use a computers. The program is voluntary, and require a small contribution of less then $3,00 a month to receive 8 hours of tuition. That contribution help pay for electricity, the teacher and the maintenance of installed equipment, and the administration of the project. The project is self

Each school has a full installation of computer equipment and electric equipment, with a multi levelled formation followed up by a dedicated teacher formed by Decizzion One.

Access to the community and on-going development

After the lessons, the computer centre opens its doors to students, parents, and the rest of the community, for the utilisation of computers.

Such a structure writes it self in an on-going development of the country. In fact the school doesn’t have to pay the computers, that would bring up the deficit of the school.

The project self sustain its infrastructure, laboratories, computer equipment, cost of maintenance, management, formation of the teachers, and the on-going multi-leved formation for students. The project is managed in a way that does not require any funds, financing or expenses from the school.

Objectives achieved in 2005

Main structures are made, we started training locals the computing and made sure to be able to have good teachers in our schools.

Objectives achieved in 2006

In 2006, to help the local company Decizzion One, PC Recycle gaves it a store. Through the sales made at the store, Decizzion One became self sufficient to build its academic material and go ahead on the project.

Objectives achieved in 2007

In 2007, 7 schools where installed and are now in complete operation. The kids, and even some parents are getting to know the wonderful world of computers. All that while respecting the environment.

2000 PC shipped to central America.

7 schools in operation in 2007, 4 in installation (april 2008)

6 containers per year leave for central America.

How to help and finance this project

Each container cost a lot of money for its cost of shipping. Any help in that matter is greatly appreciated. You can enquire over our staff to see what advantages you can get through your help. The main help is done through computer donations, these ones that you don´t use anymore or the ones you want to replace or simply donate. We make sure your datas are well erased in a way that is imposible to recover, before shipping it. Yes you can help!

Already some efficient partners

PC Recycle wouldn’t be able to stay on its mission without the help of its partners. If you want to participate in the projects in any way, get in contact with us as soon as you can !
