Is O'Carroll's the city's "Most Improved" in the past 5 years? Maybe. A dusky, Gaelic-influenced sort of spot laid out in white tablecloths, potted plants, and stained-glass lamps, it's still a good place for a filling seafood meal. We had steak and lobster for supper, both of which were superb, and the atmosphere and service were really wonderful. The irish breakfest here is unbelievble (at least compared to other restaurants in Halifax). Everything tasted like it was infused with flavour!
More than once I've seen the waiting staff just casually chat with the patrons while working, but they've never been slow. I think this is great and I always feel welcomed here. And if your picky about how your Guinness is poured, you won't be...

We chose O’Carroll’s, an Irish-style pub, for lunch – it was about a block away from the hotel (Marriott Harbourside). It was a charming place with nice old ironwork on the radiators and tables. Jason and I had a wonderful steak-and-kidney pie, not so great calamari, and the in-laws both had salmon.
I finally got my long-awaited pint of cider, and loved it. We had dessert (divine!) and chatted...
