I have been there maybe 4 times over the past 10 years or so and each experience has been disappointing. I expect better based on the prices and the reputation. The food is nice (it's no Kellsey's) and well presented but it falls short.
My latest trip was in October of '09. I made reservations there for my boyfriend's birthday as he has wanted to try this restaurant out based on what he's heard of it. Our reservation was for 7:30, we didn't leave till close to midnight. Not because we were having a splendid time but because that's how incredibly late all of our food was. We got the apologies and a couple complementary tid-bits, but it's a good thing we didn't make any other plans after dinner! We had a tar tart and a beat salad to start off with, and while they were both good, they weren't amazing. I ordered a duck 3 ways for dinner, the duck confit was dry and not tasty at all. My bf ordered a steak done rare, but it arrived medium. The replacement steak that arrived was done to a medium but it wasn't a well cut steak and it was tough. Otherwise, the atmosphere and the front of the house staff have always been very nice.

Lovely decor. Busy, but not loud. Food and service was excellent.
When I walked in to North 44, I couldn't help but notice that the ceiling is fifteen feet up. This is a tall, gaunt restaurant, deliciously noir, and muted in color except for the flowers at your table... compliments of McEwan flowers. Excellent Food and Excellent Service. Our server was very knowledgeable and we were delighted by the total experience. The Miso Cod is not to be missed. I would come back in a heartbeat!
Excellent Resto, tres bon service. Si vous etes pret a depenser $100 pp, vous allez pas etre decu. Un des meuilleur resto que je connais.
One of the most notable restaurants, North 44 put Toronto on the dining radar, garnishing praise from a number of international food critics. The décor is understated with soft lighting and mirrors. The service is sublime. Start off with a signature martini such as the Evening Star, a blend of rum, cointreau, lime and pineapple. The menu changes according to the season but is always inspired,... more
North 44 is fine dining at its absolute finest. The menu changes frequently, of course, but starters might be oxtail ravioli with scallops and pancetta, or seared foie gras with Riesling braised apples, toasted brioche, chocolate veal reduction, sage fritters and praline. Mains show an international influence: roasted bison tenderloin with truffle risotto and roasted beets, or grilled yellowfin... more
