After a visitor to Monaliza's Lingerie posted a negative review of the store online at a bra-fitting forum, either the owner or an employee of the store created two accounts on the website to call the reviewer a liar and to prop the store up. Here is what the employee said:
"Firstly, I would think that a forum that offers reviews on stores would do HALF the investigating that I did. I LOVE Monaliza's it's a gem of a boutique and I won't let a post that is FULL OF LIES tarnish it's reputation.
LIE #1: That you bought a Panache up the street. IMPOSSIBLE. Monaliza's is the only store within a ten block radius to carry any Panache brand. I checked. Here's a lists of their stockists
www.panache-lingerie.com/en/stockists...
for anyone who cares, you know, about the truth. So either you're blatantly LYING or the other store sold you a fake....
LIE #2. They have a no return no exchange policy. WRONG AGAIN. I know b.c. I have exchanged pyjamas there and it's also written on the bottom of their receipt...
I don't know if this is going to count as a 'criticism' and will be deleted but we women need to know!"
The reviewer replied with:
"I definitely might be mis-remebering on the panache. I tried on so many bras that day, and have only been wearing one of them. The other two are at my partners place, and I can update you on the brand when I go pick them up.
Monaliza, however, does NOT offer returns on lingerie. They only offer it on pjs, robes, etc."
And the employee responds:
"....im just saying she could be unsure about everything else too..."
After being called out as the owner or someone affiliated with Monaliza's Lingerie, the employee replied with:
"LOLOLOL. touched some nerves i see....sorry if the truth hurts...!!!
...seems like this forum is for haters who don't care about what is true or false and just want to tear 'a@!%!**s' into people. classy. later."
With another account, the employee responds to the part in the review where the reviewer was pushed into purchasing a bra from Monaliza's Lingerie that was too big in the band but the cups were otherwise the correct volume. The employee posts:
"ok so like i agree with "[username]"...like why would you buy stuff if you didnt like it! unless youre super rich...but then like why would you comment here. like i dont know but kerrisdale is one of the last places in van where you kind find little euro boutiques that have been around for like years n years instead of all the giant corporations that are covering vancouvers retail market. so in a way i agree with you like dont buy stuff from where you dont like. but then also dont put their stuff on hold if youre not actually going to buy it...thats probably why she called. cuz you bought one thing and put another on hold! which could be also why youre so mad. like maybe all of us should look at our actions as consumers and make sure that they align with our intentions as consumers ...so that we can attract the experience we are looking for. iuno just saying...but good luck girl ;)"
And the reviewer responds with:
"I keep saying this but no one seems to hear it: the 34D I bought DID fit, just the band was too big. I was actually happy when I put it on because I thought phew, finally there is one that fits. Guess I'll just have to suck up the large band.
As for other euro boutiques in Vancouver, not sure if you're a Vancouverite, but the other ones carry a price tag of $200+/bra.
And putting the bras on hold: they actually took 4 bras that they deemed to fit and put it on the cash desk as I got there, as if they decided for me what I should buy. Putting it on hold was an easy out of the situation (and I agree, a little cowardly on my part). I also did say to them: I'm gonna look around, and I'll come back for those tomorrow if I want them. Not sure if you've worked retail though, because people do that all the time."
This behavior is unacceptable from a retailer. If it is the owner, shame on them for acting like a teenager in response to a negative review. If it is another employee of Monaliza's Lingerie, the owner should reconsider their employment status for shining a bad light onto the store.
Retail outlets like Monaliza's that tell you to take defective product back to the manufacturer because "we don't make the stuff" are useless -- might as well just order on line. I expect a boutique like this to actually handle my issues with good service.
The time I spent in Monaliza's Lingerie was the best experience I've ever had in a lingerie boutique! They have such a variety of European lines in bras and sleepwear and they really know their stuff! They taught us all kinds of tricks that my daughter and I found really helpful. The owner was so courteous and kind we didn't want to leave! Definitely recommended!!!
Excellent boutique! Carry such a variety of european labels and great expert fitters...I have been to my share of boutiques to try and get into something comfortable. Definitely recommended.
