My vehicle is a 1991 Buick Regal GS with 233,000km. My vehicle was to have front struts and strut bearings replaced, rear shocks replaced and an alignment at a total cost of $980 including a lifetime warranty on parts. This was my first visit to Midas as I recently moved to Port Coquitlam from Winnipeg. I chose Midas since it had a convenient location and seemed to be competitive in their pricing. I dropped my vehicle off at Midas and was told it would be completed in about four hours. I went shopping to kill some time, and about an hour later I received a phone call from their service advisor stating that my front ball joints had to be replaced. The cost of replacement would add an extra $290 to the bill, and to leave the balljoints in there would throw the vehicle out of alignment. I told the service advisor specifically not to go ahead with the replacement as my balljoints were still under warranty from Canadian Tire. The service advisor argued with me on the phone and even accused me of "playing games" with him. This accusation I did not take lightly and notified him I will be contacting Midas Canada for that remark. He called me later and told me that they would go ahead and replace the balljoints and give me a 15% discount. I told him again not to do so, and another argument ensued. Finally they called me one last time to tell me the vehicle is done and that they will not warranty the parts under their lifetime guarantee since I did not choose to have them replace the balljoints. I picked up the vehicle, paid my bill and left. I called Midas of Canada and told them the entire situation and that I would never go back to that service garage or recommend it to anyone. Midas of Canada mailed a letter to me guaranteeing that all parts that were replaced will be guaranteed for life at any Midas service garage anywhere in Canada as well as an apology for the poor service I received. If you check up on the Midas website or even visit their garage it states one of their duties is never to do any type of repair work unless the customer authorizies it, regardless of how badly a vehicle needs it. I would never recommend visiting this service garage ever.
