After starting life as a skating rink in 1884, the Métropolis is now a prime showplace for traveling rock groups, especially for bands on the way up or retracing their steps down. It has recently hosted the Black Crowes, Ladytron, and the "Ethnic Heroes of Comedy" comedy tour. There's also a small attached lounge, Le Savoy.
This is a great venue. Not in the classiest of neighborhoods, but safe and charming, within walking distance of Vieux Montreal. As a New Yorker, I was shocked to find that the bars (all four of them) accepted cards for charges as little as $5.75 (the price of a beer). Great venue, could space out the seating a little more, would be alot more comfortable. The only thing missing is the ability to order food!
A classic venue where the famous and the notorious perform in a small theatre. I'll never forget the Buddy guy show I saw many years ago, right before the jazz festival opened.
