Incompetent and Uncaring

This company installed a Keepright 5-ton in my new house. Less than 5 years later the fan blew - probably my fault being lazy on changing the air filter - which I now do every month. The Mancini technician replaced the fan for $621 without telling me it was covered by warranty. Worse, he changed the fan from a DC to an AC motor, which I subsequently learned is a huge no-no from the manufacturer. As a result, the main circuit board on the unit fried due to the motor over-amping. The technician replaced the board three times over a two year period. I kept asking him why the board fries and he told me "no way to tell unless you maybe put a meter on the unit. "probably" he says, "it's power surges." These stories turn out to be totally made up and wrong. The boards cost $250 plus service each time. On the last time, he said he can't replace the board due to it being a fire hazard and he tells me I need to replace the entire furnace and air conditioner! I called Joe Mancini for a 2nd opinion who sent in another technician who apparently knows Keepright better. Joe then tells be he'll just replace the board again (which will be board #4.) I asked about the fire hazard of the board burning up and melting and he sticks to his idea to replace the board. He has no clue why the board fries but he does criticize the original builder who he calls "cheap." I ask him what kind of motor the Keepright is supposed to have and I point out to him that the unit and the large house require a variable speed fan correctly programmed from the dip-switch settings on the circuit board, all of which his technician has no clue about. And I ask him why he replaced the motor with the wrong one. Joe says it was to "save me money" since the variable speed DC motor is more expensive. So these so-called Keepright experts are out there installing and servicing a top of the line unit in high-end houses and basically de-configuring them off of manufacturer's specs, ruining them in the process and charging the hapless homeowner all along the way. And no clue how the correct programming is supposed to be done. I hired Pat Noah of Green Comfort - who by the way is listed on Keepright's main site as an approved service firm for their units (which Mancini isn't). He (Noah) has ordered the correct motor to re-install and he's following the manufacturer's set-up instructions because he knows the unit. And he confirmed that the wrong motor will definitely fry the board according to the Keepright factory technician. My conclusion: big houses are very complex buildings to heat and cool right and the new high efficiency furnaces are extremely sophisticated appliances. Homeowners should research their unit online and get a local factory-trained specialist on that unit. You wouldn't take your Porsche to "Al's Garage and Tires" for repairs would you? I learned a huge and expensive lesson on this. As for Mancini and his unbelievably inept technicians - STAY AWAY!
