kinda poor
I have very good input on a LOT of the Vietnamese restaurants in town. Me and my friend went through a period where we toured the city's vietnamese restaurants, critiquing each. Every Saturday and Sunday, and whatever we could manage on the odd week day lunch hour. Really it was pass / fail for each restaurant, though failing doesn't mean it's terrible just that I wouldn't go back, compared to the other restaurants in town. I always order one of 5 dishes to compare each restaurant and here I've had the beef and shrimp vermacelli, I guess you would call it. The food was mediocre, lacked flavour, and the atmosphere and staff were "meh". It didn't seem like a restaurant, but more like a shady night club with tables. They must have been setting up for something that night.

Best pho soup in Calgary
July 07, 2011I have been to Lotus many times as i have worked very close to it over the past two years. I have never had a bad experience here although i admit i stick to a short list of known menu options.The staff are friendly and accomodating although the music is usually not very good. Who wants to hear Britney in an authentic Vietnamese restaurant? Maybe you do. I do, and will continue to suggest Lotus... more

April 27, 2011Definitely one of the best in Calgary, as for the review above saying that this restaurant uses ox cubes, I wouldn't believe that one bit, because Pho soup is suppose to be yellowish in color. If its clear, its made from chicken, beef soup should be yellowish brown color. Definitely real bone soup, not much MSG taste to the soup as well. Definitely delicious!!!

March 25, 2011Definitely the worst Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. Sadly, I didn't learn my lesson the first time. I ordered wor won ton soup and requested to add egg noodles. The broth was not made from bones, it had such a strong oxo cube taste and it wasn't clear like a regular, homemade broth would be. It was very yellow which is another indicator of oxo cubes.
