Was there with my husband to celebrate my birthday. Drove 1 hour for this to be very disappointed and leaving p@!%!d. We ordered roti chanai, sayor lodeh, laksa, carrot cake, chilli crab and coconut juice. We asked if it was fresh coconut juice or can, they said it was fresh so we ordered. It didn't come at all till mid meal when I went to ask for them since the food was spicy and when it came it was very canned and fake tasting juice. The sayor lodeh's long beans were too hard (uncooked) to eat. The laksa was okay but not salty enough (which was fixed with some soy sauce) it had alot of noodles, two shrimps and a few shreds of chicken. Carrot cake was very good though. But when the chilli crab came it was terrible and everything fell apart. The crab had moldy grey looking dry (and I mean desert dry) flesh that was stuck on the shell it was inedible and very fishy smelling. We asked the lady why it's like so she sent the man boss who took our entire dish full of crabs not eaten and said it's like that. Then another lady came out and said that's how it is. It's just not very cooked. I said how more cooked could it be! Showed her the dry moldy meat and she said that's how it is vancouver crab! We've sold it many years! At the same time yelling "I still have to charge you!!!" "I still have to charge you!!" And we never got the dish back. They took it away so fast we couldn't take pictures. The worst experience ever. Not worth the trip and certainly spoilt my birthday getting told off by so many people from one lousy restaurant. P.S we had a low and kind tone. We were just inquisitive and not complaining. We even paid the full bill.
With all these Yelp reviews of Lion City Restaurant, we decided to give it a try as one of lunch experience for my "A Day in Mississauga". Disclaimer: I been to Malaysia/Singapore/Thailand and I am a regular at Gourmet Garden...I am writing this review based on my experience... so it might be bias... but is my own review! The colourful interior does remind me of South East Asia. Wat Tan Hor Fun - This is a very popular dish back home in Singapore.Rice noodles with a special sauce with some shrimp, squid and pork. The secret to the tastiness of this dish is the way it is cooked and of course the sauce,You must ask for the pickled chilli to go with this dish to complete the flavor.
I just love this place when I have the craving for Singapore / Malaysian food.Being an ex-Singaporean who travels back and forth to my former hometown every year, I have an acute taste for what is authentic and what is not.Lion City restaurant easily passes my food cravings for Singaporean food. The star dishes are the Chicken Rice which IMHO the best in the GTA.(Sorry to the Gourmet Garden fans... more
