We went to Leaside Animal Clinic to get some Toe Grips for our senior dog as our local vet didn't have any. When I called to ask if they had the product in stock, they asked if I needed to make an appointment to fit them, and I said no, as I followed the instructions carefully for measurement on the product's website, and had done quite a bit of research about the product. They said no problem, I could just buy them at the front.
When my husband brought our dog in with him and asked to purchase Toe Grips in the size we had determined, they said that we HAD to make an appointment to fit them, we could not purchase 'off the rack'. My husband didn't know that I had previously called and been told we could, so he obligingly booked an appointment, came back later to drop off our dog at that time, but wasn't seen in the waiting room for half an hour, then once they took our dog back, he was told it would be a few minutes for them to "fit" the toe grips (which are just rubber beads that fit over the nail), but the vet came back and said it would be half an hour.
When we got home, we realized that the vet tech had trimmed almost all of her nails very short, to the point that they were bleeding and painful to walk on. Her nails did not require a trim, nor did we ask for them to be done. More to the point, her nails were now too short for the Tie Grips to work correctly!
When I called to express my disappointment, the vet gave me some tips on how to stop the bleeding, but said "the nails have to be cut short to fit the Toe Grips on", which is entirely incorrect, and I am quite sure no product is designed to have to make a dog's nails bleed to work.
I would agree with other comments that this clinic is looking for ways to make money, and they are not always acting in the best interests of the animals, nor providing information upfront to the owners.
We will not be going back, and hope that others will look for another clinic when trying to find a vet in the city.
I'm not sure why the latest review was so negative, I found my experience here when I brought my pup Markus to be very pleasant, the vet was kind, compassionate and helpful. The little guy got all the shots he needed and we were off on our way.
This was his first set of shots, but from what I understood from my friends the price was reasonable.
I should have gone with my first instinct and just walked out when the vet wouldn't give me eye contact whatsoever. We adopted a 9 month old lab/retriever mix 4 days before bringing him to Leside Animal clinic. He's a bit gun shy (possibly abused) and I told her this and asked her not to do anything abruptly before taking a couple of seconds to get to know him. She decided NOT to take my advice and just went right at him with her stethoscope. He growled and backed away behind me (scared) and she FLIPPED out. She told me "there are so many nice labs out there, you don't need to be stuck with this one". What?! She then proceeded to take him out of the room somewhere else to give him his shots. She came back and flat out told me I should re-home him. She said she had to use a muzzle to give him his shots. Her body language SCREAMED "i hate big dogs". I was SO disheartened that a VET would recommend re-homing a dog that was JUST adopted. His tempermant is GREAT at home and with ANYONE once they take a few seconds to let him get used to them first. My 5 year-old daughter snuggles all the time with him, my two year old had tried to ride him, and he doesn't mind AT all. My youngest hugged him when he came back in the room and she goes "OH MY THAT'S DANGEROUS!!! DON'T DO THAT!!!" proceeding to make HER cry and wonder why her dog is "dangerous". I will NOT be setting foot in that clinic again after such a traumatizing experience. Not to mention in the end, she was COMPLETELY overpriced. I can't believe a vet would just discourage someone from trying and just to give up. It's like a doctor telling you your kid has some mild behaviour issues, so it's not worth trying to help them. FOUR days, it's been FOUR days..obviously there's an adjustment period for everyone involved. She had a bad attitude and is obviously in the wrong profession. Do yourself a favor and find a vet that actually has compassion for animals and is not in it clearly just for the pay cheque.
I am very pleased with Leaside, I've been going there for about 20 years. The veterinarians and clinic staff are very caring and give their full attention to my animals. I highly recommend Leaside Animal Clinic and Drs. Weintrop and Kennedy.
Walle (the dog) gets great treatment from a very friendly and helping staff
Leaside Animal Clinic is one of the best pet stores in Leaside. I take my dog, Cinder, over there to get her nails trimmed, and they do a great job each time. The service is also very good at the Leaside Animal Clinic. The vet also gave me some arthritis medicine for Cinder's knee (she has arthritis in her knee). I would recommend the Leaside Animal Clinic to anyone who has a pet.
