Voted the most popular French Restaurant in Toronto for its eighth consecutive year by Toronto Sun readers, Le Papillon has been serving style and tradition daily since 1974. A wonderful French-Canadian restaurant, its casual Mediterranean ambience blends perfectly with the exquisite French Onion Soup, Crêpes Bretonnes and Steak au Poivres to name a ... more

The Québécois butterfly has migrated to new digs, but they're just steps away from the old location on Church Street. If you think crepes are simply for breakfast, stop by Le Papillon and think again. While you'll find many fruit-filled numbers, the best are savory crepes, which combine, for example, bacon, apples, and cheddar. Created from a mixture of white and buckwheat flour, the crepes... more

No longer the cliché of typical fromage resto complete with stuffy elegance since moving around the corner from the Esplanade. Le Papillon version 2 retains it Francaise vibe. Classic French posters are placed in uniform order on exposed brick walls. Formal dining still remains but is less intimidating, with loftier digs and darker ambience. Service and food are consistent as well as its... more

Serving French and Quebecois fare (onion soup and crepes are particularly noteworthy), Le Papillon is popular with fresh-off-the-VIA-train tourists, the business crowd, and local concert- and theatre-goers.

We had high hopes based on the simple bistro menu, the lovely ambience and the friendly service. But the food quality is mediocre and overpriced.

We ordered mussels and escargots to start and both were good, not remarkable.

The duck was ok, not very tender, flavour was a bit off. My steak frites had a charred flavour I couldn't shake, not melt in your mouth like the best examples of this... more

My first visit to this French bistro was for a weekend brunch.

Considering Le Papillon's long history in this city, and the premium it charges compared to the cheap-and-cheerful brunch places that abound downtown, we were woefully disappointed by the food.

The daily special appetizer, dough-wrapped goat cheese served with jam and mixed green salad, was excessively greasy and sloppily... more

Not realising this restaurant had moved we went to it's old location, luckily the new address was quite close by :) The service was prompt and friendly. The outside patio was a bonus; it faces Front Street so it is a tad busy but not bad by city standards. The escargots were YUM, the "De La Mer" crepe was tasty, but my crepe the "Jean-Pierre" was unremarkable; it was kinda dry and bland truth... more

When Le Papillon opened in 1974, it was Toronto’s first creperie. Now, over 30 years later, it still offers casual French dining with old favourites including French onion soup, their classic homemade desserts and of course, crepes. The Crepe Bourguignonne is filled with French beef ragout marinated in red wine while the Crepe St. Laurent Marche is stuffed with black forest ham or bacon, fresh... more
