Welcome to La Maquette, a restaurant renowned for its romantic atmosphere and sumptuous culinary delights.
the food was quite good, the pear and sweet onion tart was delicious, but the duck was over done. it is too expensive. we went in thinking we could have the christmas prix fixe which was advertised on the their website but it was not yet available. we got a horrible table downstairs, my fault for not insisting the host look for a table upstairs. the service was by far the worst service ever. i had to ask for water a number of times. the waiter who took our order and got our drinks and brought our appetizer was not the one who brought us our entrees and there was a considerable wait for the entree. when the entrees were dropped off our drinks were empty but the waiter plopped the plates down and took off. then the waiter got the bill wrong not once, not twice, but three times. it was the first time in my life I did not tip and let me tell you, I didn't feel bad about not tipping. He was handling less than 10 tables. there was no reason for inattentiveness, especially with the cost of the meal and the fact we were sitting under the stairs next to spare furniture covered in table clothes. very very disappointing.
La Maquette endures thanks to its busy summers where it seems to be always booked for a wedding. It's a big space - with seating on two floors - as well as a courtyard and the always striking Toronto Sculpture Garden.

Disheveled waiting staff in mismatching and untidy/un-ironed shirts forgot our order, brought us the wrong wine, and in general did a poor job... more
Set three course meal for 2 + wine, gratuities $140 in a wonderful setting. Food was very good, well presented and served by a most attentive waiter, Robert. The restaurant was obviously packed, but the ambiance was enjoyable, complemented by an excellent acoustic guitar player. Not sure what it would cost outside of the 'Winterlicious' winter culinary celebration, but I would highly recommend... more
but once we went inside it feels quite old-fashioned and outdated. we sat on the second floor but not near the window which i think has the nicest view. our server was pleasant-- he talks a lot with us. the complimentary bread was a disappointment-- it was not fresh and there was no thought put into it. the menu reflects a fusion of French and Italian which did not work for us. we ordered an... more
