The italian food here is excellent. Atmosphere is fun and casual. Try the pasta funghi and calabrese pizza. I'm salivating as I think about it.
"Splendid" "real" Southern Italian fare including thin-crust pizza lures eaters to this "affordable" Downtown stop; service gets good marks as do the "quirky" wine list and rustic environs; P.S. no reservations.
This was Toronto's first serious venture into true Southern Italian pizza. I've always walked past this place and wondered how the food is but I finally got to visit this past Friday. I liked that it was a very cozy but well-lit Italian restaurant. We ordered the carbonara and seafood pasta. I liked that the pasta was cooked al dente but I felt that overall, I've had better renditions of these pastas elsewhere. Great Italian food and they will do some pastas gluten free. I like that there was a separate gf menu and vegetarian menu. They would not make one of the other veg pastas gluten free for my friend as the chef felt it needed to be made with a specific type of pasta......but the food we had was great.
Came here for a company team lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed it! We split some appetizers, then each got a main (and for some like myself, a dessert as well).
Starter bread:
This basket of bread had a combination of whole grain and white slices. It came with some olive oil and spicy pepper oil on the side. The olive oil was extremely fragrant, rich, and earthy. Be careful of the chili oil...
