Located in the heart of historic Gastown, this GastroPub has garnered many accolades for its service, food, alcohol & ambiance.
In a world filled with "Plastic Paddy" establishments, the Heather stands out as a beacon of authenticity. An Irish House that is owned by Irish people who actually work there...how refreshing!!
Old Gastown brick lines one side of the elongated room, while hammered copper lines the other. Silver chairs sit on hardwood floors made from old Guinness vats, and vintage Irish posters bring splashes of colour. Chef Paul Haldane keeps the menu rooted in authentic gastropub territory, with steak and Guinness pot pies and juicy bangers. Too many beers and whiskeys to count.
"If Guinness is your passion" and you appreciate "pub fare" with "flair", surveyors swear by this "authentic" Gastown Irish for "a decent meal and drink" at "reasonable" prices; if a few "miss the old location", others counter it's "always a good time"; P.S. "go for the Long Table Series" communal dinners, and "don't forget to stop at the Shebeen in the back for a whisky."
A bright, pleasant Irish pub in the dark heart of Gastown, the Heather boasts numerous nooks and crannies, some of the best beer in town, and a menu that does a lot with the traditional Emerald Isle spud. Long-table dinners serve up meat-and-potatoes with a gastropub flair. The clientele is from all over the map, from artsy types to urban pioneers.
Irish pub food is not very easy to find at home so while we were in Vancouver I really wanted to eat at one of the numerous Irish pubs there. Guidebooks and yelp led us to the Irish Heather in Gastown.
The restaurant is located on the opposite side of Gastown from the steam clock. It is near the statute...

If you are wandering around Gastown and are looking for a great place to stop in for a cold one, this is the place to go. Lots of space to sit at the bar for the single traveler, and cozy booths in the back for groups. Lots of selection, nice staff, large clean washrooms, and reasonable prices.
Speaking as an Irish descendany, I can faithfully say that this is the closest thing Vancouver has to a proper Irish common house (pub to the rest of you). It's styled after an old Irish pub, with brick walls inside long old benches in the back, and is festooned with Irish regalia ranging from classic guinness posters to all sorts of other Irish paraphenalia. The downstairs section is where... more
This welcoming bistro is as close as you will get to Dublin in Vancouver. Specializing in whiskey and beer, the Irish Heather has been raved about since opening in 1998. Sit down to a meal of steak and Guinness pot pie, or go for the more classic bangers and mash. Even James Joyce's favorite sandwich is on the menu. Enjoy live music that will keep your eyes smiling, whether they are Irish or... more
For a touch of genuine Irish spirit, this gastropub can't be beat. Irish owners provide a note of authenticity, as do the menu and drinks. Guinness is always accessible, along with a selection of other draft and bottled beers, not to mention wines and cocktails. Plus, the Shebeen, a small venue across the courtyard, carries a great number of whiskies, scotches and ryes. Traditional Irish fare... more
