I was in Calgary with some family members who were visiting from England and we spent part of a day at the Heritage Park Historic Village. I usually don't take in "reconstructed" villages, etc but the Heritage Park was a good place for the UK visitors to get a sense of the pioneering history that formed Alberta and much of Canada. Heritage Park is the best place in town to "get away from it all". There is a real sense of going back to a quieter, slower paced time. Heritage Park is an interesting park to roam through. The old houses and buildings that make up the majority of the park are authentic to the Alberta plains and are fun to see. There are a few rides to do and the candy store is great. Mostly its an enjoyable way to spend a relaxing day.

Heritage Park Historical Village presents a unique take on Alberta history, with something for everyone. With education and entertainment, this historical venue not only shows us what "then" was like here, it also presents fun events such as dinners, theatre shows, and games for children. Laugh and learn!

The latter has a working antique amusement park, with rides that are safe even for small children. Other attractions include a working full-scale locomotive thundering through the park, and on the nearby Glenmore Reservoir, a vintage double-decker stern wheeler ship... more
