It's not just about the coffee...
A generation has grown up in Hava Java, from being teen coffee fiends to parents with youngsters sharing massive Smartie cookies. Now I pop in there when I have the time for tea and some of the ridiculously good cheesecake. Staff are friendly and know what they're doing; prices are as good as any and better than some; and the place is kid-friendly as well! Yeah, it could use a good scrubbing and maybe paint job one of these days - but I get good service and don't feel like I have to watch where I put down my cup....
great atmosphere!
The atmosphere is so warm and friendly. There are a great variety of coffees to choose from and they are presented in an attractive way. There are not many teas, though, for us tea drinkers, but I still love to go there and sit in the window whilst reading the many varieties of weekly papers. The staff are all open and welcoming and friendly.

Mingle with the artsy folk and order some stellar coffee at Hava Java. Sometimes the service is a little snarky, but usually nothing but smiling baristas. Try the Sammys -- cheap, and definitely a full, delicious lunch! This place has free WiFi as well, and is a great place to bring your laptop to get some writing done. Sometimes it gets crowded, though.

This place is a must each time I'm in St. John's. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. On my roadtrip coast-to-coast this summer, this was the first place I trusted to get a good flavoured (hazelnut) soy latte since leaving the Pacific Northwest!
