Fred's has been the one-stop shop for music in St. John's for decades. Never mind your chain stores with uninformed, uninterested staff; Fred's staff will not only find that obscure album you're looking for, they'll recommend other music that you'll like even more! I've found out-of- print treasures in their used racks, and bought the latest favorites just in. With a huge inventory and helpful staff, they can get you all your favorite tunes: world, jazz, dance, blues, traditional, punk, ska, rock, metal, opera... if they can't get it, it can't be got! They carry CDs, DVDs, and vinyl, as well as the best selection of the wide-ranging genres of Newfoundland music.
I feel a little biased as I just about grew up at Fred's... it's like righting a review of my mom's cooking... but this is the one and only record store in the province and one of the best ones on the planet in my opinion. It's a pleasure just to be in there browsing, and they will help you find whatever you're looking for and usually turn you on to something amazing that you never heard of in... more
This is THE record store in St John's. If anyone says "The Record Store", they're referring to "Fred's". And considering that it has sparse competition, it's actually pretty decent.
