We purchased a new home from Epic Homes 3 years ago in Maple Ridge. The workmanship was terrible, the customer service was even worse. Unfortunately, we had never purchased a new home before and when they offered to have their lawyers handle the closing at no cost, we took them up on it. They didn't inform us that we could hold back up to 20% for deficiencies. Once they had our money it took several months to get the numerous deficiencies fixed, and when they were fixed, they were done by an unqualified incompetent employee.
We had a drainage problem in the yard from day one which they continued to make excuses for and put us off forever. Finally they agreed there was a problem, put down a little gravel and some big O, which was apparently crushed as soon as they covered it up, this did little or nothing to help. They told us to put down some sod and it would be great. We did this twice now and still have a swamp in one corner. When I contacted Ryan, the manager he told me my warrantee period had expired even though it's been an ongoing problem since day one. I also informed him that there was mold under the exterior wood trim due to shoddy workmanship when they failed to caulk the seams after the home settled. He then told me they were going to do nothing for us and learn to live with it as a homeowner. I have been a homeowner since 1979, and have never seen substandard construction like this in my life.
Please remember, if you ever end up in the unfortunate situation of having to deal with this comany, hold back as much money as you can and use your own lawyer for closing. It is well worth the money.
